Heritage Quest database One of the several databases provided by the South Holland Public
Library is HeritageQuest This database combines the ability to search images of Federal census information
with digitized family and local history books and periodicals These images are taken directly from the census
files so the researcher can view the image of the actual historical record The different sections of
HeritageQuest contain ldquoHelprdquo screens to explain what the records are and how to use them The new Learning
Center uses video and slide presentations to introduce many aspects of genealogical research HeritageQuest

LIBRARY NEWS
Come visit and be amazed by the changes at your library Anyone who has not visited our library recently may be
very surprised Not only have we worked to make our col-
lection better by removing outdated and damaged books
we have moved things around to better use our space
We are planning to create more study areas in the Adult
non-fiction area and have moved the Young Adult collec-
tion into the non-fiction space which will make it easier
for the teens to get help when they need it Soon we will
have a casual seating area and three study rooms there as
well We are working on moving the DVDs into a con-
tained space near the check- out desk which should make
it easier to browse and use that collection Additional
shelving will allow us to buy more Playaways and books
on CD Wersquore confident that these changes will make a
better library experience for everyone
Soon to be Famous Illinois Author
South Holland Public Library staff received one entry from a self-published South Holland author of adult fiction who submitted a book for consideration for the Soon to be Famous Illinois Author project sponsored by the Illinois Library Association and RAILS The winner will be announced during National Library Week in April 13-19 2014
Our 2nd Annual Giving Tree Event
Once again you and the library partnered with Chicago Prison Outreach (CPO) a local charity whose mission includes providing that sense of joy and hope to chil-dren who through no fault of their own were not be able to celebrate the Holiday season with their parents Thank you all for your generosity during this past holi-day season
From the Reference Niche January database of the month
MANGO Languages database offers FILMS in Januarymdashan exciting up-
date
Mango is offering a new learning experience through viewing foreign films in their native languages
starting in January This is a very exciting brand new way to learn languages (Or it can be used just to see foreign films on-line) Films are graded MO-M18 The Film Content policy allows parents an easy
way to decide whether to allow a child to access this language learning tool A brochure giving more content infor-mation will be available at the Library
M0+ Mango feels most parents would allow children of any age to watch this content however parental discretion should still be exercised M8+ These films may contain some content unsuitable for children under 8 years old Mango feels most parents would allow children ages 8 and up to watch these films however parental discretion should still be exercised M13+ These films may contain some content unsuitable for children under 13 years old Mango feels most parents would allow children ages 13 and up to watch these films however parental discretion should still be exercised M18+ These films may contain some content unsuitable for children under 18 years old Parental discretion is advised
