LOCATION

This city is in Spain. Palma de Mallorca is a coastal city located in the east of Spain. It’s near Mediterranean Sea.

Coastal and continental relief

Coastal relief:

❖ Mallorca belongs to an archipelago called Balearic Islands, near to the Mediterranean Sea.

❖ Cape Formentor is the entrant land further north of Mallorca. The people call it ‘Meeting point of the winds’.

Continental relief:

❖ Puig Major is the highest mountain of Mallorca (1445), and also of Balearic Islands. Is in the Tramuntana mountain range.

CLIMATE

Palma de Mallorca has a Mediterranean climate.

Main characteristics of this climate are:

➔ Temperatures are high in the summer, and mild in winter

➔ Summers are very dry

➔ All the months aren’t rainy

➔ Precipitations aren’t heavy

The vegetation of Palma de Mallorca is regular, not much but also not little.

There are different types of Mediterranean vegetation:

● Oaks, olive and pine trees. They grow in Mediterranean forests.

● Shrubs and aromatic plants such as lavender and rosemary.

Landmarks➢ Cuevas del drach has inside a large

underground lake, the Lake Martel. It’s considered one of the biggest underground lake of the world.

➢ Puig Major is the highest point of Mallorca.Is reached 1445 meters and are situed in Sierra de Tramuntana,near Palma de Mallorca.

➢ Bellver castle it’s recognized by their circular structure. Inside the castle are a yard of arms with two floors.

Beaches

The most importants beaches of Mallorca are:

★ Torrent de Pareis, in Sa

Calobra, Escorca. ★ Cala Varques, in Manacor. ★ Playa de Formentor, in

Pollença. ★ Es Trenc, in Campos. ★ Cala Mondragó, in Santanyí.

Food and costumes The typical food in Mallorca are:

❖ Ensaimadas, are the most typical food in Mallorca.

❖ Sopes mallorquines, made with vegetable broth and thin slices of bread.

❖ Sobrasada is a raw sausage curing.

❖ Frit mallorquí, from traditionally prepared meat and offal.

The costumes in Mallorca are:

❖ Dimonis and Correfocs are a dance when the people goes through the streets accompanied with music, fireworks, bonfires and noise.

Our opinion

We chose this city, Palma de Mallorca, because we think that is a really interesting city and beautiful too. There is a very good climate and warm temperatures. Is a good city to live. Did you like it?
