United 4 Children considers these four pillars as the
foundation of our work as we meet people where they are and
guide them to gain skills in the following areas.
United 4 Children educates and advocates for children who
are at-risk. We invest early in children through their caregivers,
teachers, and families to: reduce youth violence; prevent child
neglect and abuse; and reduce educational inequities.
Our Philosophy
We are painting futures
bright...
Check out these sobering facts and our solutions!
U4C Solution: Through U4C’s Inclusion Services, 98% of chil-dren with special care needs were able to maintain their child care placement in 2015. This means that the children were able to stay with the school and teachers they love!
Fact: One in six children in the
U.S. has a special care need.
Children with special care needs
experience disruption of care and
inability to stay connected with
friends more than typically
developing children.
U4C Solution: Through U4C’s
SEEC project in 2015, 85% of
children were able to improve
their emotional development
because of early
developmental screening!
Fact: A child is 73% more likely to
be expelled from school and
incarcerated later in life if they do
not develop on target emotionally.
We are painting futures
bright...
Check out these sobering facts and our solutions!
Fact: Missouri ranks 27th
out of
the 50 states in the prevalence of
children considered to be
overweight or obese. U4C Solution: In 2015, U4C
worked with child care provid-
ers to decrease the use of pro-
cessed foods as snacks by
64%, use of sweets as snacks
by 67% and increase the use of
vegetables as snacks by 70%!
Fact: Children whose teachers
continue their professional
development are 2.5 times more
likely to continue on to higher
education.
U4C Solution: In 2015 U4C
provided 7,728 child and youth
educators with 55,763 total
hours of career development.
Career Development
5,006 children were given the opportunity to
thrive in early childhood and school age
programs since 7,728 teachers and
administrators attended Career Development
courses. These courses were geared to explore
all facets of quality program implementation so
that children had a great place to be!
Early Childhood Learning Center
We had a grand opening of our new Early Childhood
Learning Center! Children are able to bridge the
educational gap by attending the Early Childhood
Learning Center (ECLC). At the ECLC we work to
achieve kindergarten readiness for children and
families by building relationships and learning through
play.
Healthy Nutrition
8,739 children were guaranteed healthy meals
each day with our Healthy Nutrition program.
569 childcare providers were given financial
assistance and nutritional guidance in assuring
healthy meals and snacks were
offered to our children in Missouri and Illinois.
Inclusion Services
725 children with developmental, behavioral or
physical challenges and their families were offered
security, compassion, and understanding with our
Inclusion Services. We assisted 314 families in
locating quality inclusive programs and we worked
with 3,201 program staff to assure the best care
possible!
“We are indebted to you
for that learning
experience. Also, the
observations and
consultations you provided
the classroom in their work
with “Kai” and his family,
allowed them to make
appropriate adjustments in
their interactions, guidance
and support. He has made
tremendous progress!”

Programs Achieving Quality
574 children were given the chance to succeed in
kindergarten by attending quality early childhood
programs. Through Programs Achieving Quality 518
childcare professionals were given the education
and resources needed to offer high quality,
developmentally appropriate and sustainable
businesses. We even helped 12 teachers earn a
Nationally Recognized Child Development Associate
Credential!
Road to Quality
3,760 school age youth flourished in engaging
and educational after school programs with Road to
Quality. Through the education of 366 after school
professionals we improved each child’s
educational experience and helped to reduce youth
violence.
Social Emotional Early Childhood Project
652 children were given the social and emotional
skills needed to be successful in life through the
Social Emotional Early Childhood Project. 92
teachers learned how to support children through
problem solving and conflict resolution using a
preventative model of working through challenging
behaviors.
Strengthening Families
Child abuse and neglect is reduced through the
Strengthening Families approach. 218 family
members and youth workers learned the five
protective factors that help keep our children safe
and healthy.
“You were the only one
who provided what I’ve
asked for from all
involved which was some
alternatives- I wanted to
give her positive direction
of what they wanted her
“to do” when she was
getting in a heightened
emotional state rather
than just telling her what
“not” to do.”
