INTRODUCING.... Anne Marie Spice, Iho Tātai Pūtea (General Manager Finance & Shared Services) Since joining the Accounts team in January, based at the Whenua Hoko Holdings office in Westgate, Anne Marie has been dedicated to enabling greater transparency and accountability in her mahi for Ngā Maunga Whakahii o Kaipara Development Trust. Anne Marie is a Chartered Accountant who has previously worked in the Helensville community in the Helensville District Health Trust. Alongside the organisation she wants to ensure the wellbeing of whanau and growth for future generations through fiscal repsonsibility. She enjoys spending quality time in the ngahere and with her whānau. NGAHERE LTD PÃNUI The Rescue Run returns to Te Ngahere o Woodhill on Saturday 8 September 2018. Competitors are timed across a 15km high intensity obstacle course with points awarded for a variety of team challenges. Obstacle disaster zones are insane; designed by disaster relief & emergency service profes- sionals including Civil Defence, Land Search & Res- cue Auckland, St John, Surf Life Saving Northern Re- gion, CoastGuard Northern Region, Northland Emer- gency Services Trust, and more, they will each simu- late real-world rescue scenarios. The 2018 event is proudly sponsored by Cisco and has expanded to include 5 life saving emergency ser- vices - St John, Coastguard, Fire and Emergency NZ, Land SAR, and Surf Lifesaving Northern Region; as well as the Secondary School Division (in associa- tion with Datacom) that is supporting Youthline. Ngā Maunga Whakahii o Kaipara Development Trust to proud to enter a team into this years event. The team will be led by Te Ngahere o Woodhill Tumuaki, Malcolm Paterson. Team members include kaimahi and Board members from across the organisation. Part of the challenge is for the team to raise funds in support of a nominated charity. Hopefully as members you are aware that the Development Trust Board is a group of 9 elected trustees; 1 from each of the 5 Marae elected to represent the voice and needs of members within the Marae context. 3 representatives chosen as the general voice of all mem- bers—regardless of their marae affiliation; and 1 kaumatua to provide leadership, expertise and guidance to the Board on matters of tikanga. The Ngāti Whatua o Kaipara Claims Settlement Act 2013 lays out the assets that were returned which the Board are responsi- ble for caring for, managing and growing for and on behalf of all of the members now and in the future. The Board have (1) Ngā Maunga Whakahii o Kaipara Develop- ment Trust, (2) Ngā Maunga Whakahii o Kaipara Tari Pupurita- onga Trust and (3) Whiti Ora o Kaipara Charitable Trust Deeds that lay out the specific details of how the Board will operate, how certain things will be administered and the paramount ob- jectives/purpose of the organisational groups. From those overarching documents—a long term Ngāti Whātua o Kaipara Rautaki 20172050 (Strategic Plan) has been devel- oped from which our mid term (5 year) and short term (annual) operational plans are determined. In short—the Board set the overall direction / goals. The Senior Operational Team (Managers) are employed to make decisions on what activities to focus on each year to achieve those out- comes. Our other kaimahi are employed to carry out and com- plete that mahi. The structure might sometimes feel confusing—if you feel this way the kaimahi working within the Development Trust, Whiti Ora o Kaipara, Ngahere and Whenua Hoko holdings invite you to contact us to kōrero about our mahi. TURANGA KAUMĀTUA

For our taonga kaumātua we have created a space

at Māranga Mai , 1 Rata St, Te Awaroa

Thursdays, 10am to 12pm, lunch provided

Whakahoahoa, Whanaungatanga, Whanau Ora,

Korero, Wananga, Hui. There is a monthly theme

chosen by the roopu with an end of month activity.

All kaumātua welcome. We have a kaumatua page

Pursuant to the Deed of Trust of Ngā Maun-

ga Whakahii Development Trust , Marae

Trustees must report to the hāpu of their

marae regarding the operations of the De-

velopment Trust not less than four times per

calendar year.

This update hui is convened to meet that

obligation. All members are welcome to at-

tend, regardless of their affiliation with the

Marae that the hui is scheduled to lead the

hui. The Development Trust will provide an

update of the current activities of the opera-

tional subsidiaries of the organisation.

Maunga Whakahii Trust Board and can

make recommendations that are formulated

from this hui.

MATARIKI DAWN 2018

The first of our Whiti Ora o Kapaipara Ma-

tariki events was held on the evening of Fri-

day 6 July 2018.

Tena koutou to our 80 whanau members

who came to Matariki Dawn , an Auckland

Stardome production that looks at the cultur-

al and astronomical aspects of Matariki.

From the comfort of reclined seats in the

360-degree theatre dome, whanau received

an educational presentation to look at the

Maori names of the seven visible stars and

korero on why we see Matariki at certain

times of the year and why the lunar calendar

is important .
