Year 7 – Mrs Stonach

A huge welcome to all year 7 parents and students.

I have been really impressed with the positivity shown by the New Year 7 pupils this week. They have

risen to the challenge and made their teachers, parents and themselves proud. Their enthusiasm,

positivity and general excitement has been infectious and long may it continue!

This week we have been focussing on positivity and raising aspirations, keep your eyes peeled for a list of

‘form attendance of the week’, ‘form achievement of the week’ and ‘student of the week’. These will be awarded every Tuesday in our year assembly.

In order to maintain our high behaviour expectations, the year team will be awarding students in year 7

with impeccable behaviour each term, with a free trip or activity. The students will be thinking of ways to

raise money for this in form this week. I am a firm believer that good effort and good behaviour should be

rewarded regularly. We will also be holding stalls at the KESA family fun day (next week) so please come

and see us.

Our students have looked really smart this week and are wearing their new uniforms with pride. I am

aware that there were some problems with the uniform supplier, if your child is missing a piece of uniform,

please send them in with a note.

If your child is off school through illness, please ensure that they bring a note in with them on their return,

even if you have called in; we need the note for their file.

Finally, you should all be contacted in the next 2 weeks by your child’s tutor, they will introduce

themselves and will be your first point of contact should you have any queries or concerns.

I hope that all year 7’s have had a fantastic (but probably very tiring) week and I look forward to greeting them back in next week.

Welcome to Year 8 – Mrs Lees

I am excited to introduce myself as Head of Year 8 team this year, and I very much look forward to sharing

your student’s achievements and successes with you over the coming months. We have a promising year ahead of us with many positive opportunities to support our students in achieving their full potential.

As a year group we have made an outstanding start to the new academic year with 166 students

achieving 100% attendance in the first week, giving us an overall attendance of 94.3%. Students have

earned a huge total of 1067 achievement points.

Very well done to each and every student for their commitment to learning.

Year 10 – Mr Waring

Welcome to our first parent mail report for the new school year. I hope you and your families had an

awesome summer break, I know I certainly did, especially as the weather was so nice.

As your aware, we are now structured into year groups and I am ecstatically pleased to be working

alongside some amazing academic staff as we guide our wonderful year 10 students through, not only this

academic year but their Year 11 also. This structure allows us to get to know our students and their

families much better, so ensuring we give the best support and guidance possible.

The structure of the team includes, myself as Head of Year 10 and I can be contacted either via email at

[email protected] or on the telephone on school extension 239. Alongside the form

teachers, I look after the pastoral wellbeing of our students, monitor behaviour, attendance and uniform

standards amongst other things.

Our Year 10 Standards Leader is Dr Tadikonda who is responsible for ensuring that our students are

getting the best academic opportunities possible and for ensuring that interventions are in place for

students who are weak, or possibly need extra tuition in certain subjects. She can be contacted via email

at [email protected]

Then there are our amazing form tutors consisting of,

Form 10A Mr Spetch and Dr Tadikonda

Form 10D Mr Okinyemi

Form 10E Mrs Wilson and Miss Lewis

Form 10G Mr Thomas

Form 10H Mr Wheeler

Form 10K Mr Cook

Form 10N Ms Waterman

Form 10R Mrs Ward-Robinson

Form 10W Miss Price

Overall attendance for the year 10’s currently stands at 96%, the challenge is to keep this up for the whole

school year. Remember, at the very least students need to be getting 96%. However as these next 2

years are vitally important to your children, I would be hoping for closer to 99%.

Since being back, students had their photographs taken on Wednesday. We have our first assembly on

Friday, where I will be reiterating expectations of behaviour, uniform and punctuality.

In assembly we will be celebrating the fantastic news of how 18 of our year 10 students were successful in

passing their music exams recently, so well done to them.

It’s a well-known fact that positivity breaths positive results and good news is always nice to share

wherever and whenever we can. But I am also keen to share good news from out in the community, so if

you know or hear of positive news involving our year 10 students, please do share with me so the whole

team can congratulate the relevant students also please.

What is KES Academy Friends?

We are a group of parents and staff who all give our time on a voluntary basis to organise and run fund-

raising activities for those in our academy community.

Our parent and teacher association (PTA), King Edward VII (KES) Academy Friends, has charitable status

and raises significant funds for the academy. We also value voluntary help from parents who may want to

join academy trips; help with learning support, hear a child read, or even come in and talk about careers to

our older students.

Our aim is to use the funds we raise to provide ‘extras’ for the academy. The academy gives us a ‘wish list’ of items they feel would be of benefit. For example, recent purchases have included equipment for

ICT, music, technology, drama, art, PE and science departments.

During the last academic year we raised over £10,000 for the academy. This was through a series of

events including carboots, race night, ladies pamper night, school discos, quiz night, Christmas

Celebrations and bingos. If you have any new ideas we would love to hear from you!

If you would like to know more about ways that you could contribute contact us on 01553 77360 or email

[email protected]

Our next fundraising event is KES Family Fun Day, if you would like to come along, bring the family and

support that would be fantastic or if you would like to volunteer to help please email: Sarah-
