The SGSN 2009A is the latest Ericsson SGSN product release, building on the previous SGSN by adding the new and advanced features. The objective is to continue to focus on improving the signaling capacity and handling, Mobile Broadband, as well as Minimizing SGSN TCO (Total Cost of Ownership).

Evolved Packet Core (EPC) Overview

Description

Evolved Packet Core (EPC) is part of the Evolved Packet System (EPS) that provides packet data services to mobile communication. EPS is the evolution of GSM and WCDMA GPRS technology. The EPC nodes provide the interconnectivity from RAN nodes (eNodeB) to external Packet Data Networks (PDNs).

This course provides an introduction to the EPC infrastructure and services nodes and the benefits of EPC with reference to end user services. The user plane and signaling plane are described from an end-to-end perspective. Network features such as Access Point Names (APNs), IP connectivity, Bearers and QoS are also explained.

CPG 2009B Overview

Description

The ever increasing demand for packet data services has created the need for the core network to support higher capacity and throughput figures. In response to this need, a new core network implementation known as the Enhanced Packet Core (EPC) has been developed. The EPC is designed to provide increased throughput, reduced latency and an improved end user experience.

The Converged Packet Gateway (CPG) is a node within the EPC. The CPG provides a solution focused on convergence of packet data services from various access networks and optimization of user plane throughput and capacity.

This course provides a general overview of the CPG and the role that it plays in the network.

The Evolved Packet System (EPS) architecture defines a Mobility Management Entity (SGSN-MME 2009B) node, which contains Core Network control functionality. Description

Do you need to understand how to configure the Serving GPRS Support Node routing protocols, encapsulation and quality of service? Do you need to know how the GPRS nodes (SGSN/GGSN) can communicate if they are in different geographical locations? Description

Service Aware Charging and Control or more commonly known as SACC extends the GGSN functionalities to perform just that; charging and control of traffic based on the type and class of services. This functionality enables the GGSN to function more powerfully in terms of charging and providing better services towards the end customer.

With the update of both the GGSN 2009 on the M20/M120 hardware platform and the SACC to version 5.0, this learning product trains engineers on the aspects of configuration of features such as packet inspection, service classification, charging groups and others.

Description

This course will provide participants with an insight into and an understanding of the TCP / IP protocol stack from the physical layer to the application layer.
