Twenty First Sunday of Ordinary Time Reflection: John 6:60-69
"This saying is hard; who can accept it?" The words of Jesus' disciples in today's
Gospel must sound familiar. At some point in our lives, you and I have said it about
some article of our faith. Christianity makes firm demands on our ethical behavior
and gives no easy answers for suffering. Many disciples were confused and dismayed
by Jesus' words in the Bread of Life Discourse. Not all of them, however, had the
same reaction.
When the disciples question Jesus' teaching, he confirms its truth. "The words I have
spoken to you are spirit and life." For some, Jesus' reassurance was not enough. These
disciples do not question Jesus further or wrestle with their lack of understanding. The
mighty deeds Jesus has done fade to the background. "Many of his disciples returned
to their former way of life and no longer accompanied him." For them, their doubt
proves too much.
Jesus turns to the Twelve, knowing that confusion lives in their hearts as well. Peter
answers. "Master, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have
come to believe and are convinced that you are the Holy One of God." Notice this is
not a confession of perfect understanding. It is a
confession of faith in Jesus. The precise words
may still confuse them, but they believe the One
who said them.
In our own lives, we face doubt, confusion, and
disillusionment in our Christian faith. The same
choice available to the disciples is available to
us. Do you have faith in Jesus, even when you
lack perfect understanding? Will you stay or will
you go? What do you do with your doubt?
Prayer for Pope Francis
Lord, source of eternal life and truth, give to Your shepherd, Pope Francis,
a spirit of courage and right judgement, a spirit of knowledge and love.
By governing with fidelity those entrusted to his care may he, as successor to the
apostle Peter and vicar of Christ, build Your church into a sacrament of
unity, love, and peace for all the world.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, Your Son, Who lives and reigns with
You and the Holy Spirit, one God, forever and ever. Amen.

Men, Are You Ready to Accept the Challenge?
Our communities need strong Catholic men to answer the
call to lead with faith, protect our families, serve others and
defend our values.
For over 100 years, Knights of Columbus have done exactly
that, standing up for the church, serving the least among us,
and strengthening our parishes and families.
Eligible Catholic men can now join the Knights of
Columbus online in a simple, streamlined process.
As a member, you join a worldwide community of nearly 2 million men,
including thousands here in Pennsylvania, who stand together. Men have a
duty to lead, protect, serve and defend. The world needs more committed,
unified Catholic men to answer the call. Will you answer? Visit
https://www.kofc.org/apps/newjoin/en/registration/index.html to learn more
about the Knights of Columbus.
Please pray for the
peaceful repose
of the soul of
Jim Monteleone
(Brother of Joe (Josie) Monteleone) who
recently passed away and is enjoying
everlasting life.
Ashley Bauer, the new Principal at
Holy Sepulcher Catholic School, is
a distinguished educator with over
ten years of experience in
education. Her dedication to
student achievement has been a
lifelong commitment. She started
her educational career at Holy
Sepulcher teaching various
subjects across all grade levels
K-8, and spent six years teaching
second grade.
In 2016 Ashley completed her
Masters in Educational Leadership
at Carlow University and received
her PA Principal Certification for
K-12.
Last year she was supporting
students, families, and educational
professionals as the Assistant
Principal here at Holy Sepulcher
Catholic School. Mrs. Bauer has a
Bachelor of Science in Elementary
Education from Slippery Rock
University, 30 continuing education
credits in K-8 Math and Science,
and a Master of Science in Leader-
ship for High- Performance
Learning from Carlow University.
Ashley is a devoted member of the
Holy Sepulcher community. She
has a passion for teaching young
disciples to be Witnesses of
Christ. She has six years
experience preparing second
graders for the sacrament of
Reconciliation and First Holy
Communion.
Ashley Bauer’s educational back-
ground and
personal
experiences
have helped
shape her
philosophy
of education.
Mrs. Bauer
believes that
developing a
strong
Catholic
identity must include a complete
academic curriculum that embodies
our faith in all aspects. She
believes all students are capable of
learning at the highest level
possible and our educational
system will provide our children
with the skills needed to be suc-
cessful in our global economy.
In a welcome back letter to parents
and students, Mrs. Bauer shared,
“I am humbled and proud to be a
part of this community of learning
as your principal. My primary goal
as the new principal is to ensure
that all students are provided with a
safe, rigorous, engaging, and
supportive educational experience.
I look forward to our educational
journey together as a parish and
school community.”

she would love to help children build a relationship with Jesus, so
I have the answer to your desire. I am in need of a catechist and

Catechesis of the Good Shepherd: This program is offered on
Sunday for 3-6 year olds from 9:10a.m. –10:15a.m. It is an
approach to the Faith Formation of children which is rooted in
Scripture, Liturgy and Montessori
educational principles. The purpose
of the CGS is to assist children in the
development of a deep relationship
with God, respecting the child’s
dignity in responding to the soul’s
desire, “Help me to draw myself closer
to God.” If you have not registered
your child/ren yet and wish to do so,
go to ww.holysepulcher.org and use the registration form there.
We begin September 23, 2018.
Twenty-First Sunday in Ordinary Time:
The Gospel shows us the discipleship stuff requires time,
attention, study, and prayer. It invites us into relationships,
service, responsibility, and commitment. It demands over
time that we’re transformed into new people entirely: the
kind who forgive wrongs, aid the poor, welcome the
stranger, love enemies. At what point will we decide, like
some of Jesus’ disciples, following Jesus is asking too much
and return to a way of life that’s easier and leaves more for
us ? Religion is easy. Discipleship is overwhelming.
When did being faithful become more than going to church
and learning to forgive? How far are you will to take this
journey with Jesus?
Faith Formation Classes:
Classes for students will begin on Sunday, September 23, 2018
at 9:10-10:20a.m. If you are interested in helping as an aide or
catechist it would be well to start now to get your clearances. If
you need more information about this, please contact Joanne
Castello at 724-586-7610 or Sister Benita at 724-586-7276.
