The giant wild dog.

1. A long time ago t h e r e p i v e d a young girl with her blind father.

Her mother had been killed and eaten by a wild dog.

2. There was water in thij hills nearby and all the women used to

go for water with t h e y water carrie d . They would go and get

water and bring it back for their families.

3. One day the women went out a long way for sand goanna. They

went to the sand hills and got lots of sand goannas then b r o u g h t them back.

4. They gave out their meat (?) . The young girl gave her

blind father two sand goanna to cook in the fire. He was sitting

in the shade, out of the hot sun.c

5. Another day they went out again for goanna meat. The women

went a long way and finally found? killed and brought back lots

of goanna m e a t .

6. The men would go out hunting kangaroos while other people

would stay behind looking after the children. In the evening

the people would come back with their meat.

7. At night the people would sleep by the fire. They didn't

know about that giant wild dog that killed and ate people. That

wild dog had eaten other people.

8. One night the wild dog came to the water hole that the people

gathered their water from. In the morning a child got up and

went to get some water. He came a long way from t h e c a m p to

get the water because he was thirsty. Then he saw the wild dogs

footprints and became very frightened.

9. That child saw t h e footprints going towards a cave. He gathered

the water and ran back to the camp. Running in, he told all the

people that he'd seen giant dog footprints at their water hole.10. Some old men told the other men to dig a big hole in the

camp. They dug a big hole and said to the old men "We've finished digging." The old men said to them, "Chopdown lots of logs and

bring them here." They chopped down lots of logs and brought themto the camp and said. “Old men, This is what we've brought back."

11. The old men said, Chop up and sharpen those logs with stone

axes." And they really sharpened them. Then the old man said, "Go

and g et lots of leaves and branches". So they went and got lots

of leaves and branches and put the sharp logs in the hole and

covered it up with the| leaves and branches. That night they lit

a big fire and sat up all night.12. In the morning the blind old man told all the people to come

and sit down and listen to what he had to tell them. He told one

man to cook some meat on the fire and make a lot of smoke that the*

wild dog would smell and come after, in order to eat. The

wild dog smelt it and started coming

13. The men, women and children were frightened and began crying

when they saw the giant dog comming. The old man said to them,

"Don't cry." That wild dog came running towards them with saliva

dripping from his mouth ready to eat them. But as he came he fell

into the big hole they had dug.

14. All the sharp logs in the hole speared him. The people

quickly made a big fire and cooked the giant wild dog, to make sure they killed him. Then the old man said to the people that they should all.g o a n d m a k e a n o t h e r camp.

Then they lived happily ever after......
