PRESIDENT RICHARD GREEN’S REPORTAtthelastmeetingwehadLindsayMayastheguestspeaker.HeisamemberoftheLaneCoveRotaryClub.Hegaveaveryinterestingtalkthatcoveredonlyasmallnumberoftheexperienceshehashadfrommanyyearsofsailinginoffshoreraces.
AsbothStuartandTedhadreturnedfromlongholidayswewereabletohavethematthemeetingandtorecognise the contributions they have both made to the club.
Wehopetheywillbothbecomeactivefriendsoftheclub.
Inthenextfewyearstheclubwillneedthesupportofthefriendsandpartnersofthe club.
ItwasgoodtoseebothSandyandMegandanumberofpartnersalsoatthemeeting.IreferyoutothemessagestheclubhasreceivedfromStuartandTed.
Atthenextmeetingon9OctoberDuncanLapsleywillcontinuethetalkontheconstructionofBarangaroo.Hewillspeakaboutthehistoryandremediationofthe site.
AlsowewillhaveDrRobertsfromRNSHtogiveusadescriptionoftheheadcoil.Wewillpresentherwithachequefor$15,000onbehalfofthe4rotaryclubs.ThePinkLadieswillcontribute$55,000.Inthefuturewehopewemightbeabletomakeafurthercontribution
WearepresentlylookingforanapplicantforRYLA.IfanyonehasalikelyapplicantcontactIanRobertson(Seepage16formoreinformation).

In1994duringNormGibsonsPresidencyIwasinvitedasaguestspeakertotalkaboutQualityAssuranceandISOaccreditationonwhichIwasfocussedatthetimeandIwasfascinatedbytheeclecticmixofmembersImetincludingGeoffYoungloudandlaughing,WendyPhillipsdoingonearmpushups,ChrisMcullochwhothoughthewasarabbit(orwasitabear?),NormGibsonwhowasjudgeandjury,RichardWilmottringmasterandJohnHammonddoingthehakawhoallseemedtobehavingsomuchfundespitetheirdiversityandcircusbehaviour.
SixyearslaterwhenIretiredIjoinedthegolfclubtolearngolfandtheRotaryclubtolearnthesecretsofsuchmirth.
GolfwasanabjectfailurealthoughIstillenjoyasocialhitbutRotarywasaninstantjoywithsomanynewpeopletomeetandsomanynewthingstolearn.
FortunatelyIdiscoveredsomequietersoulslikeRossSymons,NeilHowie,CliffGarrett,BobClarke,anoldcolleagueinPeterMcKeownandJohnHartley.

PreviousDinnerBulletinshavecarriedthestoryofakidneyorgandonationtothegrandsonofMaurieandDeStack,fromTaree.
AsaformerDistrictGovernor,MaurieisseekingtomobiliseallRotaryClubsinAustraliatourgefamiliestoregisteranddiscusstheirorganandtissuedonationdecisions to help save more lives.
WeareveryfortunatetohaveProfessorO’ConnellasourGuestSpeaker,aninternationalexpertonorgantransplantresearchandonthecriticalneedfororganandtissuedonations.Morethan1,500Australiansarecurrentlyawaitingtransplant treatment.
ProfessorO’ConnellisaProfessorofMedicineattheUniversityofSydney,DirectorofTransplantationatWestmeadHospitalandafoundingDirectoroftheCentreforTransplantandRenalResearchattheWestmeadInstituteofMedicalResearch.
ProfessorO’ConnellisaPastPresidentoftheinternationalprofessionalbody-TheTransplantationSocietyandwasaguestspeakerattheRotaryInternationalConvention in Seoul in May 2016.
HewasamemberoftheAustralianGovernmentOrganDonorTaskForcethatrecommendedtheestablishmentoftheAustralianOrganandTissueAuthoritytooverseeorgandonationinAustralia.Heiscommittedtotheestablishmentofethicalsolutionstotheworldwideorganshortage.
Thisisanidealopportunityforus,ourfamiliesandfriendstohearwhatweneedtoknowaboutmakingadecisionthatmayhelpsavemorelives.

Resolved thatthisConferenceurgesAustralianDistrictGovernorsonanongoingbasistoencouragetheirclubstopromoteDonateLifeWeekeachyearincludingtheissueofapressreleasetotheirlocalmedia.Further resolvedthatthisConferencesetupacommitteewiththetermsofreferenceandmembershipbelow.
Reason for Proposed ResolutionTheOrganandTissueAuthority(OTA)leadstheimplementationoftheAustralianGovernment’snationalprogramforincreasingorganandtissuedonationfortransplantation.
1organ&tissuedonorcansaveandtransformthelivesofmanypeople.Witharound1,400Australianswaitlistedforalife-savingtransplantatanyonetime,andafurther11,000peopleondialysis,thegenerousactoforganandtissuedonationhasafarreachingeffect,changingthelivesofbothtransplantrecipientsandtheirfamilies.
Under the national program introduced in 2009, Australia has doubled the numberoforgandonors&increasedthenumberoftransplantrecipientsby75%;however,ourconsentratehasremainedstableataround60%.
Liftingournationalconsentrateisfundamentaltosavingmorelivesthroughtransplantation.ThiscanbeachievedbyincreasingthenumberofpeopleontheAustralianOrganDonorRegisterandthenumberoffamilieswhoknoweachother’sdonationdecision.
Registrationhasadirectinfluenceonhigherconsentrates.90%offamiliesagreetodonationwhentheirlovedoneisaregistereddonor.Theconsentratedropsto44%whenthedeceasedisnotaregistereddonorandthefamilyhasnopriorknowledgeoftheirwishes.
Currently1in3AustralianshasjoinedtheRegister.RotaryhasanopportunitytopartnerwiththeOTAtoencouragemoreAustralianstoregistertosavelives.
To optimise every potential organ and tissue donation, DonateLife Week, at endofJulyeachyearaimstoencourageAustralianstojointheAustralianOrganDonorRegisterandtosharetheirdecisionwithlovedones.

Effect of ProposedResolutionWe have Rotary clubs in most communities throughout Australia. By those clubs issuingaPressReleasepreparedeachyearbytheproposedcommittee,wecangreatlyincreasethereachofDonateLifeWeek.Wecanthushelptochangethelivesofthosewhoarewaitingdesperatelyforatransplant,whilstenhancingourownnationalimage.

TheRotaryClubofChatswoodIncwascharteredon29July,1948andhasbeencontinuouslyactiveinitscommunitiesforover the last 70 years.
On Friday 30 November 2018,theclubwillbecelebratingits70yearsofRotary.WehaveenjoyedthecompanyoftheChatswoodRotariansatsomeofourmeetingsoverthepastyear,andwhenweattendedtheirmeetingearlierthisyear.
FulldetailsoftheanniversarydinnerwillbeprovidedinduecoursebytheChatswoodClub,butmembersarerequestedtodiarisethedatenowsothatyouwonthaveanyconflictsofcommitmentsifyouintendattendingthedinner.

AtourClub’ssuggestion,CarevanBlacktownsubmittedanapplicationforacommunityfederalgrant.TheprojecthasbeenendorsedbytheGreenwayStrongerCommunitiesProgrammeConsultationCommitteetoproceedwiththeapplicationprocess.
TheapplicationhasgotthroughroundoneandCarevanBlacktownissubmittingmoredetails.TheprojecthasbeenendorsedbytheCommitteetothevalueof$10,000.
IftheyaresuccessfulCarevanBlacktownwillhavesufficientfundstopurchaseanewsecondhandvan.

MUNA 2019 EXPRESSIONS OF INTEREST OPEN TUESDAY 16 OCTOBER
2018 ROTARY CLUB SPONSORSHIP
TheRotaryClubofEppingispleasedtoannouncethatthe2019NorthernSydneyModelUnitedNationsAssembly(MUNA)willbeheldontheweekendof15and16JuneatEppingBoysHighSchool,213VimieraRdEastwood.
ExpressionsofInterestwillopenforschoolswithintheDistrictonTuesday16October, closing Friday 7 December 2018. This program has historically been strongly supported by schools and clubs withintheDistrict.Weinviteyourclubtosponsorastudentteamtoattendthisprestigiousevent,withtheopportunityforthewinningteamtoattendtheNationalMUNA Competition in Canberra in August 2019.
Due to the popularity of the program, the 2019 event will only accept a maximum of TWO (2) teams per school, with a maximum of 44 teams able to participate in MUNA.
