AOTEAROA BIKE CHALLENGE
1-29 February 2020www.lovetoride.net/auckland
The Aotearoa Bike Challenge & Variety’s Bikes for Kids programme
Your chance to make a difference and share the love to ride!
Here’s everything you need to know about fundraising for Variety - the Children’s Charity, at the Aotearoa Bike Challenge 2020.
1
Variety & the Bikes for Kids programmeVariety – the Children’s Charity gives disadvantaged Kiwi kids the childhood they deserve and the opportunity to reach their full potential through various programmes, including Bikes for Kids.
For many New Zealand children, learning to ride a bike is a rite of passage. However, for the 1 in 4 Kiwi kids that live in poverty, having a bike to call their own, is just a dream.
Variety’s Bikes for Kids programme provides disadvantaged Kiwi kids with the opportunity to have their own bike and be just like all the other kids. Each year, Variety presents brand new bikes and helmets to children at low decile schools allowing them to experience the freedom and independence that comes with owning a bike.
Individual children are nominated by their teachers, in recognition of being role models within their school and community, for having overcome adversity or just for being great kids who are missing out.

Help us provide bikes to Kiwi kids in need!
Fundraise through the Aotearoa Bike Challenge, and every $250 raised will present a disadvantaged child with their very own brand new bike and helmet!
Those who meet this fundraising target will be invited to the bike presentation and be involved with presenting some very deserving Kiwi kids with their very own bike and helmet. 1
1 You will be notified of time and location of your presentation at least 2 weeks
prior to the event. This will be based in Auckland. Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate specific date, time and location requests.
Just some of the many benefits of a bike:
Allows children to develop a love to ride they would otherwise miss out on
Provides disadvantaged children the same opportunities as their peers
Creates lifelong memories and makes a lasting, ongoing impact
Helps build confidence, independence and self-esteem
Delivers health and wellbeing outcomes
Encourages children to use a bike for basic transportation
Leads to children and extended family biking more often

Here’s a few tips and tricks to help you with your fundraising:
Personalise your page as much as possible - include photos and videos, and explain in your own words why you’re fundraising for Variety’s Bikes for Kids
Challenge your colleagues to get involved! Here’s some great ideas to motivate your workplace staff:
• Inter-office challenges – how many bikes can each department raise?
• Organise a shared lunch for those taking part
• Special drinks for those taking part at Friday staff drinks
• Organise an easily accessible bike storage or parking area at the office
• Have weekly challenges – who can raise the most each week?
Set a target goal and watch your tracker go up as you collect donations – this helps keep interest levels up
Try to get a few high value donations first - subsequent donors are then motivated to give you more
Fundraising Tips & Tricks
Email, email, email! Although sharing your page on Facebook is great, sending an email with a link is even better
Ask more than once – people need reminding, and remember, the more times you ask, the more donations you will receive!
Sometimes people feel uncomfortable asking for money, but remember you are asking on behalf of a child who needs a bike.
Aim high and set a big target - $1000 will provide 4 bikes, $3000 will provide 12 bikes and $5000 will provide 20 bikes! – how many children do you want to give the opportunity to ride?
