Shabbat Begins at 5.53 pm Shabbat Ends at 6.52 pm Parashat Lech Lecha - 16 October 2021 - 10 Cheshvan 5782 Shabbat Attendees - Testing We respectfully ask that all who attend shul on Friday evening or Shabbat to take a lateral flow test on Friday. Regardless of the test result, if you feel unwell or otherwise consider it possible that you may have Coronavirus, please do not attend shul. If your lateral flow test is positive, you should self-isolate and follow government guidelines: https://tinyurl.com/39bh7xd6 Face Masks The wearing of face masks is voluntary whilst either seated or moving around the Synagogue. Seating shall continue to be divided into areas of social distancing and non-social distancing. Socially distanced seating It is your choice whether to wear a face mask or not in socially distanced seating. We ask that you respect your fellow congregants by leaving space between you and other people, whether wearing a face mask or not. Thought for the Week by Judge Shlomo Kreiman Just imagine………. Our patriarch Abraham had no problem in answering the challenge in much the same way as he responded to the numerous other tests he was called on to engage. His life was that of a man with a mission, to open the eyes of the nations to the existence of monotheism. This individual cast a huge and continuing personal image over the pages of Jewish history. Not only was his dedication to the word of G-d total and unlimited but he had no fear of being in a public minority. Living as we do in a world which seems to have made startling scientific and other advances since Abraham’s time, what we cannot afford to forget is the simplicity of the example shown by his unshakeable faith. None of us are expected to step up to the plate to the same extent but within our daily existence there are continuous demands as members of the Jewish world which require our active response. We too are called upon to internalize the concept of “Go, for yourself” in the outside world, with all its alien influences. Avoiding the ever- present attractions which seek to divert us, we can also show how we adopt the lead offered by our Patriarch. As the daylight starts to shorten at this time of the year and the night hours increase, each of us has a personal opportunity to follow the lead of Abraham and diffuse darkness with the inner glow of spiritual achievement. Special Notice ***Look out for the “Shabbat Project” event taking place on 22 nd October. See details below.*** Sermon The sermon today will be given by His Honour Judge Michael Simon. Mazal Tov To Deanna and Charles Ansell on their Diamond Wedding Anniversary. To Denise and Ronald Waxman on their Golden Wedding Anniversary. The Honorary Officers and Synagogue Council are delighted to invite the congregation to Kiddush following the service. The whisky is kindly sponsored by the Balsam family. Whilst all food at kiddush is nut free we cannot guarantee that it has been prepared in a nut free facility. We wish all our members Shabbat Shalom and good health in these troubling times.

Face Masks The wearing of face masks is voluntary whilst either seated or moving around the Synagogue.

Seating shall continue to be divided into areas of social distancing and non-social distancing.

Socially distanced seating It is your choice whether to wear a face mask or not in socially distanced seating. We ask that you respect your

fellow congregants by leaving space between you and other people, whether wearing a face mask or not.

Thought for the Week by Judge Shlomo Kreiman Just imagine………. There you are, aged 75, comfortably ensconced in your retirement, when a Divine instruction

arrives to “up sticks”, leave all that is familiar and move on to an unknown destination. It would be difficult not to

evince a hostile reaction. We may look with surprise at someone who readily embraced such unusual

circumstances.

Our patriarch Abraham had no problem in answering the challenge in much the same way as he responded to the

numerous other tests he was called on to engage. His life was that of a man with a mission, to open the eyes of

the nations to the existence of monotheism.

This individual cast a huge and continuing personal image over the pages of Jewish history. Not only was his

dedication to the word of G-d total and unlimited but he had no fear of being in a public minority. Living as we do

in a world which seems to have made startling scientific and other advances since Abraham’s time, what we cannot

afford to forget is the simplicity of the example shown by his unshakeable faith.

None of us are expected to step up to the plate to the same extent but within our daily existence there are

continuous demands as members of the Jewish world which require our active response. We too are called upon

to internalize the concept of “Go, for yourself” in the outside world, with all its alien influences. Avoiding the ever-

present attractions which seek to divert us, we can also show how we adopt the lead offered by our Patriarch. As

the daylight starts to shorten at this time of the year and the night hours increase, each of us has a personal

opportunity to follow the lead of Abraham and diffuse darkness with the inner glow of spiritual achievement.

Special Notice ***Look out for the “Shabbat Project” event taking place on 22nd October. See details below.***

Sermon The sermon today will be given by His Honour Judge Michael Simon.

Mazal Tov

To Deanna and Charles Ansell on their Diamond Wedding Anniversary.
