OXFORD FASHION WEEK28th FEBRUARY - 6th MARCH, 2011

Carl Anglim has brought fashion to Oxford in a big way. Over the past three years he has created and produced Oxford's !ourishing annual fashion celebration; Oxford Fashion Week.

In this third year of Oxford Fashion Week, there is more going on than there has been for the previous two years combined. Though a fashion ‘week’ in fact it all began on Friday, 18th February, with the opening of the "rst ever exhibition featuring photography captured during the previous two year’s of OFW and the fun doesn’t end until a month later with the Oxford Style Show in partnership with the Macmillan Clothes Extravaganza on Saturday 19th March.

The week featured 16 events, over 100 designers and speakers, 13 runway shows, 24 partners, the lowest ticket prices ever, more free events, fundraising for two charities and hands-on opportunities for hundreds of volunteers.

Fashion reaches and touches every single one of us. What we wear and how we present ourselves constantly communicates who we are to the world. It is the most unavoidable and fundamental form of communication. It is also one of the most exciting, enjoyable and liberating forms of self-expression.

Oxford Fashion Week challenges Oxford to explore fashion, to recognise its depth, to think about its purpose, to engage with its creators, to celebrate its inspirations and to delight in playing with its creations.

In 2011 we challenged Oxford’s fashion, design and creative organisations to be a part of Oxford Fashion Week. Oxford Fashion Week 2011 was the most vibrant, diverse and successful Oxford Fashion Week yet. At the very heart of Oxford Fashion Week 2011 was our mission to produce the most spectacular series of fashion events Oxford has ever seen.

The purpose of Oxford Fashion Week extends beyond the week itself. We are here to connect and strengthen a community of creatives, designers, artists, musicians, models, thinkers, choreographers, retailers, writers, photographers and anyone who has an interest in, or is curious about, fashion. We want Oxford Fashion Week to inspire anyone who is considering pursuing a creative life.

By bringing the community together we hope to provide that spark which causes brilliant ideas to turn into reality. Oxford Fashion Week is not just for industry insiders, it is for everyone who has an interest in fashion and we want everyone to "nd something to be a part of during the week.

THE OXFORD THINKING CAMPAIGNCHARITY PARTNER

The Oxford Thinking Campaign was launched in 2008. Its goal is to secure Oxford’s position as one of the world’s foremost centres of learning by developing a strong philanthropic foundation for the future.

In October 2010 the Campaign announced that it had passed the £1 billion milestone. With a minimum goal of £1.25 billion, the Campaign is supporting academic posts and programmes, students, buildings and infrastructure, making a profound impact upon every element of the University of Oxford.

For those who care deeply about the important role that learning and knowledge can play in our present and future world, there can be no better investment than in the University of Oxford. Every gift regardless of size is received with genuine gratitude and a sense of humility. Each gift adds to the pool of resources from which the University seeks to secure the present and build the future. Each also represents a tangible vote of con"dence in what Oxford has been and what it aspires to be.

Ms Lindsey Davis, Student Support Development Manager at the Oxford Thinking Campaign said: “The University is delighted that current students have, of their own choosing, decided to support future students through the Oxford Thinking Campaign.” She added that it is more important than ever that students are aware of the Campaign and actively fundraising; “philanthropy is vital in helping to obviate the "nancial concerns of current and prospective students.”

MACMILLAN CANCER SUPPORTCHARITY PARTNER

This year Macmillan Cancer Support are celebrating their Centenary, and looking forward to the next 100 years of improving cancer care. Carl Anglim, Executive Producer of OFW said:“OFW are proud to be working alongside Macmillan Cancer Support to help raise money for such a worthy cause.”

The Oxford Fashion Week Style show takes place on 19th March, dispelling the myth of the Oxford Fashion ‘Week’. The show will include back to back run-way shows, featuring hundreds of designs and over 500 attendees – the largest runway event Oxford has ever seen. The Macmillan Clothes extravaganza will run alongside the event, allowing audience members to buy high-end fashion at bargain prices.

Stella Krajewski, Area Fundraising manager for Macmillan Cancer Support says “We are delighted to be working with the team at Oxford Fashion Week to help promote the Clothes Extravaganza and we look forward to having another successful year. There are many reasons why working together makes so much sense, not least the great synergy with the audience we are both attracting to our events. We hope that fashion lovers of all ages will enjoy the experience of shopping for pre-loved and new-to-you bargains and just goes to show how important fashion is in Oxfordshire.”

THE OXFORD MAILMEDIA PARTNER

Oxford Mail was revealed as the "rst of"cial partner for Oxford Fashion Week 2011. The daily newspaper, which is published six days a week and found online at www.oxfordmail.co.uk is one of Oxford’s premiere sources of news and entertainment information.

According to Katherine MacAlister, Entertainment Features and Food Writer for the Oxford Mail, “Oxford is one of the world’s most beautiful, stunning, exciting, elegant and timelessly classic cities, which is why the Oxford Mail is delighted to lend its support to Oxford Fashion Week 2011 - an event committed to using the city itself as its ultimate catwalk. Could there be a better marriage?”  Having the support of the Oxford Mail is sure to make this event even better, and the OFW team is extremely pleased to have Oxford Mail as an of"cial partner.

“I am absolutely thrilled by the support we are receiving from Jeremy Smith, Katherine Macalister and the team at the Oxford Mail,” says Carl Anglim, who is the Executive Producer for Oxford Fashion Week 2011.  “They have always been strong supports of Oxford Fashion Week and it is a pleasure to be working more closely with them for 2011.”

Continuing from last year, Oxford Mail’s engaging coverage of OFW stretches across all our activities, from castings to catwalks. Representing an extensive local readership, Oxford Mail captures the Oxford-based interest of OFW, and the community spirit of our creative endeavour.

The newspaper’s regular updates have helped us to spread the news about Oxford Fashion Week, and have played a key part in generating publicity and inviting Oxford locals to take part in Oxford Fashion Week.

B4 MAGAZINE AND & IN OXFORD MAGAZINE MEDIA PARTNER

The magazine, which is published quarterly, is direct mailed to three thousand business decision makers in Oxfordshire, and is widely regarded as one of Oxfordshire’s leading business publications. B4 stands for ‘Building Bridges Between Business’, and was established to provide Oxfordshire businesses with a clear voice to raise their pro"le, and to help businesses connect.

Building on the success of the printed Magazine, B4 have launched a new website: http://www.b4-business.com/, which is poised to play a growing part in helping local businesses keep in touch with Oxfordshire’s business landscape, with the aim of making Oxfordshire a richer place in which to live and work.

The Editor of B4 Business Magazine, Richard Rosser said: “B4 recognises that OFW is growing year on year and fast becoming a key date in the Oxfordshire events calendar. Mixing business with pleasure, OFW is a perfect "t for B4 where our network enjoys doing business. We wish OFW, the participants, models, committee and supporters every success in 2011 for a great week and we look forward to supporting OFW in 2012.”

FROM THE EXECUTIVE PRODUCER

“Oxford is a fantastic city and it is madness that there was no major fashion festival before we created Oxford Fashion Week in 2009. The last two years of producing Oxford Fashion Week have been thrilling but Oxford Fashion Week 2011 is going to make the previous two years look like trial-runs.

Every year we produce Oxford Fashion Week we can see how much further it can go. This year is no different.

Oxford Fashion Week is able to happen and grow because of the enormous generous support provided by so many in Oxford who have helped to build it and this includes individuals, companies, organizations, media partners, educational institutions and charities. The ‘Oxford’ part in Oxford Fashion Week really means something.

There is nothing more satisfying to me than producing an incredible show that makes people want to come back for more. If guests come away from Oxford Fashion Week delighted, inspired and more creative than when they went in then we will have done our jobs. If designers come away with renewed con"dence, with a recognition of the important role they play in people’s lives every day and with the knowledge that people love their creations then we will have done our job. If Oxford Fashion Week continues to bring together Oxford’s business, creative, educational and media communities and if Oxford Fashion Week again comes away with new partners wanting to be involved then we will have done our job.

Oxford has such a strong community that there is so much potential for Oxford Fashion Week to continue to reach more people that not a day goes by without me re!ecting on how lucky we are have so many great partners involved in OFW who enable us to touch more lives with the delights of fashion. I want people to express themselves during the week, to take risks with how they dress, to be who they want to be and most importantly to have fun with it all.”
