President’s Message
Dear PRBC Members and Friends:
After a bit of a sabbatical, your club officers and di-
rectors are very pleased to bring to you a brand new
PRBC newsletter to keep you up to date on our club
activities.
As you know, the club’s major initiative in 2011 was
to host the American Bloodhound Club National
Specialty, and we congratulate co-chairs Stacey Pol-
er and Marie Taylor in successfully accomplishing
this huge task. This year, we have re-focused the
club on a variety of smaller, but no less important,
initiatives. Read on to find out more!
As always, we would love to have your comments,
ideas, and suggestions for improvement. We look
forward to hearing from you.

New PRBC Members
PRBC is happy to welcome the following new members
to the club, whose membership now totals 25!
Tim and Sherry Robertson hail from Salinas, Cali-
fornia, and Sherry is president of Bloodhounds
West, Northern Chapter. The owners of four blood-
hounds, they are active in trailing, showing, search
and rescue, and breed rescue. Sherry served as auc-
tion and raffle chair for the 2011 ABC National
Specialty hosted by PRBC and was auction/raffle
chair for PRBC’s 2012 regional specialty.
New members Jan Stallings and Patsy Hall live in
Phoenix, Arizona, and are our most far-flung mem-
bers geographically. Jan has been in bloodhounds
for eleven years and has been active in showing,
obedience, and trailing. She joined us at this year’s
regional and did a super job as stand-in photogra-
pher for our specialty winners when the breed
judge’s schedule went awry. Jan and Patsy have
four bloodhounds.
New members Randy and Anne Greenlee are from
Stockton, California, and are members of the North-
ern Chapter of Bloodhounds West. They have two
bloodhounds, are active in showing and trailing, and
have been in the breed for five years. Randy joined
us for PRBC’s 2012 regional; the Greenlees’ puppy
Morgan was Grand Sweepstakes Winner on Satur-
day and Winner’s Dog on Sunday. Not to be out-
done by the bloodhound focus, Anne Greenlee is a
long-time breeder of Maine coon cats.
PRBC is especially pleased to welcome
new members Alberto Mercado and Alma
Salmoran of Renton, Washington. Alberto
and Alma have just adopted ‘Luther’ from
PRBC Rescue. As new adoptive owners, they will
receive a complimentary, one-year membership to
PRBC.
Notes from Previous PRBC Board Meetings
Keep up to date with what’s going on with PRBC! Notes from
previous PRBC board meetings (2011 and 2012) are now

This year’s regional specialty, held in conjunction with the
Olympic Kennel Club shows on August 18th and 19th in
Enumclaw, brought together friends and hounds from Washing-
ton, Oregon, and California for a great weekend of fun and
showing. Breed judges Mr. Gary Doerge (Saturday) and Dr.
Carol White-Moser (Sunday) and sweeps judge Ms. Joan Sav-
age had a very nice entry of 14 bloodhounds ranging from 11
months old to nearly 14 years young!

In puppy sweepstakes, Randy Greenlee’s M&M’s Price of
Freedom (‘Morgan’) and Sheri and Tim Whetstine’s The Ritz’
Perfect Storm of Nunya (‘Ruckus’) brought home the trophies
for Grand Winner (Morgan) and Best Junior (Rukus) in sweep-
stakes.
Randy Greenlee and Morgan
Sheri Whetstine and Ruckus
Sweeps’ veterans were ably represented, with Frank and Tina
Kocar’s CH. Huggables American and Proud (‘Farmer’) and
Dave Lockridge’s CH. Yahoo’s New Year Celebration
(‘Celine’) winning Best Dog and Bitch in veteran sweeps. In
the regular classes, Celine’s daughter Yahoo’s Irish Florin
(‘Florin’) joined the winner’s circle, winning Best Veteran
Bitch on Saturday.

championship points earned for Jim Nelson’s new champion
The Magpie’s Mister Wonderful (‘Flash’, who finished on Sat-
urday with a three-point major and a BOS), Randy Greenlee’s
Morgan, Winner’s Dog for two points on Sunday, and Jason
and Lisa McCall’s Badgershill Emily Bronte (‘Emily’), shown
by Sherry Robertson, who took Best of Winners both days for a
three-point major on Saturday and a two-point win on Sunday.

Pet Expo will be Friday through Sunday, November
2, 3 and 4, 2012, at the Puyallup Fairgrounds. Hours
are Friday afternoon, Saturday 10-7, and Sunday 10-
6. Janis Hardy is heading up this event and requests
volunteers (humans and their bloodhounds) to staff
the booth in shifts during all show hours. We were
unable to participate last year because we were una-
ble to cover the booth one day.
Meet the Breed events such as the Pet Expo, which is
held outside of a dog show venue, provide a great
opportunity for public education. We believe that
PRBC should participate in at least one Meet the
Breed event annually. Other upcoming Meet the
Breed venues include the Tualatin Valley Kennel
Club and the Portland Kennel Club in January 2013.
If you are available to support this public-education
event, please contact Janis Hardy at 425-888-4835 or
Kiss and Tell (‘Kiss’), owned by Susan LaCroix and Heather
Whitcomb, got the nod for BOB, with Huggables Hollywood
Nights (‘Hollywood’), owned by Tina Kocar and Tammy Wirth
and shown by Katie Cole, winning BOS. GCH. CH. Hound-
walkers Elphaba Moon Rising (‘Elphie Moon’), owned by
Michele Rockwell and Judy Walker, was awarded Select Bitch,
and Farmer (Kocar), Celine (Lockridge), and CH. Yahoo’s
Pearl Necklace (‘Pearl,’ owned by Dave Lockridge and shown
by Cindy Wolfrom) won Awards of Merit.

Congratulations to all the winners and their humans! We hope
to see all of you next year at PRBC’s 2013 regional specialty.
PRBC Past President Becky Irving brought out her beautiful
Clara for her showing debut at the regional.
Clara was a little ambivalent about the whole showing concept,
and Becky was awarded ‘Most Abused Handler” at the show!
Pet Expo And
Meet the Breed
May 28th, 2012, Memorial Day will
forever be a day I will never forget. Part
of my heart and soul was taken that day
as my hero “Brodie” (Ch. Nunya Or Ida
Rathr B Trakin, MT) lost his battle with
cancer and passed away quietly in my
arms.
Brodie spent most of his 7 ½ years at the
end of my 30’ lead following the trails
of those who were lost or endangered.
His love of the trail was only thing that
kept him going during his struggle with
the terrible disease. Named “Hero” of the year in 2011 by the
Oregon Veterinary Medical Association, Brodie had over 90
missions in his career that included several walk up finds. He
loved his public and they loved him. He could be heard baying
at any given PR event calling in those who had not yet had the
chance to meet him. On the trail there wasn’t a passerby who
didn’t stop to watch him methodically work out the intersection,
and the intensity in his work increased as more spectators and
police car lights appeared.
Brodie, you knew how special you were and how many were in
awe of you. You were an incredible, gentle soul that had not a
mean bone in your body. You will forever be missed, my big
boy. You taught me all I ever needed to know about patience
and compassion. You were my “one,” and I can only hope that
all those who follow can have your love for the trail.
Forever your partner — Becky

Rescue Update August 2012
Rescue currently has five bloodhounds in its care.
Janis Hardy is willing to take one of the younger
males, Fitz, after Labor Day for evaluation purposes
and to foster for a while.
In other news, Rescue Director Dr. Sonnya Crawford
would like to apply for a separate 501-C-3 for res-
cue. With this status, rescue would be eligible to re-
ceive grants, sell items on e-bay and other websites
for fundraising purposes, receive tax-deductible do-
nations, and be eligible for matching funds.
Would you like to be involved with the rescue oper-
ation, either as an adopter or as a foster parent?
Contact either Sonnya or Suzi Paine
([email protected] or [email protected]).
More information about hounds currently in PRBC
rescue can be found on PetFinder.com.
Board Nominations For 2013-15
Because of a recent mid-term change of officers/
directors, there has been some discussion regarding
how to go forward and get the election cycle
(electing officers one year, then directors the next
year) back on track.
Because all the current acting and elected board of-
ficers are willing to stay in office for one more year,
this year’s nominating committee will be nominating
the three directors for two-year terms.
The nominating committee consists of Stacey Poler,
chair, Tim Whetstine, Heather Richards, and Jill
Dingle as the alternate. The slate of nominees will be
presented to the members by October 15th for vot-
ing. Any PRBC member is welcome to nominate
another PRBC member for office if that person is
willing to run. Contact Stacey Poler
([email protected]) for more information.
Upcoming PRBC and Bloodhound Events
Upcoming PRBC and bloodhound events in 2012
and the first half of 2013 are:
PRBC’s Next General Membership Meeting:
Because four of PRBC’s officers/directors don’t
live in western Washington, getting together can
pose a challenge. Enter technology! Between

bers are welcome to call in. Watch your email
for details as they become available.
Pet Expo / Meet the Breed: Friday afternoon
through Sunday, November 2, 3 and 4, 2012, at
the Puyallup Fairgrounds. Volunteer humans and
bloodhounds are needed!

ident’s Day weekend, February 16, 17, and 18,
2013, in the Salinas/Gonzales, CA area, pending
