06. Passato prossimo
passato prossimo = the “near” past (proximity)
e.g. ieri, stamattina, la settimana scorsa, due ore fa
…… sono andato al cinema…… ho fatto colazione
FYI There is another past tense, the passato remoto (remote past), which is more literary / historical / more southern Cristoforo Colombo andò in America nel 1492.

avere (most cases, all

essere (mostly movement)
GENERAL RULE
-are -> -ato-ere -> -uto-ire -> -ito
but there are IRREGULARS
Passato prossimo is a “compound tense” (consists of two words, components)
avere is used for transitive verbs
"transitive" are verbs that (can) have a direct object
ho mangiato (una pizza)
examples of intransitive verbs are “to stay,” “to die” (you cannot die something)
