Obituary Policy Obituaries Rexford Mellie McCormick of Huntington Rexford Mellie McCormick, 90, of Huntington, WV. for- merly of Kenova passed away Sunday, December 8, 2013 at the Woodlands Retirement Community. Rex was born July 2, 1923 in Lincoln County. He was one of eleven children born to the late Mellie Homer and Effie McClure McCormick. He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Navy during WW II. Rex was a salesman having worked in the auto industry and real estate. He was general manager of several dealer- ships, including Gallipolis Motors. He was owner of Rex McCormick Chevrolet in Kenova. He was a mem- ber of the First Baptist Church of Kenova and the C-K Rotary Club. Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two wives Jeane Eleanor Murray McCormick and Agnes Wanamacher McCormick and one son Jerry Lee McCormick. Survivors include one daughter and son-in- law Judith McCormick Burks (Michael) of West Chester, Ohio; one son John Michael McCormick of Kenova; four step-chil- dren; seven grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchil- dren and a special friend Lois Atkinson. Burial followed at the Ollie Stiltner Cemetery on Napier’s Ridge. She was born January 14, 1937 at Genoa, WV, a daughter of the late George and Laura Fields Holland. She was a homemaker and member of the Comfort United Baptist Church. Willard Jack Mills of Ceredo Willard Jack Mills, 81, of Ceredo, WV, passed away Friday, December 6, 2013 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, WV. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, December 14, 2013 at Morris Funeral Home Chapel, Wayne, WV, with Chaplain Randy White officiating. Burial will fol- low at the Mills-Vaughan Cemetery near East Lynn, WV. He was born September 10, 1932 on Peter Cave Road, Wayne, WV, a son of the late Burgess and Jenny Mills. He was retired from the U. S. Army after 20 years of service, as well as being a 20 year employee of the Huntington VA Medical Center. Harry graduated from Wayne High School and Marshall University, continuing to faithfully support both schools’ ath- letic programs. He was retired from Southwestern Community Action Council where he served as Executive Director. He was also employed by Newton Manufacturing Company as a sales representative. His brother and best friend, Larry Eugene Smith, and an infant brother, also preced- ed him in death. Donald Harvey Preston, 74, beloved husband of Betty Sperry Preston of Kenova died on December 9, 2013 after a brief illness. He was born on October 22, 1939 in Wayne, WV; the son of the late Goodwin Wayne Preston and Nola Staley. Donald is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Susan (Mike) rampley and two sons, Donnie Preston of NC, and robbie (Kristi) Preston of Kenova, and one grand-daughter and grandson from NC, Shelbi and Brock Preston, and two grandsons from Kenova, Taylor Cassidy and Dylan Preston. Also surviving are two brothers, Bernard Preston of Genoa and Jerry Preston of Kenova. Don retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a rural letter carrier. 71, of Genoa, W.Va., passed away Sunday, December 8, 2013 at St. Mary’s Medical Center. She was born April 26, 1942 in Wayne, West Virginia, a daughter of the late Tom and Gladys Adkins. Her sisters, rosie Adkins, Ida Adkins, and Brookie Wiley also preceded her in death. Martha was a devoted wife and homemaker who never failed to express her love for her children with all her heart. She leaves behind her husband of 53 years, James ray Brooks; five sons, robert Brooks of Genoa, Toney Brooks and his wife Sheri of Sevierville, Tenn., randy Brooks and his wife rose of Cumming, Ga., Jimmie Brooks and his fiancé ruthann Kilpatrick of Wayne, and ray Brooks Jr. and his wife Sharon of Ga.; two daughters, Candace furry and her husband Scott of rock Hill, S.C., and Camma Myers and her husband Scott of Long Valley, N.J.; 12 grandchil-dren; 7 great grandchildren; special aunt and best friend, Bonnie russell of Kingston, Oh.; and a host of friends and family too numerous to mention. funeral servic-es will be conducted at 1 p.m. Thursday, December 12, 2013 at Johnson Tiller funeral Home with rev. earl Burgess offici-ating.
