We did it! The Venice Regional Chapter of the Antique Automobile Club of America planned , orchestrated
and executed a colossal car show in downtown Venice on Sunday, February 11, 2018. Every one of the new
ideas, activities and presentations exceeded expectations. We had the largest number of member cars
participate (50+), the largest number of participants (sold out at 297 vehicles), the highest 50/50 raffle, over 70
volunteers helping make the show great and the most importantly, an increase in sponsors, donations and
payments, resulting in a big increase in funds (total amount to be determined later) for the charities.
The amount of support from the Club members was outstanding! They were busy from 5:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
Here is a list of some of the tasks that were performed and the members, friends and family that volunteered.
My apologies in advance to anyone that I left off this list. Tasks: Check in table; Ground crew; Parking
attendants; Class Ambassadors; Registration; Club hosts; Raffle; Appreciation Crew; Vendor Ambassadors;
Judges. Pictures of the show are on page 8 of this newsletter. Submitted by: Wyatt Rinker

WHEW!!! It is finally over, our 30th Annual Car Show. A resounding success in any terms. Where to begin? Thanks to ALL VOLUNTEERS, without you, our
success would not have had the same results. To the committee “ A JOB WELL DONE”. All our Vendors left with smiles on their faces and are requesting larger spots for next year. I have spoken with some businesses on Venice Ave. and Miami and they tell me they experienced record breaking days of 30-40% increase in business over last year for the same day. I believe we saw a remarkable number of visitors to our show as they were elbow to elbow on the show field. I think it is safe to say we surpassed the attendance record set five years ago at our 25th celebration, which according to media pundits was in excess of thirteen thousand people. N-I-C-E!! Our car show fielded 297 show cars, of which 265 were pre-registered vehicles and we had to turn away approximately 30-40 as our event field was filled. Our pre-registration goal was 250 cars and was SOLD OUT two weeks prior to show. The pre-show registration incentive of (2) $100.00 prizes was, I believe, the catalyst needed. The 43 gift baskets were a BIG HIT and were prepared by Lynn Slevin and her team of helpers who knocked it out of the park. The Membership table handled by George Lucyk and Mark Eichner handed out 12 applications for membership, of which one was returned day of show and five on Monday at our general Club meeting. Welcome to our newest Club members! The Club T-Shirts were a big hit and were sold out except for a handful. Judging this year was handled on the curve basis thanks to Vicki Lewis and her helpers Judi Foote, Jan Nubile, Vi Giancola and Bunny Nubile along with our judges. The new judging forms seemed to have cut out a lot of the confusion of past years. Trophy presentation to winners went smooth as silk, 80 trophies in all, 66 to 22 classes of cars and 6 Special trophies: Best of Show Stock; Best of Show Modified; Best Unrestored; Oldest. The Venice Main Street Trophy was presented by Erin Silk on behalf of the business community. The trophy
presentation for the Venice Gondolier was presented by George Nubile – for the newspaper. We had five goals to achieve and managed about 80% of them. SUCCESS!! Now, on to business at hand, our current membership number of families is 137. If your annual dues were not paid by Feb. 15 your name has been dropped from our membership rolls. We have until March 1st to mail our list to AACA for certification. Diane Henderson is Membership Chairperson. You may contact her @ 941-484-1184. Important dates to remember: March 4th, Veterans Salute, Venice
Community Center, Noon – 2:30, need 15 to 20 member’s cars at the event.

Let's keep plugging forward. Some exciting things will be happening this year! Also, REMEMBER! Breakfast on the beach is coming up on April 15th. Be There or be Square! President George C. Owner’s Manual 3 March 2018
HISTORICAL VEHICLE - submitted by Chuck Ford
The AC 428 was
produced from 1965
through 1973 with 81
examples produced,
49 of them were fast-
back coupe's, 29 were
convertibles and 3
were special bodied.
The cars were built on
an AC Cobra 427 Mark III chassis that was
extended by 6 inches. The chassis was built
by AC Cars and then sent to Italy where they
received their coachwork by Frua. After that
work was completed, they were sent back to
England where they were given their power
train and trim.
Completed in March of 1969, this AC 428
Convertible was originally painted dark red.
It came equipped with the optional three-
speed automatic. Probably first delivered to
an English customer, it resurfaced in the
1990s. It was acquired by the current owner
for £34,500 ($48,000) in the Brooks Good-
wood Festival of Speed auction in 1995. In
recent years it was completely restored in
Italy. The breathtaking result could be first
admired at the 2009 Concorso d'Eleganza
Villa d'Este where the car is pictured here.

The Breakfast At The Beach will be held Sunday, April 15. 9-12pm – Catered like last year. Will be held again at Maxine Barrett Park
Most of the evenings event was to talk about the “after-the-fact” February 11th Car Show. Many facts and statistics were presented by Larry
Slevin and Keith Lewis. As there were many financial figures given out, they will not be listed here for insertion into the monthly Owner's
Manual Newsletter. Larry's program was highlighted as a CELEBRATION and focused on the POSITIVE. Simply put, the show was a suc-
cess and met all of the 5 goals set out by the Show Committee. Statements like BEST SHOW EVER were rightfully bantered about.
Here are just a few basic facts for consumption:
53 Club Members Registered
263 Pre-Registered Vehicles
297 Final Number of entrants
8 New sponsors
Financial Goal not only met, but was exceeded
41 Gift baskets were auctioned off
50 Show vehicles had to be turned away due sell out of spaces.
32 Pre-paid NO-SHOWS
70 Club members and friends volunteered for various show duties.
Many food vendors – No problems with amount of food available including downtown Restaurants. Feedback from a couple Venice Avenue
venues was positive with one restaurant mentioning a 40% increase in volume than normal for a Sunday.
There will be future BRAINSTORM sessions to discuss nits, peeves, suggestions, criteria concerning making future shows flow better and
hopefully, to increase revenues. Many lessons were learned during this overflow show on how to handle large crowds. Possible move of show
location, hours, volunteerism, pricing etc. being considered. Input from sponsors, spectators, membership and general public will all be taken
into consideration. Automation a key subject and goal.
Media Reports approximately 13, 000 spectators viewed the event.
Ken Obeshaw provided a beautiful crystal lamp and several works of art to be given out after the 50/50 drawing to ticket holders in attendance.
Ken said he will do similar in the future.....Many thanks to Ken for his generosity.
Fred Noren discussed candidates for the 2018 Board. At this time, one Director vacancy. Election will take place at the March General Meet-
ing. Members in attendance of meeting will vote as last election. No electronic ballots to be issued. Norm Sinclair has volunteered for open
Director position.
Variations to future scholarship and financial endeavors were discuss by Chuck Duke. Future financial contributions will take in various chari-
ties and community events rather than all monies go to just Venice High School Scholarships as in past. Member and Board input have desig-
nated several choices for 2018.
Director Jim McCarthy discussed the success of the new Club shirt sand badges
Many questions and lively discussions from audience, too numerous to mention. Many focus on our growing Club size.
Meeting adjourned at 8:25 pm.
Several Board executives and many Members stayed for another half-hour or more.
