Sangma and has two Sons: Conrad Sangma and James Sangma and two daughters: Agatha Sangma and Christie Sangma.

In 1973, he became Vice-President of the Pradesh Youth Congress in MeghalayaFrom 1975 to 1980 He served as the General Secretary of the Pradesh Congress Committee of MeghalayaIn 1977, he was elected to the 6th Lok Sabha from Tura He served as the Chief Minister of Meghalaya from 1988 to 1990.

In2012 he contested against Pranab Mukherjee for the post of the President.

He founded National People's Party on 6th of January 2013 and they got two MP seats in Meghalaya

prominent• He was jumping around like a monkey too much

from one party to the other and this has ruin his political carrier especially during Presidential election
