Water blasting

Yu fst step is t wate blast the suace. The aim is temve any lse and aky paint, and t wash any muldand dit. Make sue the suace is clean and dy pi t

paintin. Hweve, i yue paintin uh, absbent suaces,leave the suace damp s the paint will n me easily.

Stripping paint

I the pevius paint wk is in d cnditin, it may justneed a d wate blast and a fne sand. Hweve, i paintcmes easily with liht scapes, yull need t stip it backt a smth suace bee paintin. Scape , wie bushaway all peelin paint. Yu can use a heat un n lae aeast sten the paint, and then scape with a stippin knie.Dnt use a heat un aund windws thuh. They miht

cack the lass. Use a chemical stippe instead. Spt pimeany bae timbe.

Filling & sanding

Use yu fllin knie t fll all cacks, hles and aps.Then sand the flle back s it is level with the est thesuace. Then sand the whle aea that will be painted. Makethe suace as even as pssible.

Exposed nail heads

I epsed nail heads ae nt alvanised, hamme thembelw the suace. Then fll the hles and sand the fllesmth. This pcess will pevent ust stains shwin upthuh yu new paint.

Sugar soap

Use a sua sap t emve all ease, dit and dust.

Sealing/caulking

Use yu caulkin un and a suitable sealant t seal utteleaks and cacks aund windws and ds. Make sue yu

Handy tips or painting yourexterior suraces

Dnt paint a suace in diectsunliht. Yes a sunny dayhelps yu paint dy, but diectsunliht can actually damae

yu paint fnish by dyin itToo quickly. We ecmmendpaintin in the shade andllwin the sun aund yuhuse. Stay in shaded aeaswhile applyin esh paint.

Hees an easy D.I.Y mistuetest cncete suaces atewate blastin. Simply tape asquae clea plastic sheetin(aund 50cm by 50cm) t

the suace. Make sue yuapply the tape secuely s thatits aitiht. Wait at least 24hus, then check undeneaththe sheet any sin cndensatin. Cndensatinwill mean that the suaceneeds lne t dy beepaintin can stat.

Tackle yu etei paint jbne sectin at a time. That way

yu achieve lts milestnesand beak dwn a lae jb intachievable tasks.

BArE SUrFACESBae bicks, cncete & masny

New cncete suaces need t cue at least 28 days beepaintin. Duin this time, wipe away salt and lime build-up.

Ate 28 days, use a wie bush t clean the suace. Then ubthe suace dwn t wipe any lse sand. Fill all cacks,aps and hles with etei flle. Sand it smth and dust .

Cleaning & preparing

General guidelines

I the paint wk is lssy, yu miht want t ub the lss dwn t emveimpeectins and ceate a slihtly uhe suace the new paint t stickppely. rub dwn with 200 it wet and dy abasive pape dipped in wate.

Previously painted timber in good condition

I the timbe has been peviusly painted, check t see i the paint wk is in dcnditin. I it is, just ub it dwn with a a dipped in methylated spiits. Then ub

dwn lss with 200 it pape. This is all the stippin yull need t d bee fllin and then pimin.

Always pime peviusly painted timbe with an il-based pime unless yu havettally stipped the timbe bae.

Previously painted timber in poor condition

Hade stippin will be needed i the pevius paint wk is in p cnditin (akin,cacked, peelin, etc) i the pevius clu is much dake than the new clu.

rub dwn lss.

replace epai any tted timbe.

Pime bae patches wd.

Fill aps, cacks and nail hles with etei wd flle (eible flle).

remve any lse putty n windws, and eplace with new putty.

Always prime previously painted timber with an oil-based primerunless you have totally stripped the timber bare





Bare timber

replace all tten and decayed timbe.

All new timbe shuld be pimed ist. only THEN shuldyu ill aps, cacks and hles with etei wd ille(leible ille).

Sand smth and dust dwn.

Then pime. Always use an acylic pime n new timbe.

Weatherboards

A lt peple make the mistake wate blastinweathebads, and end up with a whle lt wate insidethei walls! I the pevius paint wk is in d cnditin,it may just need a d wash dwn with a sua sap/wateslutin and then a fne sand.

I paint cmes easily with liht scapes, yull need t stipit back t a smth suace bee paintin.

Scape , wie bush away all peelin paint. Yu can usea heat un n lae aeas t sten the paint i the peviuspaint is wate-based. Then yull just need t scape stened paint with a stippin knie. Dnt use a heat unaund windws thuh. They miht cack the lass.Use a chemical stippe instead.

I the pevius paint is il-based, use an LPg uelled blwtch t sten the paint, just sand by hand with amachine sande.

Spt pime any bae timbe.

remembe that peviusly painted timbe must be pimedwith an il-based pime unless yu have ttally stipped thetimbe bae.

Then sand. When sandin timbe, sand WITH the ain. Theaim is t et id small impeectins and lse fbes mthe suace. Lse fbes ae likely i the timbe has beenepsed t the elements me than a week.

Dust the timbe .

Paintin

Type o paint

F weathebad use a lss acylic.

F the timbe walls yu can use a lw-sheen pimentedpaint a semi-tanspaent penetatin il stain.

I yue ate a natual fnish use Fld CWF Cleawd etei wd and Fld CWF UV Natual Cleawd fnish etei wd.


F weathebads, and when usin any kind wate-basedpaint n timbe, use ne PALs bushes (available inthee pice anes t suit vayin budets) and ty aSpeed bush handle and pad (125mm/175mm available).

Always sand and pime timben the same day. That way yupevent the isk any mistueettin in and messin with yupaint wk.
