Legend has it that during all those years of rugged and oſtentimes difficult trail- riding and movie-making, the Duke never once gave his horse a name. Why? He said he didn’t want to get too attached because he never knew when he might have to eat him! It’s true that none of us know what the future Minister’s Corner holds, even the near future. I’ve jokingly said that I never buy green bananas since I’m not sure I’ll be around long enough for them to ripen. In the 12th chapter of Luke, Jesus tells the par- able of the very wealthy, very foolish farmer who started making plans to expand his agricultural operation due to the recent bumper crop harvest he’d had. Unbeknownst to him, however, was the fact that his impending death was just a few hours away. A sobering reminder, I sup- pose, that our plans are not always God’s plans, and that we must be prepared at any second to meet the Lord through death, speak to someone about their need for Christ, or help out a person in need. e Boy Scout motto is a good one for the Christian disciple, as well: ‘Be prepared’…and we might add ‘at a moment’s notice.’ By PASTOR JIM ROBINSON Brandenburg United Methodist Church NOTICE The Meade County Messenger will print a picture of your loved one in the obituary column. Legend has it that during all those years of rugged and oftentimes difficult trail-riding and movie-making, the Duke never once gave his horse a name. Why? He said he didn’t want to get too attached because he never knew when he might have to eat him! It’s true that none of us know what the future

Minister’s Corner holds, even the near future. I’ve jokingly said that I never buy green bananas since I’m not sure I’ll be around long enough for them to ripen.

In the 12th chapter of Luke, Jesus tells the par-able of the very wealthy, very foolish farmer who started making plans to expand his agricultural operation due to the recent bumper crop harvest he’d had. Unbeknownst to him, however, was the fact that his impending death was just a few hours away. A sobering reminder, I sup-pose, that our plans are not always God’s plans, and that we must be prepared at any second to meet the Lord through death, speak to someone about their need for Christ, or help out a person in need. The Boy Scout motto is a good one for the Christian disciple, as well: ‘Be prepared’…and we might add ‘at a moment’s notice.’
