PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE By Sue Campbell I hope everyone had a fun St. Patrick's Day this month. The Board has been busy getting
a lot of work completed/scheduled. I am happy to let everyone know that we now have
Bingo up and running with all new equipment. We have the pool decking scheduled to be
started the last week of April. The parking lot lighting is scheduled to begin the first week
of May and we had some extra electrical work done around the building. We will be get-
ting a new security system for all the gates and that will be scheduled for installation in
October. Please remember your badges when you come to the Club. Please be respectful
to our members’ families and friends that may be visiting and using the pool, etc. I know that many of
you will be heading home, please have safe travels and I look forward to seeing you in the Fall .

The Edgewater Arts ‘N’ Craft Club by Barbara Waters-Riddle and Jo McKeough
The Arts ‘’N’ Craft Club has been very busy this month. Our artists have learned to share table space,
ideas and techniques, while enjoying each other’s company and encouraging comments from our teach-
er. During the month of March the class has been painting underwater seahorses and fish on linoleum
floor mats. The mat on the left is done in brillant colors of pinks, purple, yellow, greens and black, The
picture on the right is also done in vibrint col-
ors of pinks, purple and greens. Everyone of
these mats is different. Our next project will
be seashell roses (by request with Pat Shire-
man) on April 3rd. This class is full but the class
sheduled for April 10th has openings. Please
sign up on the class sheet posted on the bulle-
tin board in the main hall of the clubhouse.
Cost is $3.00 per flower. For those interested,
the remainder of April and the first part of May
will be allocated to painting bar stools. Then the Arts ‘N’ Craft Club will close for
the summer. If anyone wishes to help reorganize the Arts ‘N’ Craft Cottage during
the summer months, please contact Barb Riddle. We will reopen the first Monday
in October.

cided that the next luncheon would be held on April 26th at one o'clock at Landy’s Restaurant.
BROADWAY PALM DINNER THEATER by Bob & Pat Cameron 941-474-435
Jesus Christ Superstar is the last offering of the 2016-2017 season. At present there are 53
of us going on April 13th. There are 2 tickets still available. This rock opera came out in 1970
and was the 2nd of Andrew Llyod Weber’s many successes. Tim Rice wrote the words which are sung all
the way through the musical. The opera centers on the conflicts in thought between Judas Iscariot and
Christ. I look forward to the interpretation done by the Broadway Palm’s excellent cast. Happy Easter
and safe travels to those going north.
EDITORS’ NOTE: We are in need of a co-editor to help with proofreading and re-writes
for the newsletter. June Rietdorf has a super busy schedule with the two choral groups she
works with during the winter season and will not be able to continue to do this job. Please
consider volunteering for this important position. On another note , I will be redoing the
website over the next few months. It will be a work in progress so if you access it don’t be surprised at
changes . I will welcome comments, suggestion, and assistance, some of which I have already received
from Adrian Overdulve. Thank you Adrian. Your help is greatly appreciated

LEMON DROPS CHORUS by June Rietdorf
The Lemon Drops had a very
busy March with performances
at the Englewood Women’s Club and the Veter-
an’s Home in Port Charlotte along with their big
spring program ALL ABOARD! at the Lakeside
Clubhouse. We will donate half of the net
proceeds to the Honor Flight Program at the
Douglas Jacobson Veteran’s Home in memory of
David Rockow, son of Jim and Mary Rockow.
This program sponsors trips to Washington D.C.
to visit the memorials and supplies the vets with
wheelchairs and airfare. David believed in this
program and made many trips to DC with the
vets. This will be the end of this season, but I
look forward to singing Christmas carols with
everyone in December when we start again. If
you read music and like to sing four part
harmony, we would love to have you join our
community chorus. Have a safe and relaxing
summer!
WATER AEROBICS CLASS by Barbara Keefer

after the brief hiatus for the cool weather. If the
air temperature is 65 at 9:15 aerobics will be held
unless the wind is excessive. If you are in doubt,
call Barb Keefer at 460-3133 before 9:30 AM.
We begin promptly at 10:00 and end at 10:45AM.
Men are welcome to join us.
SHUFFLEBOARD by Mary Rockow
On Thursday Mar.16, 2017 Edgewater hosted the
last of four Guest Matches held this season.
"Nothing is ever easy." Once again though, after
a rough start, we outscored our opponents by our
highest margin of 249 points. Lakeside did win
the first game by 6 points. We made a comeback
in the second game and won by 238 points. After
the third game, the overall totals were Edgewater
2038, Lakeside 1789. This season is winding
down and will end April 10th. Just four more Mon-
day mornings to play at 9:00AM. Next year’s
league play will begin November 6, 2017.Our
thanks go to Lang Capasso for keeping our scores
and Margaret Bennett for our score sheets.
See you at the courts.

WHAT THE HECK IS PICKLEBALL?
By Dick Libby Come find out from 1 to 3 pm on Sunday and
Tuesday at the tennis courts. Paddles and balls
are provided by the club and the only other
equipment you need are appropriate shoes to
play safely on the courts; tennis shoes, running
shoes, sneakers; no flip-flops. The play is easily
learned, lots of fun, and good exercise. No previ-
ous experience is necessary. Current players are
happy to work with new players to get them
quickly playing the game.
BUNCO by Lee Cavey
Just a reminder that Bunco is the second
and fourth Monday evening at 6:30pm.
Please wear your nametag and don't be late.
Michigan Day by Cheryl Miller
The Third Annual Edgewater Club’s Michigan Day
was held on March 23rd, with sixty Michiganders
attending. Again this year we played Michigan
Trivia and each member of winning team of
Sander's Hot Fudge was awarded a scratch-off
lottery ticket. A great potluck from our Michigan
cooks and burgers prepared by Henry, Ted and
Grant were enjoyed by all. We ran a 50/50 that
paid $20 to five lucky winners, and held a draw-
ing for eight Michigan-grown or Michigan-made
product baskets. Special thanks to Donna and
Don Erickson for their donation of a “Yooper Bas-
ket”. If you happen to come across any non-
perishable Michigan products this summer and
would like to donate them to be included in a
prize basket for next year, please bring them
when you return to Englewood. All of us on the
committee (I, Nancy Fournier, Nancy Kramer,
Bonnie Hartman, Sharon Baczynski, and Mary
Daun Hartman) enjoy hosting this event and look
forward to the 2018 Michigan Day, which will be
held on Thursday March 22, 2018.

BOCCE by John Bauer
The official Bocce season has been
completed for 2017. It was capped off with a very
nice banquet at the Club. The 2017 champions
were honored and awarded trophies for their ex-
pert play during the league games. The Thursday
Champions were Rollie Ralph and Ray Steele. The
Wednesday Champions and after a playoff game,
the Club Champions, were Jake Callier and Wayne
Mitchell. Congratulations to these four individuals
for their fine play throughout the season. Believe
me, they had serious competition. Our highlight
of the season has to be the new Bocce court that
so many individuals gave of their time and hard
work to see to completion. Thanks to our club for
the finances to make it happen. If any club mem-
bers are interested in joining in the fun of Bocce
and possibly participating in league play you are
welcome to come to the courts on Wednesday af-
ternoon at 1:00 PM and participate in competition
with other players who will be happy to show you
everything you need to know to enjoy the sport.
Special thanks goes to Ken Marston, Rex Eichel-
berger and everyone else who donated their time
to keep the courts in tip top shape. Have a won-
derful, healthy summer. I hope to see all of you in
the fall. Think Bocce!!!
TENNIS by Brenda Waterbury
April, and the tennis courts are still busy.
All of the formally organized activities are com-
pleted but the open tennis continues enthusiasti-
cally. As many of the our players leave for the cool
north, time for play on Mondays, Wednesdays and
Fridays is more relaxed. Ladies, please check with
the male tennis players to see how many are play-
ing at 8:00. They may wish to have the women
join them as numbers of players decrease.
Looking back, we had a great season – lots of
good play, lots of fun, lively social activities, the
popular Friday afternoon mixed doubles, and the
annual, challenging three vs three tournament run
by Nancy and John Switchulis and the always suc-
cessful Pot Luck Banquet. Thanks to all the Travel
team players who gave their best and represented
the Edgewater Club so well. Members of the wom-
en's Travel Team in 2017 were: Ruth Hybel
(Captain), Linda Annunziello, Marilyn Benn, Mar-
garet Bennett, Janet Calderon, Lisa Callie, Tucky
Dube, Beryl Fournier (co-captain), Irmgard Gierl,
Wendy Hyman, Lynn LaBranche, Anne Overdulve,
Brenda Peach, Nancy Switchulis and Brenda Wa-
terbury. Members of the Men's Travel Team for
this year were: Adrian Overdulve (Captain), John
tennis cont.
Annunziello, Frank Canonico, Jeff Cleveland, Bill
Green, Gus Gutermann, Wayne Helson, Mel Hy-
man, Larry Keys, Bob Kurkiewicz, Dennis
LaBranche and Rolf Rummel. Best wishes to all of
our community for a safe and healthy summer.
Rummage Sale by Cheryl Miller
The 2017 Edgewater Club Rummage Sale
has taken place and was a win-win for all!! This
year’s sale netted a profit of $3,872.96 to our
club!!! A successful project requires help of many,
many dedicated volunteers…our Rummage Sale is
no exception!! This sale could not be such a suc-
cess without the almost 100 volunteers and their
hard work and dedication. I would like to thank
everyone who volunteered their time and assis-
tance – those residents who gathered and stored
items before the sale, Gary Miller and his crew for
pick-ups and deliveries, the Men’s Club for the
great lunch, Hal Neubauer for setting up the sound
system that helped me encourage customers to
purchase and announce special deals, those who
donated baked goods (everything sold out again
this year), our cashiers and packers and Rita
Deguire and Marcia Neubauer who gathered and
tallied the money. I’d also like to send special
thanks to the heads of each department – these
leaders do a fabulous job and give 110% to sell
merchandise. Many, many thanks to everyone
involved in the set up and the day of the sale.
Every department did a wonderful job – displays,
sales inside and outside, pack-up and clean up.
Hopefully, I have not forgotten anyone!!! I look
forward to the 2018 sale which will take place Sat-
urday February 17, 2018.
VEGAS NIGHT
By John Switchulis
A big THANK YOU to all who helped with this
year’s Vegas Night: the chip counters, the ticket
printer, the solicitors for door prizes, and the peo-
ple who donated door prizes. We also had those
who worked the Vegas Night: the dealers, the
kitchen help, the tickets takers, the organizers,
the people who set up and the people who broke
down the equipment and tables after it was over.
Special thanks goes to my right hand man who
helped unload and put back heavy items, repaired
items and did numerous things to help. You know
who you are and I hope you know how much you
are appreciated!

HIGH TEA AT TIFFANY’S by Nancy Fournier, Chair & Nancy Kramer, Co-Chair
Our annual spring fashion show “HIGH TEA AT TIFFANY’S” was
held on March 9th. According to the 209 surveys we received
from attendees it was a huge success. Doors opened at 10:15
am for shopping in our Tiffany Boutique which featured jewelry,
cosmetics, purses, hats and neck massages. There were 240 at-
tendees at the Edgewater Club’s first high tea/fashion show. High
Tea included an assortment of tantalizing teas served in our
treasured teacups, proper English scones with scrumptious
strawberry jam, and an array of savory tea sandwiches and
delightful miniature desserts. Less than 1% was not delighted
with the bill of fare. Our Edgewater models, Margaret Bennett,
Grace Briscoe, Bev Grotrian, Jane Jones, Marcella Ralph and Jan
Schneider wore new spring fashions from Chico’s Outlet in North
Port where “fabulous fashion meets extraordinary value”. Many
of you expressed disappointment that the clothing was not avail-
able on site. It is becoming increasing difficult to find stores will-
ing to do fashion shows and unfortunately, Chico’s cannot bring
items to sell but they did offer a fashion show discount if you
visit their location and spent a certain amount. We had 65 door
prizes from local merchants and restaurants and as well as our
annual cash raffle drawing. Based on your surveys, attendees
placed a great deal of emphasis on fewer door prizes and more specialty prizes for our charity raffle next
year. The charity raffle, which is now an annual event at the fashion show, was Project Phoenix of Eng-
lewood and their website is (http://www.ProjectPhoenixEnglewood.com/). There were eight spe-
cial donations for this raffle. Gifts were donated by Englewood Hospital, Sharon Baczynski, Donna But-
land, Dana Tyler Travel Jewelry, Josephine Salon and Spa, Lock and Key Restaurant, Massages by Chris-
tina, and Dee Dee Quinn – Mary Kay. We were able to raise $750 to present to Project Phoenix. Bobbie
Jo Burton, founder and director, said this was the largest single donation they have ever received. We
wish to thank everyone involved for contributing to this worthwhile cause. Many thanks to committee
members Arlene Cleveland, Diane Collin, Bonnie Hartman, Cathy Levine, Lisa MacDonald, Cheryl Miller
and Debbie Sulesky who spent many hours working on the little details to make this event a success.
ITECH NEWS by Margaret Bennett
Ginny Wilkins has provided me with the following information which I want to share with all the Apple
Device users. The EAMUG (Englewood Area Mac Users Group) meets upstairs at Elsie Quirk library on
Dearborn Street year round. On the first Thursday of the month at 1:30pm there are presentations and
on the second Thursday the SIG (Special Interest Group) provides individual help with devices such as
the iPhone and iPad from 2-4pm. The Group also publishes an online newsletter which has tips for Mac
users. All are welcome. Bring questions and, if you are knowledgeable, be willing to share or help.
Membership is $12 per year but guests may try it out for free. There is a local person named Mike Par-
shall (941-915-5553) who will come to your home in the Englewood area to help with Mac-computer is-
sues. He is Apple-certified, an answer for those who don't want to drive to the Apple stores in Sarasota,
Estero or elsewhere. He comes highly recommended. For those of you using PCs, the Englewood Com-
puter Group also meets at the Elsie Quirk Library on the first and third Tuesday of the month through
June. The group leader is very willing to help you with your computer problems. He also does work on
individual computers that need to be set up or cleaned up. There is a one time membership fee but you
may attend a session as a guest to check it out. Also check out the Tringali Library. They also offer
assistance. I am here through April so you may still email or call me for help Don’t you just love all this
technology!!!!

LEMON BAY ISLES HOMEOWNERS by Cheryl Miller
April is here and soon many of us will be heading to our northern homes. We held our
last homeowners' meeting of this season on March 15; a total of 31 homes were repre-
sented. Refreshments were served; it was very nice to have residents linger and talk
with the Board and among themselves. The Board is very appreciative of our residents'
interest in the governing of our community and thanks everyone for their participation
this season. At this meeting the Board recognized Sara Murphy for spearheading, coordinating and giv-
ing many, many hours to the Beautification Committee; our entrance is a testament to all her hard work
and dedication. That being said, Sara has chosen to step back from the Committee, and as requested
by the Beautification Committee, we now have a representative of the Board heading up the Mainte-
nance Committee. In order to assist Ralph in his endeavors, we are asking for a resident to work with
him as a Volunteer Coordinator. This person would work closely with Ralph to obtain volunteers as
needed to maintain our entrance area. Ralph's first project was to obtain a cost to revamp the entrance
electrical service; this has been completed. The Board requested and was granted the approval up to
$2,500 to overhaul the watering system at Island #1. Ralph will be obtaining bids for this work over the
summer months, and if this project can be accomplished for $2,500 or less, the work will be done. If
the bids exceed the $2,500 approval, it will come before the membership in the fall. The by law com-
mittee continues to work on revising our bylaws – our goal is to bring these before the membership next
season. We continue to stress the speeding issue on Oriole Blvd –the Charlotte County traffic depart-
ment has been contacted and our ideas of a temporary speed detection trailer, increased patrols, speed
bumps, painting the speed limited on the pavement, lowering the speed limit to 20 mph and perhaps
even solar speed signs was passed on to the traffic sergeant. Another issue of concern of our residents
is in regards to our pets – please be respectful of others properties (if you walk your fur baby on a long
leash, please do not allow them into yards or let them relieve themselves on landscaping, etc.), be sure
to pick up after your pet, and if your dog is off your property, they must be on a leash (this is a Char-
lotte County law and also in our deed restrictions). Please travel safely on your way back North. For
everyone, take care – and for those residents remaining here at LBI, please stay well and enjoy “our lit-
tle piece of paradise”. We look forward to being together again later this year.
