It is almost 5 years since a public meeting was held in The Boat House to address the issue of lack of adequate parking in Graignamanagh.

A group has now been formed to again raise this issue with Kilkenny County Council and local politicians. The new footpaths and cables

being put underground have improved the Main St visually but unfortunately in the process many parking spaces were removed.

If the town is to progress or at least not go backwards additional car parking is essential.

In the coming weeks we will engage with local politicians and Kilkenny County Council and then call a public meeting to report our

progress.

Bishop Whelan Memorial Tournament. Congratulations to Rathnure the Cup winners who defeated Graignamanagh after extra time in what was a very entertaining game of hurling in Dr. Tierney Park on Sunday evening. It went right down to the wire and the Graig boys were so unlucky to lose out. St Mullins won the Shield final defeating Burrin Rangers and many congrats to them also. The Tournament was a great success thanks to Brendan Savage, John Byrne and Jerry Cosgrave. A special word of thanks to Mary Whelan who presented the Cup, to Ann Phelan and to Rackard who was present with The McCarthy Cup. Thanks Rackard for making the time to attend we know you are a busy man at present.Update on the wall: The wall is close to completion at the moment and it has already added greatly to the appearance of the area and is warmly welcomed by the local residents. The fence on top is the next stage to be completed and should be done in the next two weeks. There was a large attendance at the Bishop Whelan finals and parking was greatly improved. Results: Well done to both our Junior & Jun B teams who recorded victories over Mooncoin last weekend. The Juniors had a much improved performance which helped them to their first points of the League and it was a good boost to get that win. Thanks to the Rower/ Inistioge Club for the use of their facilities while our own are out of use. The win for the Jun B’s entitles them to contest the Joe Walsh Cup Final in the coming weeks.

Thanks to everyone who took part in the swimming this year, to all the parents who were so patient and helpful at the river. Thanks to Joan, Noreen and Rebecca for all their hard work done behind the scene, organizing, sorting forms for everyone. Also a big thank you to Liz Doherty and Breda Kelly who also helped out on the week at short notice, their help was invaluable. Thanks girls.
