P4 2nd Annual Charity Golf Tournament at Chuck Corica Golf Course in Alameda

On April 23, 2011, The Partnership for Pre-Professional Pilipinos (P4) held their SecondAnnual Charity Golf Tournament at Chuck Corica Golf Course in Alameda. All proceeds went towards Filipino Advocates for Justice (FAJ), a local organization established in 1973 aimed at promoting social justice and building a strong and empowered Filipino community. The event was a big success, with over fifty players participating in our event, including various Calstudents, Cal alumni, and professionals from around the Bay Area. Sponsors of the event included Cal students, Cal alumni, as well as businesses from all around the area. The Partners of P4 spent the en-tire year planning and organizing the event. In total, we made $3,200 for our beneficiary, FAJ. It served as a great way to get students and alumni together again for a friendly game of golf, while being able to serve our community and contribute to charity.

Moment P4 Life Banquet Celebrates P4’s 10 Years of Existence

On April 30, 2011, 10 years worth of P4 alumni, members, and memories filled the room of Trader Vic’s Restau-rant to celebrate P4’s 10th Anniversary. What made the night complete was the presence of two of P4’s found-ers, Mike Suyat and Jasper Cacanata. They shared their experience with P4 and were proud to see how much the organization has grown and how much it has achieved in the past 10 years. The night was comprised of great food, great p4mances, and great company. We were all proud to be a part of this legacy. Congratulations P4 and hears to 10 more years!

Ashley VillanuevaMedia Studies | 2nd year

Post college plans: After college, I hope I have the opportunity to travel around the world. I hope to someday end up in sports marketing.

Pre-Professional Tip: Never be late. Plan your outfit the night before and budget your time so that you’re 10 min-utes early.

Favorite place to kick it with friends (in Berkeley): I don’t really care where I kick it, as long as my company’s good. In the past, I’ve had some good times at the 2010-2011 P4 space: The Barber-shop.

Song you have been listening to a lot lately: The 500 Days of Weezy soundtrack.

A movie is being made about your life, who do you want to play you? Vanessa Hudgens.

As Co-Director of PR/Marketing, what are your goals for P4 in this 2010-2011 school year? The year has already come to an end, but I feel like I’ve accomplished much of my begin-ning goals. For instance, I began the first volune of the newsletter, updated the alumni database, and created the posi-tion for the first P4 representative with my Co.

A Note from the Upcoming Executive Director:

I’m very excited to be P4’s Executive Director next year. Hopefully next year’s Partners and I will be able to expand upon all the great events that Diamond Edition Core held. This past year we celebrated P4’s 10th Anniversary. I re-ally hope that the Partners and I will start off P4’s second decade with a bang and set up the organization for further success in the future.

-Matthrw Galang

A Note from the Current Executive Director:

Where has the time gone? It seems like just yesterday that the other Partners and I came together for the first time looking forward to the year ahead. But I guess as they always say, all good things must come to an end. This year has been quite an experience and I am honored to have served as the Executive Director of such an esteemed organization. In addition to being a part of an organization celebrating its 10th anniversary I am also proud of what we have accomplished in so little time. From the business social, our 2nd Annual Charity Golf Tournament, legal clinics, law school visits, to the development of our As-sociates; this year has been a success. I have nothing but the utmost confidence in next year’s Executive Director, Matthew “Gmatt” Galang. He has constantly proven his dependability as a Partner and passion towards the organization. Along with next year’s incoming core, P4 is being left in good hands. And so comes the end of the year. I am truly grate-ful for the experiences and friendships I have forged. They will stay with me beyond college. I have enjoyed my two years being involved with P4. Its been a blast and I want to wish everyone nothing but the best during the rest of your time here at Cal and all of your future endeavors.
