    PNEUMATIC LOGIC CONTROL SYSTEMSOverview

ADVANTAGES OF PNEUMATIC LOGIC CONTROL SYSTEMS

Identical "supply" and "control" system power requirements

Highly recommended for explosive, magnetic, or dusty ambient

    conditions

Enhanced safety in damp or humid environments.

LOGIC ELEMENTS AND RELAYSProgram sequencer modules are completed by a homogeneous series of logicelements (providing four basic functions AND, OR, YES, and NOT), as well as othercomponents (consisting of timer relays, amplifiers, single pulse generator, solenoidvalves, etc.). All of these components have an identical interface and are installedon single or joinable subbases.

OR element AND element YES element

    PROGRAMME SEQUENCER MODULES

The program sequencer is particularly suitable for solving automationcontrol problems. It is truly the "brain", receiving information from thevarious sensors and then giving orders to ensure correct sequencing in atotally safe way. This modularity-engineered equipment accommodates awide range of diverse phase modules in an integrated wiring scheme. Each phase of a cycle corresponds to a module of the program sequencer. The figure to the right shows how control device-machine dialogue isaccomplished. In each phase, the program sequencer gives the order toexecute the programmed movement and then in turn receives the end-of-phase control signal allowing transition to the next phase.

Program sequencer module with maintained reset

Principle of operation is to ad-vance step-by-step through theprogram sequencer via controlpulses to even-stepped inputsalternately with those to odd-stepped inputs.Used on a transfer machine, forexample, to shift "bad component"information from a test station "n"steps further to the reject station.

Each module has three logicfunctions (Memory, AND, andOR), which may be configuredinto different combinations toperform specific operations.Memory is used to activate outputand prioritize the reset signal.AND is used to move from onemodule to another.OR is used to reset previousmodules.

OPERATION (see schematics and graph opposite)A signal at port 4 causes the spool to move. Pressure is applied through input port 2 tooutput port 3 (S1). A signal at port 7 moves the spool back, setting port 3 to exhaust. If signals 4 and 7 are simultaneously present, the equipment is designed to givepriority to return signal 7. .

MAINTAINED RESET : in case of an input pressure failure, a brake system stops thespool in the position where it is. When pressure is reapplied, the cycle resumes from this

position.RESET TO ZERO : in case of an input pressure failure, an automatic reset system movesthe spool back to the rest position.

TRANSITION FUNCTIONSThe various types of autpmation requiredifferent sensor devices (see table to right).Control information indicating movementare complete is signaled to the sequencervia the transition functions. These transition fuction logic elements fitdirectly on the sequencer, significantlyreducing wiring and size of the pneumaticlogic control system.
