A MESSAGE FROM OUR PASTOR

Dear Holy Apostles Parish Family:

I hope you found all the blessings of Easter in this very different moment! Holy Week and Easter were very emotional and unforgettable to me. On Holy Thursday, all I could think of were the nurses washing the feet of Jesus, their patients. Next year we will be washing the feet of front liners. Then Deacon Curt touched the pictures of people as we transferred the Eucharist for adoration. We spoke afterwards and he just broke down saying that it was so hard seeing the faces of all those people and not being able to be together.

On Friday morning I then started a tradition I will keep until we all come back to church. I walk through the pews and look at each picture, some in gratitude, some laughs, some prayers and lots of love. I see pictures of people alone, families, extended families, people at weddings, ballgames, vacations and many wonderful moments. We have about 500 pictures and at least 1,500 people in the pews. Some are even people who watch us from across the nation. The beauty of this moment is that we have 100 devices signed on at daily Mass and 650 on Easter Sunday, which means multiply that by 2 or 3 to get how many people are watching together. The immense blessing was to see how many families got together from all over the country to be together yet apart at Mass. My favorite part of holidays is to see people come home and see three generations at Mass together. That’s when its powerful

On Sunday it hit me that if we can get through Good Friday in this moment and stay home safe, imagine what the resurrection will look like when we return to our new normal. I keep thinking of this time as the time of labor a birthing mom goes through then the joy of seeing that beautiful baby and say I want this child to have a beautiful life. If we take care of ourselves in this moment like a pregnant mom, go through labor and suffering of being at home and losing all the events cancelled, while being apart from people we love, how good will it be to hug them again? This Holy Week I pray will give rise to a real resurrection in our world where we see the good-ness in each other and not allow the fear and anger of a loud few drown out all that goodness and love.

Here is hoping this Resurrection leads to new life for us all!

Father Paul

Help Feed our Friends in Need Massive unemployment has a created a great need for food in our community. Our St. Vincent de Paul Food Pantry is running low. If you are able, please donate non-perishable food (pasta, sauce, peanut butter, mac ‘n cheese, rice, tuna, canned fruits and vegeta-bles, beans) to the pantry. Please leave your food donations at the handicapped entrance (with the canopy) on the west side of church. Thank you!

A powerful image of love in these times. Lord, help us to see you in everyone and be you to all. Keep all our front liners safe and healthy.

It has long been a Catholic understanding that when circumstances prevent one from receiving Holy Communion, it is possible to make an Act of Spiritual Communion, which is a source of grace. Spiritual Communion is an ardent desire to receive Jesus in the Most Holy Sacrament and lovingly embrace him at a time or in circumstances when one cannot receive Him in sacramental Communion. The most common reason for making an Act of Spiritual Communion is when a person cannot attend Mass. Acts of Spiritual Communion increase our desire to receive sacramen-tal Communion and help us avoid the sins that would make us unable to receive Holy Communion worthily. Pray this with live stream Mass:

Spiritual Communion Prayer My Jesus, I believe that you are present in the Most Holy Sacrament. I love you above all things and I desire to receive you in my soul. Since I cannot at this moment receive you sacramentally, Come at least spiritually into my heart. I embrace you as if you were already there And unite myself wholly to you. Never permit me to be separated from you. Amen.

.Your Gifts Help our Needy Neighbors As we all continue to navigate through social distanc-ing and a focus on staying healthy, the impacts rever-berate throughout our own lives, our local community and our country. Many of us have been unable to work due to temporary business closures and/or our chil-dren being home from school. As we support our loved ones and friends through phone calls, social media contact and our prayers, you may wonder how you can also support others in our community. The St. Vincent de Paul Society greatly appreciates your donations through GiveCentral, text to 84321 to give, or mail your check in; all donations go directly toward helping those in our community who are struggling with utility, housing, medical bills as well as with food shortages. "Whoever has a bountiful eye will be blessed, for he shares his bread with the poor." Proverbs 22:9

With funding from the St. Vincent de Paul Society, a food truck distribution took place on April 6th here at Holy Apostles. We were able to serve 145 households (436 individuals with 146 of those being 18 and un-der). Fifty four of the households said they visited a food pantry in the last three months. The need is great and will continue to grow with so many people out of work. Another food truck distribution is scheduled for next Saturday, April 25, at 12 noon. One hundred percent of your gifts to the St. Vincent de Paul Society directly help people right here in our community in so many ways. Thank you so much for your gifts!

How Can We/You Help? Holy Apostles has received many calls and emails from parish members asking how they can help serve those in our community who need our help during this challenging time due to job loss, being isolated in an senior assisted living, etc. We also want to hear from you if you are the one that needs help. We have created a “COVID-19 McHenry Outreach Group” that will allow people to share their needs and those who want to help to communicate and serve each other. Please visit our website tcoha.org and click on the “Help Your Neighbor COVID-19 McHenry Outreach Groups” slide on the home page. The best thing we can all do right now is to STAY HOME AND HELP STOP THE SPREAD OF COVID-19! Please also pray especially for our front liners—our medical person-nel, first responders, truck drivers, employees of stores that are open, and many others who are overworked, stressed and daily face the possibility of getting ill.

Our Holy Apostles campus is a place of quiet peace and natural beauty. God’s presence can truly be felt among the trees and lawns and plantings and in the skies above. Our priests both captured an example of God’s handiwork as they walked the grounds. Fr. Paul caught a colorful rainbow above the Adoration Chapel after a rain and Fr. Andrew a bright full moon right at the tip of the bell tower. Both can be seen as messages of hope in these uncertain times.

We’re Doing HAGT 2.0! Since our first Holy Apostles’ Got Talent virtual talent show was such a huge hit, we are planning on hosting another one on Saturday, April 25, at 5 PM! Time to get practicing and make a video! To submit talent show videos, upload them to YouTube, Facebook, Vimeo, or TikTok and send us a link through Facebook Messenger or our Instagram DM's. You may also email them to [email protected]. If you post them on Facebook, make the post public and add a Hashtag of #hagt2020. Our last talent show featured singing, musicians playing banjo, violin, hula-hooping, cooking, art, physical feats, and more! We hope to see even more amazing talents for our next show. Feel free to submit talents including Comedy, Music, Art, Dancing, Collaborations, Makeup, or anything else you can think of! We’re looking forward to seeing your creations!

Virtual Spirituality Tap-in The Catholic Order of Foresters will once again host a Spirituality Tap-in event, this time a virtual one! Join in for virtual Catholic conversation, grow in your faith and connect with like-minded people! Our own Father Paul will again be the presenter, speaking on the topic of “What is God calling us to in this Pandemic?” on Thursday, May 14, at 7 PM. Register at www.catholicforester.org/fraternal-outreach/spirituality-tap-in/virtual-spirituality-tap-in to reserve your spot, and COF will send you a confirmation email with details. There's no cost to you…join in for an interesting evening!

Shown left, students of our parish school, Montini Catholic School, are thriving in this new type of learning thanks to wonderful parents, dedicated teachers, and spiritual guidance from our priests.

Pray for Our April Deceased At the 8 AM Mass on the third Sunday of the month, we remember all those who died during that month in past years, tak-en from Holy Apostles’ funeral records. Please pray that their souls are at rest with the Lord. Eternal rest grant to them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them. May the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace. Amen.

The message of The Divine Mercy is that God loves us and wants us to recognize that His mercy is greater than our sins, so that we will call upon Him with trust, receive His mercy, and let it flow through us to others. Thus, all will come to share His joy. The Divine Mercy message is one we can call to mind simply by remembering ABC: A—Ask for His Mercy. God wants us to approach Him in prayer constantly, repenting of our sins and asking Him to pour His mercy out upon us and upon the whole world. B—Be merciful. God wants us to receive His mercy and let it flow through us to others. He wants us to extend love and forgiveness to others just as He does to us. C—Completely trust in Jesus. God wants us to know that the graces of His mercy are dependent upon our trust. The more we trust in Jesus, the more we will receive. This message and devotion to Jesus as The Divine Mercy is based on the writings of Saint Faustina Kowalska, an uneducated Polish nun who, in obedience to her spiritual director, wrote a diary of about 600 pages recording the revelations she received about God's mercy.
