MARCH 25, 2018 - 3 - PALM SUNDAY OF THE LORD’S PASSION

My deepest thanks to all parishioners of St. Timothy parish

for all you do to increase charity and to take on sacrifice.

Fr. Ed

Me (in a tizzy): God, can I ask you something? GOD:

Sure. Me: Promise you won’t get mad? GOD: I promise.

Me (frustrated): Why did you let so much stuff happen to

me today? GOD: What do you mean? Me: Well, I woke

up late. GOD: Yes. Me: My car took forever to start.

GOD: Okay. Me (growling): At lunch, they made my

sandwich wrong and I had to wait. GOD: Hmmmm. Me:

On the way home, my phone went dead, just as I picked up

a call. GOD: All right. Me (Loudly): And, to top it all off,

when I got home, I just wanted to soak my feet in my foot

massager and relax, but it would not work. Nothing went

right today! Why did you do that?

GOD: Well, let me see. . . the death angel was at your bed

this morning and I had to send one of the other angels to

battle him for your life. I let you sleep through that. Me

(humbled): Oh. GOD: I did not let your car start because

there was a drunk driver on your route that might have hit

you if you were on the road. Me (ashamed):. . . GOD:

The first person who made your sandwich today was sick

and I did not want you to catch what they have. I knew you

could not afford to miss work. Me (embarrassed): Oh . . .

GOD: Your phone went dead because the person that was

calling was going to give a false witness about what you

said on that call. I did not even let you talk to them so you

would be covered. Me (softly): I see, God. GOD: Oh, and

that foot massager. It had a short that was going to throw

out all of the power in your house tonight. I did not think

you wanted to be in the dark. Me: I’m sorry, God. GOD:

Do not be sorry, just learn to trust me in all things, the good

and the bad. Me: I WILL trust you God. GOD: And do not

doubt that my plan for your day is always better than your

plan. Me: I won’t, God. And, let me tell you God, thank

you for everything today. GOD: You are welcome, child.

It was just another day being your God and I love looking

after my children.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED

T

he Altar Linens Ministry is one of

our least visual ministries but one of

the most important ministries of the church.

We are all very sensitive to the necessary

care and handling when washing the

vessels that contain the Precious Body and

Blood of Christ. But, have you ever wondered about those

linen’s which catch a fallen crumb on the Altar or the linen’s that

are stained with the wine that was wiped from lip of the Chalice?

These linen’s are washed with the same respectful care and

handling as the vessels. Before laundering, each linen is rinsed

in clear water, and this rinse water is poured onto the ground in

a place away from foot and vehicular traffic. Each linen is then

carefully scrutinized for Precious Blood stains and treated with

salt then hot boiling water. This water must also be poured onto

the ground away from traffic. After the linen’s are stain free, they

may be laundered by machine and then ironed. If you can assist

with this Ministry, contact Pat Schaefer (352) 753-0989.

ST. TIMOTHY WOMEN'S GUILD

For the month of April, St. Timothy’s Women’s

Guild will be having a baby shower to help support

the young mothers and their new babies through

Love, Inc. A representative from Love, Inc. will be

at this meeting to collect all our baby gifts and to

thank us for our generosity. So don’t forget to bring

some beautiful and cute baby outfits and items

desperately needed for all the little “angels” and their mothers.

Ollies ice cream will be served with delicious toppings at this

meeting. The cost per person is $2.00 for the ice cream sodas.

The Dance Fusion band will be playing for your listening

pleasure. This meeting will be held on Tuesday, April 3, at 12:30

in the church social hall. Come one – Come all for the babies.

DOES OUR FAITH HAVE AN ANSWER TO OUR WORLD’S PROBLEMS?

5 WEEK SERIES BEGINS ON APRIL 13

Catholic Social Teaching is “where the rubber hits the road” in

our Catholic faith, tackling issues like abortion, the death

penalty, war, the environment, how to vote as a Catholic and

responding to Jesus’ words: “whatever you do to the least of our

brothers & sisters, you did to me”. Beginning on Friday, April 13

from 1:30-3:00 PM. at St. Timothy parish, all three parishes from

The Villages—St. Mark the Evangelist, St. Timothy and St.

Vincent de Paul—will jointly present a five-part series filled with

informative and inspiring presentations, videos and group

discussion. To register, please contact: David O’Brien,

CATHOLIC ADULT EDUCATION CORNER

Holy Week begins with Palm (Passion) Sunday

and ends with the Holy Triduum—Holy Thursday

(HT), Good Friday (GF) and the Easter Vigil

(EV). HT recalls the Last Supper, the washing of

the feet, the institution of the Eucharist and the

priesthood. HT concludes when the altar is stripped and

Catholics enter the Garden of Gethsemane with Jesus for a night

of prayer. GF is the only day of the year when Mass is not

celebrated. Instead, the GF service includes veneration of the

Holy Cross. The EV Mass is the most elaborate Mass of the year

with rituals of light, fire, a recounting of salvation history and the

baptisms, confirmations and first communions of adults becoming

Catholics through RCIA. According to Pope Leo I, Easter is so

important that Christmas is only celebrated to prepare for Easter.

TRIDUUM

The summit of the Liturgical Year is the Easter Triduum—from

the evening of Holy Thursday to the evening of Easter Sunday.

Though chronologically three days, they are liturgically one day

unfolding for us the unity of Christ's Paschal Mystery.

The single celebration of the Triduum marks the end of the

Lenten season, and leads to the Mass of the Resurrection of the

Lord at the Easter Vigil.

The liturgical services that take place during the Triduum are:

 Mass of the Lord's Supper

Good Friday of the Lord's Passion

Mass of the Resurrection of the Lord

THE MASS OF THE LORD’S SUPPER

The Ceremonial of Bishops sets the context in no. 297: "With

this Mass, celebrated in the evening of the Thursday in Holy

Week, the Church begins the sacred Easter Triduum and

devotes herself to the remembrance of the Last Supper. At the

super on the night he was betrayed, the Lord Jesus, loving those

who were his own in the world even to the end, offered his Body

and Blood to the Father under the appearance of bread and

wine, gave them to the apostles to eat and drink, then enjoined

the apostles and their successors in the priesthood to offer them

in turn. This Mass is, first of all, the memorial of the institution of

the eucharist, that is, of the Memorial of the Lord's Passover, by

which under sacramental signs he perpetuated among us the

sacrifice of the New Law. The Mass of the Lord's Supper is also

the memorial of the institution of the priesthood, by which

Christ's mission and sacrifice are perpetuated in the world. In

addition, this Mass is the memorial of that love by which the Lord

loved us even to death . . ."
