PARDON GUIDELINESGET YOUR OWN COPY OF
YOUR CRIMINAL RECORD
Generally, any arrest or citation will show up onyour criminal record REGARDLESS OF WHAT
HAPPENED LATER IN COURT. This meansthat your records will show the arrest or citationeven if:
Your Case Was Dismissed;
You Were Acquitted (Found Not Guilty);
Probation Before Judgment Was Entered;
A Nolle Prosequi Was Entered; or
The Case was Placed on the Stet Docket.
If you were found GUILTY or paid a fine, that will be on your record as a CONVICTION.
You can get a copy of your record through theDEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY, it willcost you $38. You must apply in person at anytime
between 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. at:

CASH IS NOT ACCEPTED — Only money orders,certified checks or personal checks made payableto CJIS-Central Repository.
In many cases, if you were not convicted of acrime, you may be able to expunge the charge fromyour criminal record. If you were convicted of cer-tain crimes, that is, crimes not included in a speciallist of nuisance crimes, you must obtain a pardonfrom the governor before you request anexpungement.
To be eligible for a pardon:
You must not be currently incarcerated or on probation.
If you were convicted of a MISDEMEANOR not in-cluded in the nuisance list, you must have been crimefree for 5 years from the date of your sentence, release
from incarceration or release from parole or probation,whichever occurred last.
If you were convicted of a FELONY, you must have been crime free for at least 10 years from the date of sentence, release from incarceration or release from pa-role or probation, whichever occurred last. However,the Parole Commission may, at its discretion and in spe-cific instances, consider cases in which only 7 yearshave elapsed.
If you were convicted of a FELONY CRIME of VIO-
LENCE or CONTROLLED DANGEROUS SUB-STANCE FELONY, you must have been crime freefor at least 20 years from the date of sentence, release
__Complete each section of the application. __Sign & notarize the Certification, Authorization, andAcknowledgement.
__Attach the following:
1.Three (3) completed character reference letters(page 20, 21, and 22 of the application).
2. Copy of the photo identification or your driver’slicense.
3. Copy of your birth certificate.
4. For each jurisdiction in which you held a driver’slicense at any time, a certified copy of your entire
driving history from the Motor Vehicle Authority.

Crimes of violence are: Abduction, Arson,Kidnapping, Manslaughter, Mayhem, Murder,Rape, Robbery, Sexual Offense in first or second
Degree, Use of Handgun in the Commission of aFelony, Assault with intent to Murder, Assault withintent to Rape.
You must submit a certified copy of the docketentries for any crime which resulted in a convictionin the State of Maryland. Certified copies can beobtained from the Clerk of the Court where thesentencing occurred or at the Maryland StateArchives in Annapolis, Maryland.
5. For all felony and misdemeanor convictions, andall traffic convictions, which involved drugs or alcohol, a certified copy of the judgments and
sentence in each case.
6. Copy of any high school, college, trainingschool, and/or university diplomas (s).
7. If you served in the military, a copy of your separation papers. (form DD-214).
8. If you were convicted of an offense bycourts-martial, with respect to each conviction, acopy of the courts-martial promulgating order.
