Multiple advertisements on the rolling stone website would lead you to believe that it is owned by a parent company.

BUT the tool bar from the website features no ‘about’ page which would be able to tell us whether or not it is owned by a parent company, as the about page would feature information like that. Wikipedia convinces us into

believing the magazine to be an independent magazine as it only mentions Jann Wenner, who has been the chief editor of the magazine since its first publishing, where as for SPIN magazine….

SPIN magazine is very convincing in its layout, as it doesn’t look like it is trying to advertise other subsidiary companies owned by a parent company, making it look more like an independent company than RollingStone magazine, but SPIN magazine turns out to actually be a subsidiary of a parent company
