Describes Club Plan forGolf Day Contributions

early 20 caddie scholar hip fundhave been r cipi nt of aid from . ationalGolf Day, according to Fr d L. Riggin, r.,pre. of th . rational Golf Fund Inc.,which distribute' to various cau th ~money received from the country' bigg tgolf outing, which" ill be h ld [un Ll th,

ot only has th money ihann I d intothe caddi fuud nabl d thou and ofboys to rec ive college educations but ithas done much to make caddi s avail-able for clubs, Riggin add '.

Since Golf Day v as tart d in 1952.more than $741,000 has b en rai d forgolf projects, golf charitie and nationalwelfare organizations. mong tho thathave benefitted are the gre n section ofthe GA, the GSA, . T ational JuniorChamber of ommerce for conducting itnationwide Junior tournam nt, the m-putee golf organization, Veterans Ho 'pi-tals and the educational, r Ii f and ben-evolent funds of the PGA.

Blanket Club PlanEach year an increasing numb r ol

clubs has b n sending checks to . ationalGolf Day to cover contributions for allmembers. Individual contributions amountto one dollar. Blanket donations for mem-bers by clubs have been becoming mol'popular becaus T ational Golf Day oft nescapes th att ntion of the individual,or it is impossibl for many persons tocompete on the designated date. Yet, the emembers ur desirous of making contri-butions and th club plan is the an wer.

This year, the National Golf Fund hassent to club pre .idents copies of a sugge st-d card which can be sent to m mbers

with dues statem nts.It is recommended that th club use

their own discretion in sending copie ofthe card out. It is also suggested that par-ticipation ill ational Golf Day continuto be kept on a voluntary basis.

In citing th various agencies that ben-efit from ational 01£ Day, Riggin hasemphasized that one of the real needs ofthe game that has b en negl ct d is apension plan for professionals. Funds col-lected so far hav n't been sufficient to es-tablish a program of this kind. Participa-tion ill a plan of this kind by a ufficient-ly larg numb r of club', Riggin declares, might provide the additional revenu s re-quired to set up a solid pro pension plan.

'GlfENS STAYIN GOOD SHAPE

v n during dry spells~'says E. R. JENSEN, Turf Agronomist

Manager, Southern Turf Nurseries,Major Suppliers of Turf Grasses for the South.

erra-LiteMaintains excellent turf

conditions despite poor soilsand unfavorable weather.

Mr. Jensen, whose firm has planted over2000 golf greens since 1955, finds thatTerra-Lite vermiculite makes the mostsatisfactory soil conditioner ... used bothas a top dressing and for building greensand tees.

"Terra-Lite's moisture-holding abilitykeeps greens in good shape," says Mr.Jensen, "even during dry spells. Its highresiliency helps to prevent indentationsmade by planting equipment or by golfcourse personnel!"

Terra-Lite cuts work, saves time. Moreand more superintendents are dependingon it for healthier, more luxurious greens.
