PALATHINKAL VARTHAPATHRIKA

4
Dear members of Palathinkal Kudumbayogam, I am happy to greet you all once again during my tenure as the President of Palathinkal Kudumbayogam. Since writing to you through November 2017 edition of our Vartha Pathrika, a few of our members once again met as a group along with available members of our executive committee, on 3 rd February 2018 at the Union Club Annexe at Kumarakom. Nearly 55 members (including family) gathered at Kumarakom to spend an enjoyable day. The meeting was made memorable, as two of our overseas members Thomas Varghese (Kunjumon of Kalathur branch) from Houston, USA and Shirley (Palathinkal) and husband Pappachen from Washington DC, USA joined us. All arrangements for food, boat rides including speed boat rides were arranged by our Vice President Renjit Kurian. I thank Renjit for his best efforts in making our meet joyful. We wanted to organise a trip to a far off place. But, as the response was lukewarm, we had to abandon the plan. We must come out of our shells and make the best use of our life, God has given us. Our Treasurer Jacob Kurian (Thampi) and Shanta have extended an open invitation to us to visit them at Kozhikode and nearby places. I hope that our members will happily join us, as and when we make the trip. Thomas Varghese (Kunjumon) during his discussion has volunteered to pay an amount annually in memory of his parents, which can be utilised for helping the deserved sick and needy people. I thank him for this good gesture. As I had done during my earlier tenure as President, I have once again requested Kunjumon to organise an overseas chapter of our Kudumbayogam, basing it from North America. He has promised to do the needful. Kunjumon is a regular contributor to the publications of Malayalam Society of America, Houston. I have requested him to write regularly in our Vartha Pathrika, so that our members can have a glimpse of the activities of Malayalees, who live in the North American continent. Once again I request our younger members to join the elders and take over running of our Kudumbayogam. Let us be a shining example to others. Our Secretary, P.K.Kurian (Kunjumon), has volunteered to translate and bring out a Malayalam edition of our Vartha Pathrika. Let us encourage and thank him. Our next AGM is scheduled to be held on 1 st May 2018 at the same venue (Palathinkal Building, T.B.Junction). I look forward to meet you all there. With good wishes to all of you, Bhasi Ipe, President Dear Members, Greetings to you all. Let me present before you a brief report on activities of our Kudumbayogam since the last issue of our Vartha Pathrika. As usual, this year was also full of activities, for which, I thank you all. First meeting was conducted on 10 th June 2017 at the residence of Mr.Bhasi Ipe Arackal. The second meeting was held on 3rd February 2018 at Union Club Annex at Kumarakom, Kottayam. Dear members of Palathinkal Kudumbayogam,

I am happy to greet you all once again during my tenure as the President of Palathinkal Kudumbayogam.

Since writing to you through November 2017 edition of our Vartha Pathrika, a few of our members once again met as a group along with available members of our executive committee, on 3rd February 2018 at the Union Club Annexe at Kumarakom.

Our next AGM is scheduled to be held on 1st May 2018 at the same venue (Palathinkal Building, T.B.Junction). I look forward to meet you all there.

With good wishes to all of you,

Bhasi Ipe, President

residence in Trivandrum and Mr. George Isaac at his residence in Kottayam. Our senior members Mr.Korula Palathinkal Kodimatha and Mr. George Ipe Palathinkal, Kottayam are also under treatment. Let us care for them and visit them.

Many of our Palathinkal children and grandchildren are employed or studying abroad. Hence we plan to form an NRI chapter for those members in Gulf countries, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, North America and Canada. Mr.Thomas Varghese from Houston, TX, USA (Tel. no. 001 832 606 1580), who had attended our last committee meeting at Kumarakom has been entrusted with the task. All of you are requested to give NRI details of our Palathinkal members to Mr.Thomas as soon as possible.

All members are requested to send information on marriages, births, achievements, recognitions, demises, etc in their family,

along with photographs to Editor, President or Secretary for publication in our website as well as in our Vartha Pathrika. Members

are also welcome to submit short stories, poems and travelogues, etc to the editor for publication in our Vartha Pathrika.

Thank you all. P.K.Kurian, Secretary

The members of the Women’s wing of the’ Palathinkal Kudumbayogam’ are happy to say that we were able to do more good things during this year (2017-’18), by the grace of The Almighty God.

We made two house visits during this year. The first one was to Mr. Isaac Philip (Mohan, TVM) on Oct 28th 2017 and the second one was to Mr. George Isaac (our patron) on Jan 25th 2018.They both were very happy to receive us. The home makers Ruby and Sucy deserve our sincere appreciation for the warm and loving hospitality.

On Nov 30th 2017 we all were at Valsa Isaac’s home. Ranjit Mathew’s and Regina’s birthdays fall on this day. Special cakes were baked and shared. We sang the birthday day song and thanked God for his unconditional love and care given to them.

Shirly P John, beneficiary of one of our projects, was invited on this day and our President Mr.Bhasi Ipe, handed over Rs.20,000 to her. Shirly expressed her happiness and thanked all of us, as she could now complete her house construction.

It has been a dream for all of us to spend a day at Kumarakom, located near Kottayam. On Feb, 3rd 2018, nearly fifty five members of the family came to Kumarakom, Rama Varma Club Resort, on the banks of the Vembanad Lake. The day had been pleasant and the meeting facilities were done in a cool place. Mr.Renjit Kurian had made ‘well thought out’ preparation to entertain the members. Our president Mr.Bhasi Ipe announced the future plans of the Kudumbayogam. Soft drinks and spicy starters were served. Varieties of traditional dishes were served for the lunch. The ‘cherupayar payasom ‘was splendid.

The cruise along the Vembanad Lake in a ‘Kettuvallom’ was admirable. The breeze was very soothing and relaxing .We all felt very comfortable. The speed boat ride was truly amazing and the kids enjoyed thoroughly. The youngsters had a busy day out on the grounds of the resort too, playing on swings, slides, see-saws, climbers and merry go rounds. We extend our warmest gratitude to Mr.Renjith Kurian for all the efforts taken to make all of us happy.

As usual, this year also, we were able to donate for charity. Jerusalem Marthoma Hospital Guidance Centre at Arpookara hosts nearly eighty patients. This Centre provides free accommodation/dinner for the patients and manages to give medical support to those who deserve and in desperate need. Ammukochamma handed over Rs.10, 000 to our priest Rev.Joseph Johny and also we gave a bag of rice (10 kgs). This was done on Feb 9th 2018.

Kurichi Mission Centre of Jerusalem Marthoma Church conducts medical camps twice in a month and the missionary Ajeesh Abraham does the hospital visits and checks the need of the poor people living around there. Free check-ups and medicines are given. They need fund to meet the expenses. We are pleased to inform that we visited the Centre on 24-3-2018 and donated Rs.10,000.

We all have to keep in mind, the golden rule based on Jesus’ words in the Sermon on the Mount, ‘Do unto others as you would have them do unto you’. So if you want to be truly cared about, you have to care about others. We thank God for all the nice opportunities we get to serve the humanity.

Thank you all.
