2.5 GRAIN HOPPER SAFETYAlways follow these safety precautions:

1. Never enter the combine hopper when it is being unloaded.

2. If you must enter the hopper, place all controls in neu-tral or off, lower header to the ground, stop combine engine, set parking brake, chock wheels, remove igni-tion key, and wait for all moving parts to stop.

3. Even with the combine off the hazard of flowing grain may still exist.

4. Keep small children away from the combine, grain hopper, and Top Off Auger.

5. Do not enter a hopper filled with grain.

2.4 HYDRAULIC SAFETY1. Always place all combine hydraulic controls in neutral

before disconnecting from combine or working on hydraulic system.

2. Make sure that all components in the hydraulic system are kept in good condition and are clean.

3. Relieve pressure before working on the hydraulic system.

4. Replace any worn, cut, abraded, flattened or crimped hoses.

5. Do not attempt any makeshift repairs to the hydraulic fittings or hoses by using tape, clamps or cements. The hydraulic system operates under extremely high-pressure. Such repairs will fail suddenly and create a hazardous and unsafe condition.

6. Wear proper hand and eye pro-tection when searching for a high-pressure hydraulic leak. Use a piece of wood or cardboard as a backstop instead of hands to isolate and identify a leak.

7. If injured by a concentrated high-pressure stream of hydraulic fluid, seek medical attention immedi-ately. Serious infection or toxic re-action can develop from hydraulic fluid piercing the skin surface.

8. Before applying pressure to the system, make sure all components are tight and that lines, hoses, and couplings are not damaged.

Think SAFETY! Work SAFELY!

You can suffocate in grain in a hopper. It is extremely dangerous to enter a partially or fully loaded hopper. Grain can act like quick sand and pull the worker under, causing suffocation and death. Grain is a fl owing material and can trap you in seconds caus-ing suffocation and death.

4.0 ASSEMBLYRead all instructions to become familiar with the parts and procedures used before starting the actual work.

You may refer to the Crary Top Off Auger parts catalog, included in this book, for additional aid in assembling the Top Off Auger.

ASSEMBLY SAFETY

1. Assemble in an area with sufficient space to handle the largest component and access to all sides of the machine

2. When necessary, have someone assist you.

3. Do not allow spectators in the working area.

4. Be sure to read the maintenance safety section.

4.1 TOP OFF AUGER ASSEMBLY:There are many considerations to weigh before the Top Off Auger is mounted. The fi rst is to decide on a location in the hopper to place the mount bracket weldments. These dictate where the Top Off Auger will sit in relation to the grain hopper. Make sure the mounting brackets are placed in the front and the rear of the grain tank. Also place the unit far enough to one side so that it can tip down fully into the hopper. If the unit has a Big Top, it is recommended the Top Off Auger be mounted to the base of the Big Top. If the hopper has to be used as a mounting location, drill through a reinforced area.

1. Measure and drill the 3/8” holes for the mount bracket weldments. Connect the weldments using the provided bolts. If mounting to a Big Top frame use the 3/8 x 4” bolt. If mounting to a hopper use the 3/8 x 1” bolt. Depending upon the mounting location, bolts longer than 1” may be required.

2. Connect the main tube mount brackets to the mount bracket weldments using the four 1/2x2x3” U-Bolts, and eight ½” flange nuts.

3. Assemble the pivot latch weldment and the lock pin assembly. The lock pin will have to be held open to complete the assembly.

4. Make sure the main support tube fits between the main tube mount brackets. If the tube is too long, trim to fit.

5. Slide the assembled pivot latch weldment and lock pin assembly onto the main support tube.

6. Mount the main support tube to the main tube mount brackets using four 3/8x3”x4” U-Bolts and eight 3/8” serrated flange nuts.

7. Mount the frame/auger assembly to the weldment pivot latch using the remaining two ½ x2”x3” U-Bolts and four ½” flange nuts.

8. Adjust Top Off Auger to the desired location and tighten all bolts to specified torque, making sure to tighten the positioning bolts on the lock pin assembly.

Connecting the Hydraulics1. Attach flare adapters (P/N 16330) to the hydraulic mo-

tor with a 1-1/8” wrench.

2. Attach the ½” hose to the flare adapters using a 1-1/8” wrench, taking note which valve is connected to the “A” port of the hydraulic motor and which hose is con-nected to the “B” port.

3. Drill two holes (7/8”) at the desired location in the hopper for the two bulkhead fittings (P/N 13859-00).

4. Place the fittings in the drilled holes and tighten them with two 1-1/8” wrenches.

5. Connect the other end of the 1/2” hoses to the two bulkhead fittings, again taking note which hose is connected to the “A” port and which is connected to the “B” port.

6. Route hydraulic lines out of the way.

7. Tighten hydraulics to specified torque.

8. Follow further instructions (4.2-4.3) in the manual for connecting the Top Off Auger to the hydraulics of your combine using the hydraulic mount kit.

The suggested mounting location for these combine models is on the left side of the separator hood, either on or near the angle iron brace behind sieve agitator arms.

1. If necessary, measure and drill 1/4” mounting holes. Two 1/4 x 2-1/2” bolts, two flat washers and two lock-nuts are provided to mount the flow control valve.

2. Route the bolts through the flow control valve, then through the provided valve mount and into the mount-ing holes. The two washers and locknuts are then used to secure the valve.

Flow Control Valve Hose Hookup Six hoses are supplied in the hydraulic kit. Two 1/2” x 9’ hoses run from the fl ow control valve to the bulkhead adapters on the hopper. The two 1/2” x 19’ hoses run from the fl ow control valve to the solenoid control valve. A 1/2” x 18” hose connects the solenoid valve to the combine’s return manifold and a 1/2” x 28” hose connects the solenoid valve to the pressure relief valve.

1. Thread the 90o elbow end of each of the two 9’ hoses to the bulkhead fittings on the combine hopper and tighten. Attach the 9’ hose to the bulkhead connected to the “A” port of the hydraulic motor and to the con-trolled flow port labeled “CF” on the control flow valve. The other 9’ hose should be attached to the bulkhead coming from the “B” port on the hydraulic motor. Con-nect the other end of this line to the port labeled “EX” on the flow control valve.

2. Maintain a safe distance from any moving parts with the hoses. Use the provided plastic ties to secure the hoses.

3. Attach the end of one of the 19’ hose to the “IN” port of the flow control valve, and the other 19’ hose to the remaining “EX” tee port. Be sure all fittings are tightened properly.

Pressure Relief Valve Installation1. Disconnect the existing reel hydraulic pressure hose

from the reel control valve.

2. Connect the relief valve to the reel valve hydraulic pressure fitting.

3. Reconnect the reel hydraulic pressure hose to the fit-ting labeled “P” on the relief valve.

Solenoid Valve Installation1. 1. Disconnect the reel hydraulic return hose from the

return manifold.

2. Connect the reel hydraulic return hose to fitting “2” on the solenoid valve.

3. Connect one end of the 1/2” x 28” hose to the fitting in the port labeled “T” on the pressure relief valve. Connect the other end to the 28” hose to the solenoid valve tee, as shown.

4. Attach the 18” hose to opposite side of the solenoid valve tee, as shown. The other end is connected to the return manifold, where the reel hydraulic return hose was previously located.

5. Connect the end of the 19’ hose already attached to the “IN” port on the flow control valve to fitting “3” on the solenoid valve.

6. Connect the end of the 19’ hose already attached to the “EX” port of the flow control valve to the bottom connection on the solenoid valve, as shown.

7. Mount the solenoid valve to the valve mount plate with the supplied bolts, washers, and nuts.

8. Attach the valve mount plate to the existing bracket and bolts located above the tire next to the ladder on the combine fire wall.

9. Feed the 19’ hoses behind shields from the flow con-trol valve to the solenoid valve and secure using the provided plastic ties. Be sure to keep hoses a safe distance away from any moving parts. Tighten all fittings to proper torque.

4.2 HYDRAULIC KIT MOUNTING CASE IH MODELS 2000 SERIES

The pressure hose should run to fi tting “2” on the solenoid valve. If there is any question to which port is the “pressure in” port, blow into the pressure port (#2). The air should come out the bottom fi ttings. If air does not come out, THIS IS THE WRONG PORT. Try the other port.

NOTE

Place all controls in neutral or off, stop combine en-gine, set parking brake, remove ignition key, wait for all moving parts on machine to stop before servicing, adjusting, repairing, or unplugging. Make sure the combine is on a level surface.

Flow Control Valve MountingThe fl ow control valve mounts anywhere that is accessible, away from moving parts and close enough to the Top Off Auger for the hoses to reach. The suggested mounting location is directly between the valve block and the sieve agitator arms, in the open area of metal between reinforce-ment braces. An alternative location is on the front, left side of the separator hood behind the sieve agitator arms to use existing holes.

1. Measure and drill 1/4” holes to mount the flow control valve. Two 1/4 x 2-1/2” bolts, two flat washers, and two locknuts are provided to mount the flow control valve.

2. Thread bolts go through the flow control valve, then through the provided valve mount and into the mount-ing holes.

3. Secure with two washers and locknuts to specified torque.

Flow Control Valve Hose Hookup1. Route the two 9’ hoses from the bulkhead fittings to

the flow control valve.

2. Attach the 9’ hose coming from the bulkhead fitting to the controlled flow port labeled “CF” on the lower right side of flow valve.

3. Attach the other 9’ hose from the bulkhead fitting to the “Ex” port of the flow control valve.

4. Maintain a safe distance with the hoses from any moving parts.

5. Secure the 9’ hoses with the provided plastic ties.

6. Attach the straight end of the 4’ hose with the male/male adapter to the “IN” port of the valve, and the straight end of the other 4’ hose to the remaining “Ex” tee port.

Valve Block Hookup1. Feed the 4’ hoses behind shields as desired to the

valve block located under the left hood.

2. Keep hoses a safe distance away from any moving parts and secure in place with supplied plastic ties.

3. Interrupt the tee in the valve block, disconnecting the tee from the existing steel line.

4. Once the two lines are disconnected, thread the 4’ hose with the adapter-ended elbow and O-ring into the steel line and the other 4’ hose’s 1-3/16” elbow into the tee.

5. Tighten all hoses to specified torque.

NOTEOne O-ring should be in each connection; one is sup-plied, and one is from the valve block’s original con-nection. Tighten all connections and secure hoses as desired with plastic ties to eliminate movement.
