Notice To Fishermen Power Cable Installation – Westray & Papa Westray (New 20-08-2012) Please be advise Please be advised that Briggs Marine Contractors will be carrying out submarine power cable installation works between Westray and Papa Westray.

The works will be carried out between the Bay of Swartmill, Westray 59°17.90´N 02°54.99´W and the Bay of Moclett, Papa Westray 59°19.83´N 02°53.63´W.

Marine operations will be running from Monday 27th August to Sunday 2nd September 2012.

The operations will be carried out from the vessels ‘Forth Guardsman’, ‘Forth Jouster’ and ‘Forth Linesman’. The Forth Guardsman will perform cable installation operations using a combination of spud legs near shore and a 4 point mooring pattern offshore. The Forth Guardsman will be supported by the Forth Jouster as an Anchor Handling Vessel and the Forth Linesman as a Dive Support Vessel. During cable lay and jointing operations the Forth Guardsman will be restricted in the ability to manoeuvre. It is requested that all vessels operating within this area keep their distance and pass at minimum speed.

Operations will be carried out on a day operations basis, the vessels will display the appropriate day shapes and lights (during reduced visibility) required by the IRPCS and will actively transmit an AIS signal. A continuous watch will be maintained on VHF Channel 16 and DSC.

Brent Bravo – Surface and Subsurface Hazards (Update 02-05-2012) Please be advised that we are currently constructing a floating barrier within the 500m zone of the Brent Bravo. This comprises a series of floating buoys which are moored through a hybrid catenary (rope and chain) system to 8 x 12t Stevpris anchors. The 6 large orange surface buoys have a yellow flash every 5 seconds and are fitted with radar reflectors.

Although everything is inside the 500m zone, it must be highlighted to the fishing community operating in the area that the anchors are close to the outer perimeter of the 500m zone and as such could be hazardous to fishing vessels who tow their gear right on the edge. Therefore vessels operating in the area must account for any forces which may cause their gear to go inside the 500m zone - even by just a few meters. The support vessel ‘Ocean Spey’ is stationed at Brents and will be on hand to offer fishing vessels advice regarding their proximity to the safety zone and the above mentioned hazards.

The bundles were installed using the controlled depth tow method (CDTM) and towed to site from Sinclair Bay, Wick. Once in location each bundle was sunk into place by flooding the carrier pipe. The tow fleet for each bundle comprised two Lead Tugs and a Trail Tug, accompanied by the ROV Support/Survey vessel (RSV), a flooding vessel and a Guard Vessel.

All four bundles have now been installed. Appurtenance removal for all four bundles will be carried out by DSV in August and September 2012. The 44” caisson riser was towed to the site by two tow tugs, lowered to a wet store area, then installed on the Andrew jacket by DSV. This scope commenced with clamp installation in mid March and final caisson installation completed early April 2012.

The installation of the umbilical and subsequent trenching is to be carried out (dates tbc). Tie-in spool installation is to be carried out between the four bundles by DSV in August and September 2012.

Further activities to be completed in 2012 and 2013 include riser umbilical installation, Andrew and Kinnoull tie-ins and pre-commissioning.

Brent – Rock bagging and Anode Mattresses (Update 13-08-2012) The Brent Pipeline, PL004, connects the Cormorant Alpha platform to the Sullom Voe terminal on the Shetland island. The pipeline has an internal diameter of 36inches and is approximately 153.3km in length. Recent surveys have been found that the original anodes have been depleted to a stage where they need to be replaced to continue to protect the pipeline. TAQA intend to install anode mattresses at strategic points during August 2012 along the pipeline to ensure that the pipeline is provided with the required level of cathodic protection. During a recent pipeline ROV survey a span was identified on the Brent pipeline. TAQA intend to rectify this span using rock bags.

EnQuest’s Knighbridge Project – Alma and Galia Field Development (New 31-07-2012) EnQuest’s Knightsbridge project shall redevelop the former Ardmore and Duncan fields as Alma and Galia. The fields shall be brought on stream in Q4 2013 using the EnQuest Producer FPSO. Subsea wells shall be tied back to the EnQuest Producer through flexible flowlines and risers.

The development lies in Blocks 30/24 and 30/25, situated approximately 310 kilometres south east of Aberdeen and approximately 19 kilometres from the UK/Norwegian trans boundary median line. Water depths are known to be approximately 80 metres in the area. The Alma field will be redeveloped using a 6 slot production manifold located adjacent to six production wells at the Alma production drill centre approximately 2,200 metres from the FPSO. The Alma reservoir pressure will be maintained by a water injection system also situated at the Alma production drill centre. The Galia field will be redeveloped in conjunction with the Alma field by connecting the Galia well to the Alma manifold.

Scientific Deployment – Swansea Bay - 16th July 2012 (New 16-07-2012)

EMU Limited will be deploying oceanographic equipment during w/c 16th July at five locations in Swansea Bay.

Swansea 1 51°33.290’N 03°59.300’W Swansea 2 51°31.780’N 03°58.960’W Swansea 3 51°33.560’N 03°56.320’W Swansea 4 51°34.400’N 03°55.390’W Swansea 5 51°31.820’N 03°51.250’W

The vessel RV Noctiluca Call Sign: ZNAL9 will be engaged in the works. At each of the five locations an acoustic current profiler (housed in a metal frame) will be deployed on the seabed. The seabed frame will form part of an L-shaped mooring. The position of each profiler will be marked by use of a surface marker buoy (SMB). The SMB will be approximately 50m from the seabed frame. They will be equipped with radar reflectors and an amber navigation light set to flash 5 times every 20 seconds. Due to the presence of seabed equipment, it is requested that passing vessels give the marker buoy a wide berth of approximately 200m.
