HOW TO READ THE HANDS

The palmist should sit directly opposite the subject andin good light; and, I would advise that no third person shoulddistract the attention of either.

First of all see what the particular type the hand belongsto. Notice the length of the fingers in proportion to the palm.Examine first the left hand and then the right, making thelatter the basis of your reading. Examine every part of thehand, color, skin, nails, texture, front and back, beforespeaking.

Next notice the thumb, whether it is long or short, suppleor firm. Next, see the palm, whether it is dry, moist, hard, soft or flabby.

Next, look at the mounts, observing what onespredominate, then proceed with the lines, beginning with thelife line.

Always tell the general characteristics before touchingupon coming events.

Make no predictions before examining carefully the lineson both hands to see that they coincide.

Be very frank and sympathetic with your subject. Theymay be very skeptical and sometimes rude, but that must notaffect you. Remember that any person or thing that annoysyou, rules you and has power over you and weakens theinterest you take in the subject before you, and the adaptedgood manners are the more successful and popular which youshould use to hold the keys of the mysteries of life, the secretand eventful future of the person before you.

Be careful you do not give a misleading accuracy.

FIRST LESSONThe Mounts of the Hand

This hand is to explain the mounts, and eachlesson must be referred to this hand until you getin your mind the map of the hand and its lines, toknow the position they occupy.

Will, reason and logic are found in the thumb, the more one can bend the thumb back, the morewill power they have.

Venus is below the thumb; the higher thismount, the more passionate one is. Jupiter is next;the higher this mount the more one will stand upfor his rights. Saturn is next, and the higher thismount, means the person is scientific and will behappy; if many lines cross together it meansmisfortune.

Apollo or the Sun, next, means talent andglory; if crossed by lines, failures. Mercury, next;if this mount be high means a change of fortune.

Mars, next, on the percussion, means self-controlled temper. Moon, next, this mount meanspresentiments and mental trouble; there is foundthe suicide mark.

When the mounts lean toward one another thequalities of each are blended and developed inunison.

LESSON 1

Lesson 2: This hand is hard to explain the fate line;when this party first started out in life he started in oppositionto his wishes as you will notice by the line starting from thelife line and turning toward the mount of Luna (Moon) up tothe twenty-seventh year when there came a loss into his lifeand then he started into another line.

At forty-seven he had several outside affairs in his lifethrough which he gained.

The heart line shows where he had one attachment in hislife that went out and where there will be two others. Onewill pass out through financial reasons. The head line is finewhich will be of great help to him, showing him to be onewho always wants both sides to every question, and greatmentality and brain power.

Lesson 3: This hand has some very peculiar lines and thefate line going right straight up to the mount of Saturn fromthe wrist shows where there will never be but one interest inlife to the party - in a business way.

He has married three times and his first marriage was ofvery short duration and passed out very suddenly. Theabsence of the head line and the wavery condition of the fateline would indicate him to be of a weak character were it notfor his firm thumb. The line crossing from the mount ofVenus ending with a star shows an accident to one of thefamily, but it did not end in death. His vitality lines are goodand shows where he lives on his vitality and will power morethan on his physical strength.

Lesson 4: The life line with the cross and branching inthe manner it does, indicates trouble to the subject's parents,in both illness and financially through the influence of otherpeople. The line going from the mount of Venus crossingthrough the fate and fortune line shows the influence of arelative in the life who has money and who will help him atfirst, but as you see the lines cross the drink lines, gamblingand so forth, showing the line to leave his life, and where hewill have to work for himself, but without much success untilhe passed his fiftieth year.

Lesson 5: This is to show the peculiar heart and headline, a most peculiar double head line, with the cross linesmaking a decided ladder in both (this is the hand of aminister.) He was of a very melancholy tendency, but thedouble line saved him, as you see the two head lines arejoined by branches going up, and lines going up are alwaysgood; it shows where he gained and was able to climb theladder to success.

The lines going down on the heart line in this hand aregood, as he combined both his heart and judgment in alldecisions and would not let his heart get the best of him.

The branch on the head line toward the Rascette, showswhere he had commercial interests in his life, as well as theprofessional lines. He will die very suddenly at the age of 73years. He also shows a very firm thumb which will be ofgreat help.

Lesson 6: This hand shows a peculiar fate line, one thatup to the twenty-eighth year will be in one groove, then, fromthen on, his life will have many and swift changes, but verygood ones He will always be governed by his head ratherthan his heart, for his heart line is very poor, although as yousee he will marry twice, will raise two children and lose one.At his thirty-fifth year he will go through a very severeillness and if it was not for his vitality line having started inseveral years before he would have passed out.

Lesson 7: The lines of this hand are very poor, ft showsthe person to ruin their own life by being of such a fickletendency, one who will always be in trouble themselves andkeep others there too.

The head line is of no help whatever as it is very weakup to the forty-eighth year, when he or she will realize thattheir life has been wasted and their mind affected.

The star on the finger of Jupiter shows where they couldhave gained great glory had they lived differently, and yet thestar at the commencement of the life line shows it to be aninheritance, and one not easily overcome as there are toomany stars and crosses where they are not good.

The girdle of Venus is a drawback also, with the triangle,as it shows unhappiness.

The square on the life line indicates where an illness wasovercome, or will be overcome according to the age—at theforty-first year.

Lesson 8: This shows a very peculiar fate line startingfrom the life line, with two distinct branches showing theparty on first going into business for himself had threedecided things in view, the main line going to the mount ofApollo shows where you could gain, through the professionalfield, the second one going to the Mars mount, meaningsuccess through army life and the third toward Jupiter meanssuccess in the commercial or mercantile line.

Now the position that the fate line takes, and with thebranch on the line indicates where he gained through thecommercial and also the professional line— being a lawyer, the fork on the fate line bringing two sources of revenue intothe life.

Lesson 9: This is to show where the double head linesaves the whole hand, as there is no fate line whatever, butthe head in connection with the triangle and the good heartline is very beneficial (this is a banker’s hand.)

His marriage line with the star at the end of it showswhere he gained through his marriage.

The star on the mount of Saturn, or rather betweenSaturn and Jupiter, means a loss by fire which he sustained.

The star on the travel line on the percussion indicates aloss through a journey.

As is shown by the cross on the mount of Venus showswhere he will never have but one love affair in his life.

Lesson 10: This shows the hand of a man who wentthrough life with but one strong ambition, but throughtrusting other people so much he was always losing. In thefirst place he did not have the advantages when he started outas his environments and circumstances were against him. Hewas tied down by family ties, and when he did start he washandicapped by the influence of others. Yet you can see hehad a fine head line, but he has no confidence in himself.Notice his heart line with the twisted branch, showing anattachment which went out of his life and came back inagain. The two islands that you will find on the mount ofVenus indicate surgical operations to some member of thefamily, and the second one, with the cross, ended in death.

Lesson 11: This is to show the double fate line, thesmaller one of the two having a decided half circle joined toit, with a star on the line; a good speculator’s hand, one whocan afford to take good chances and risks; it also showswhere he is a good inventor, but a man who has let otherpeople benefit by him too much. The heart line shows twoattachments in his life, but both pass out and he will nevermarry. The line coming from the life line, crossing throughthe double fate, with the crosses on it, indicates an influencewhich came into his life at his forty-sixth year and throughwhich he lost money. His life line branching toward therascette shows where he will never die in the same country hewas born in.

Lesson 12: This is the type of a very deceitful personand one who will both lie and steal, as you will see by thecross and square on the finger of Mercury, the low droopinghead-line and the branch of the fate line going toward therascette.

The fortune line is good, but with the square and cross itshows where the money they have in this world is gainedthrough false means

The position the head line occupies to the life lineindicates where he has good confidence in himself.

Lesson 13: These are the only lines in the hand (and youwill find many such). A very poor fate line, no head line, buta very good heart line, showing where the party is ruledexclusively through the affections and not through the head atall.

The fate fine indicates where the subject will never makeany success in life at all, as the material world predominatesas you can see by the mount of Venus.

He will marry twice, but never raise any children, asshown by the marriage lines on the Mount of Mercury. Theconjunction of the line of fate, and on Mount of Luna, thesquare, again show the poor conditions of the fate line. Thecircle on the Mount of Jupiter tells against the success of thesubject.

Lesson 14: This shows where the party started out in lifeall right, but at his 18th or 19th year the influence of relativescame into his life which was not good for him, as for a periodof ten years he had most terrible ups and downs in the natureof losses, deaths and so forth; but at about 27 he again startedout for himself and was successful.

The square on the mount of Luna is a preservation froman accident, but to some member of the family, not to theman himself. His ambitions as you will see by his heart lineare very great, and he will be successful in later years ingratifying them.

Lesson 15: This shows a very peculiar life line; from thesubject’s forty-third year to his sixty-fifth year he was anInvalid and at the age of sixty-nine he committed suicide; thelines Joining the head and life line show it to be an inheritedtendency, Instead of a cultivated line.

His heart line is a protection in a very small way, though,as you will see.

Lesson 16: This is to show the fate line, but through bothbranches going toward mount Jupiter he will be successful;through the combined interest of friends and relatives he willcome out all right. His head line is very wavery but he willeventually make the right choice. If this man lived to be athousand years old he would not be constant to any onelove—very, very fickle indeed, and yet never any troublethrough it at all.

The start in life, as to the fate starting from the rascetteshows where he tried to make a start for himself, but therewas too much against him.

Lesson 17: This is the hand of a person who had as gooda figure and as healthy an appearance as any one couldpossibly have, yet it shows where he passes out verysuddenly at the age of about thirty-eight, and through anaccident, a railroad accident it was. He was most happilymarried and had four children.

You will find many such hands indicating either asudden or violent death.

He has done much traveling in his fife as you can see.

Lesson 18: This shows the peculiar located lines—forinstance the head line with a branch not joined—but since itdoes not end with a branch it is good but indicates twointerests in life, and where he will be very successful as hehas two crosses on the mount of Jupiter. He is one who willalways want everything proven up to him as he goes along, but he is a man who should cultivate his mentality and hisbrain power more than he does as it is his best. His fate lineshows where he started out in life in his own interests, buthad to have the help of others before he was twenty-fouryears old. The girdle of Venus shows where he will have avery unhappy attachment in his life, but from the other linesit is best that the attachment went out of his life.

Lesson 19: This is to show the medical lines, not onlyas a physician, but as a surgeon, as you will see the doubleline, joined at the mount of mercury. The head and heart linecould not be better and with the mystical cross you showwhere you always go according to your intuitions and youwill always come out best by doing so. The fate line is asgood as any one could have, but through the one interest inlife never mixing two or more things, although later in lifethere will be another interest come into your life which willcome out all right on account of your using your ownjudgment, and not following the advice of other people. Thesun, or fortune line—is fine—shows the success bound tocome.

Lesson 20: This is the hand of a very impressionableperson, one who takes on the impressions and emotions oftheir friends, and also of a nervous restless tendency, onewho lives more on their vitality and will power than on theirphysical strength. Notice the head line—it is one of amelancholy nature.

The heart line shows a flirty, fickle nature up to thetwenty-eighth year, when there would be one come into thelife to whom they would be true, and according to the star onthe mount of Apollo and Jupiter be very happy andsuccessful, and the line going up the same mount from theheart line, shows it to be a professional man. Through thatlove the ambitions will be gratified, and one of the mainambitions is to travel, which will be as much by water as byland.

Lesson 21: This is the hand of a genuine Occult person, and any one with this hand will be the most successful of allin any thing pertaining to the occult or mystical, such asPalmistry, Hypnotism, Astrology and so forth. You willnotice the line of intuition, and the length of the little finger,as they are very marked and in fact very pronounced, also themystic cross, between the head and heart line.

Then look and see if the party has the puffs on thefinger tips; if so, there is no height in the occult they couldnot reach, with perseverance. The square on the head lineshows an accident to the head later in life, but it will notprove fatal. The fate line shows two sources of revenue in thelife.

Lesson 22: This is to show the peculiar markings of thishand, the heart, head, and life line with the mark on themount Saturn which means a loss by fire and yet theprotection where no lives were lost. The fate line starting as itdoes from the life line with a cross indicates where the partystarted out in life through a great difficulty and yet had someone come into the life that would make them trouble throughjealousy and envy, the triangle on the fate line indicateswhere the subject very nearly lost his life, but through hisown diplomacy was saved.

Lesson 23: This fate line is one of the most peculiarWE have ever seen, it shows where there is much jealousy ina business way, yet with all that, there are three sources ofrevenue in the life, the head line is what has saved this partyfrom the losses. The most peculiar line or the oddest line inthis hand is the attachment, or marriage lines which you willnotice to be very odd and especially the first one showingwhere the man married for social and financial reasons, butwhere the line goes out of the life, he will marry three times.Having a good rascette is one of the good features of thehand.

Lesson 24: This is the hand of another peculiar fateline, indicating where the party will have many ups anddowns in their life for a period of twenty years, when thingsbrighten up for him and through the death of a relative hewill be able to gain his desires and ambitions in life, and hismain ambitions in life is to be in public life and he will bevery successful there as he is one who has the power of ruleand control over others, and after he has passed his 40th yearhe will have two interests in life in a financial way. Yet itshows where both will be successful, and where he will gainbut both lead to the public life.

Lesson 25: This man has a good head line yet he showswhere some member of the family had committed suicide andit depressed the subject very much, causing many illnessesalong the line, but from mental worry, having a good fate linewas his only redeeming point. The heart line was very goodbut the party never married on account of the suicide whichhad been, and as you will notice it is in the left or inheritancehand so that the subject need never be afraid of insanity orsuicide either.

Lesson 26: This hand shows the peculiarity of the headand fate line being the same, or very similar and where thetwo lines blend, showing that when the party starts into anything new he, or she will never start in without finding out allthey possibly can before doing so, a woman with that handwill make a fine housekeeper wantin2’ everything just so. Ina business deal wanting full particulars, details and so fortheven to the minutest details.

Yet in later life it shows where there will be twodistinct sources of revenue in the life and coming through thebrain and mentality more than through manual labor. Theheart line is not good, for a period of several years, and yet itdoes not show a fickle tendency at all; but more a weaknessof the heart functions.

Lesson 27: The odd markings in this hand we haveverified in many hands, in the first place notice the cross onthe mount of Venus, it indicates where there was some one inthe home life that the subject did not get along with as theyshould have done, yet it does not always mean an enemy line.

The circle on the life line indicates a death to somemember of the family but not to the subject themselves. There is no fate line; the peculiar curve you see instead of thefate line is the most peculiar I have ever seen, yet we havefound it several times, and always the same; a person havingmany changes in life, accidents, losses, blindness and soforth, yet is never downed. An accident by water, to himselfalone, is indicated by the star in the head line and the crossbetween the mounts of Luna and Mars.

Lesson 28: This is the hand of one of the brightestwomen I ever met, and yet she has no other lines in her righthand; she is a woman in public life and a woman who isalways governed by her head more than by the affections, nomatter what she might think of a person, she would never letit stand in the way of her promotion in any manner whatever. She has no heart line but two girdles of Venus which areseldom ever found on any hand. It shows a person whoshould develop their talents and let love alone as they willnever find their ideal in love no matter how long they maysearch. The ending of the head line simply shows thedifferent interests in life in a public way.

Lesson 29: This is the hand of a man who went throughone accident right after another until he had gone throughfour. Then his life was much more successful than everbefore. His life will end with stomach trouble and he will dievery suddenly when he does go. He has not the confidence inhimself that he should have and it makes him changeable andwavery. A very good heart line with one marriage. He willnever have any luck as he is handicapped from birth in everyway possible.

Lesson 30: Both head and fate lines of this hand arevery odd. The fate line shows where the subject started out inlife with the very best in the land and had several sources ofrevenue in his life, but at his twenty-eighth year an influencecame into his life as the line from the life line crossing up tothe mount of Mercury shows, and for a period of twentyyears he will be under that person’s influence, when again hewill break away and go for himself and as the line to themount of Apollo is the strongest, it shows where he will gointo a professional line and be successful.

Lesson 31: This is to show the lines of social ostracism, the island on the mount of Jupiter indicates that, but with thesquare under it, it shows where later in life he will be able toreinstate himself and even gain more social distinctions. Theisland on the mount of Saturn indicates a great danger thatthe subject will pass through, and from the position of theheart line it will not be very favorable either. The head linesin connection with the other lines shows a change cominglate in life which will be very good, but after the subject hasgained more confidence in himself.

Lesson 32: This hand is to show the heart Line in thisstate; it shows where there are three attachments in the lifeand where there will be financial reasons which willintercede in one and the love of another coming into the lifewhich will change the whole course of the subject’s life. Asyou will see by the mount of Venus he is of a verypassionate, loving, affectionate nature, one who likes to beloved and petted a great deal. His head rules always, nomatter what the circumstance, and he is one who alwayswants both sides to every question, as indicated by the mysticcross under the heart line.

Lesson 33: This shows the hand of a person, no matterwhat they may do they will always be in trouble as they havenot the confidence in themselves they should have and theirdrink lines are very prominent, their affection lines do notamount to much as they would never be true to any one, andthe very next person that comes along has just as much powerover them as the one who just left their life. Mentally they arenot very bright. There was an accident by water which shouldhave ended by death but it did not, but may later, as he showsmany water travels, as indicated by the cross in the square onthe mount of Mars.

Lesson 34: This hand is to show the head line and alsothe heart line, the heart line as it is indicates very strongattachments which will be in the life, but there will never bebut one marriage. The head line is the very worst I have everseen, not only troubles with the head but also with the eyes, and several severe illnesses along the line, but all inconnection with the head or eyes. When you see a hand likethat is very poor, and not to be depended upon in any mannerwhatever, even the star markings do not change much theunfortunate influence. The circle also indicates misfortunemaking the subject go round and round in a circle withoutbeing able to break through and get free.

Lesson 35: This hand shows the heart line to be in avery odd condition; it shows a person in the life and wherethey go out of the life and come back into it three times.

The head line is very good and lends strength to thecharacter, which the heart line lacks. There will be threejourneys and one accident by water, as indicated by the crosson the mount of Luna. This party has a very high mount ofambition on Jupiter and through the influence of two otherpeople (as you will see by the lines from the life line) he willbe able to gratify his ambition. His rascette is good whichshows he will live to be very old and have health, wealth andhappiness.

Lesson 36: The lines of this hand are all peculiar andyet lines which you will find every day. Take first the lifeline ; it shows where there are sister lines and also vitalitylines and when the two are combined it indicates anexceptional long life. The fate line is very much against theparty so far as success goes, a loss at his twenty-ninth year, then another loss, but through the influence of other people. The heart line shows where he had two attachments in his lifeat one time and where there was trouble through it, asindicated by the two half circles under Saturn and Apollowith the branch lines on the fortune—Apollo—line, and thesquare with the dot in it, always indicating trouble.

Lesson 37: This hand is to show the marked fate linewith the decided turn it takes about the center of the hand;then the branch on the head line starting from the life linegoing straight to the Apollo mount. The fate line showsstarting in life under difficulties and very young, then at theage of eighteen where there was another interest came intothe life and from which he had money through two differentsources, then a loss came a few years later, then anotherchange, a new enterprise which was good and where he wason his way to make his fortune when another loss came andall of the changes came through himself, not through others, then at twenty-seven he took a change entirely out of thegroove he was in and his fate line turns right up to theambition mount, and the branch of the head line goes to themount of Apollo, combining success, ambition, and publiclife, it is a fine hand in every respect and a successful oneafter the thirtieth year of his life.

Lesson 38: This is the hand to explain the position ofthese markings on the fate line and the island on the mount ofJupiter, which means social distinction gained through theirown merit and talent and not through the help of any oneelse. Their talent is in the literary line, as indicated by thestars on the mounts of Mercury and also on Apollo. The starin the center of the hand with no connecting lines is only anindication of a threatened danger to self. The island at thecommencement of the life line shows a mystery at birth, butsince it is not at the other end of the life line it shows wherethe subject may never know it.

Lesson 39: The fate line in this hand shows where theparty started out in life with two distinct interests but wherethrough an illness one interest went out of the life at thetwenty-sixth year, leaving but one interest, and from then ona good many changes and ups and downs were in his life andthen he shows the success after his forty. third year. At theage of forty-five there was some great trouble in his life as tothe affections which causes him to be very changeable andwavery, shown by the horizontal line going over to the mountof Venus crossing the square on the line of life, a sign ofpreservation showing that the subject was protected at thatparticular time.

Lesson 40: This hand shows by the fate line threedistinct starts in life, one leads to the professional line, one inthe commercial line and one in the public field. The main fateline is very good and especially with the adjoining lines, thesquare on the mount of Apollo means protection and showswhere the subject will be most successful in the professionalline. The triangle on the mount of Saturn between thebranches of the fate line will prove very good, although atriangle is as a general thing not good, but you show a verygood line. There will be some one connected with the partydrowned, as the cross in the circle indicates, on the mount ofLuna.
