I have run painting courses for many years. I teach skills and techniques so artists and beginners at all levels can

develop. Also, I have sold and exhibited around the world, including Russia,

China, Asia and the Middle East. I have written many books with translations

into several languages, and I have presented television, mostly with live

painting demonstrations.

Materials Advice Brushes: Recommended brushes - Rosemary and Co Series 22 Number 7. Series 33 number 3. 01535 632666. www.rosemaryandco.com

Paper: Number 1 choice. Arches 140lb rough – preferably stretched, or Arches 300lb “not” if not stretched. Number 2 choice. Fabriano Artistico 300GSM (140lb) Rough.

Paints: Tubes. 1.Phthalo green (Winsor Green Blue Shade)/2.Burnt sienna/3.Cadmium lemon/4.Quinacridone magenta/5.Paynes grey or Neutral tint/6.French ultramarine or Ultramarine blue/7.Cobalt blue/8.Phthalo blue (Windsor blue red or green shade).

Additional useful colours: Quinacridone gold/Naples yellow/Azo Green or Green Gold. Best budget UK supplier – Seawhite of Brighton. Trade counter at Partridge Green.

Other items: Ceramic palettes such as ordinary crockery with flat mixing areas. I use 3 or 4 side plates - a couple of dinner plates will suffice. Toothbrush for occasional techniques, kitchen roll, sketch paper, spare watercolour paper, water jars, scrap paper, masking tape, 2B pencils, masking fluid, small pointed synthetic brush for masking.
