Okapi(Okapi Johnstoni)

~Fast Facts~

•About 5 ft at maturity•Males weight from 440

- 660 pounds •Females weight from

495 - 770 pounds•Matures at 2 - 3 years

Even thought this animal looks like a zebra or even a cantaloupe, the okapi is related to

the giraffe. The okapi can be found in tropical rain forest such as the Semliki forest in Africa. The life span is 20 - 30 years, which seems like a long time, but

they are ENDANGERED! Their main predator is the leopard. Okapi try their best to escape by living in dense jungles. In these jungles, there are many different species of animals and that means the okapi will need

some space. It doesn't need some crazy 6 mile territory or anything like that. It needs

just enough for a bedroom.

(: Fun Fact :)The okapi’s tongue is long enough to clean it’s

eyes and ears!!!

Indian

RhinocerosRhinoceros unicornis

Female Indian rhinos have home ranges covering 9 - 15 sq km (3.5 - 5.8 sq mi). Ranges of breeding males in Chitwan, Nepal varied from at least 2 - more than 8 sq km (0.8 - 3.1 sq mi). The range can be temporarily enlarged when food and water supplies are low.  Conversely, ranges are smallest in the regions of greatest vegetational diversity.

Alluvial plain is the primary and preferred habitat. Adjacent swamp and forest areas are also used.

Range&habitat

Both male and female R. unicornis have a single dark horn on the nose measuring up to 529 mm, which is made from agglutinated hairs. Their skin has many loose folds, especially distinct around the neck region in males, which give the appearance of a suit of armor. The skin is covered with large tubercules.

Around 2,400 individuals

about knee high and wont hurt you. it eats fruits, plants, and bark off of the trees. This animal is very social and

spends 30% of its time socializing. They are very protective over their mates

and young.

This lemur is part of the endangered species list. There is only 3000 left in the wild and only 4000 in captivity. About 5 years ago there was 20000 in the wild and

5000 in captivity. Because of deforestation and hunting this animals population is going down more and more

each month.

The scientific name for theRing-tailed Lemur is the

Lemur Catta. The Lemur Catta usually live in packs of 5-25 lemurs

White Handed GibbonHylobates Lar

Height- 25 inchesWeight- 14 poundsAverage life span-44 years in captivity25 years in the wild

The diet of the White Handed Gibbon includes fruit, which makes up 50% of their diet, but they also feed on leaves, insects, flowers, stems and buds. They have several adaptations for feeding. One of them is brachiating locomotion, which involves swinging from branch to branch by their arms. This style of motion allows them to reach the edge of the tree canopy, where most of their food is found. Other adaptations include high cusps on their back teeth to help grind plant matter, and a gut adapted for a folivorous diet.

The White handed Gibbon can be found in various countries. They include Burma, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Sumatra, Thailand. Within these countries they like to live in the tropical rain forest, semi deciduous forests, and tropical evergreen forests.

Fun Facts:• To help find a mate, the white

handed gibbon duets with one another.

• These apes have no tail and their arms are longer than their legs.

GIRAFFESGiraffa Camelopardis

Giraffes can be found in their natural habitat

in the Savannas of Africa.

This is one of the only places where giraffes

can be found. The 16-19 foot tall

animal can weight from 1700 to 4200 pounds at their adult weight.

Giraffes are conservation

dependent on the endangered species

list. Not many animals try to take down

giraffes. Giraffes are very social animals

when within its own group of species. They

stop to feed frequently, and only get about an hours

worth of sleep.

Color consists of white, brown, and tannish.

Gorillas, the largest of the living primates, and are herbivores that inhabit the forests of Africa.

Gorillas are divided into two species and ( either four or five subspecies. The DNA of gorillas is

97%–98% identical to that of a human, and they are the next closest living relatives to humans after

the two chimpanzee species.

Gorillas live in tropical or subtropical forests. Although their range covers a small percentage of Africa, gorillas cover a wide range of elevations. The Mountain Gorilla inhabits the Albertine Rift montane cloud forests of the Virunga Volcanoes, ranging in altitude from 2225 to 4267 m (7300-14000 ft). Lowland Gorillas live in dense forests and lowland swamps and marshes as low as sea level.
