YOUR TITLE HERE BRIEF MY BRIEF AND HOW I WILL CARRY IT OUT 1. Field of study | My work will be situated in education such as senior schools and universities, I want to show the audience how having dyslexia feels this is so that people aware how it feels to be dyslexic. And some of the problems and difficulties faced everyday. Dyslexia is a condition that hinders the development of language-based skills, including spelling, writing and reading. It’s not associated with reduced intelligence but it can affect abilities such as short-term memory, organisational skills and sometimes speaking. 2. Design Problem/Question | The design problem is: “one in ten people in the UK are thought to have some form of dyslexia, is it possible to show how dyslexia affects spelling writing and reading, to show the difficulty faced everyday for some dyslexics. ” this is a very significant problem in all education as dyslexia as a condition is understood but not always the way that it feels to someone is understood. The target audience is everyone as it is important that everyone understands and sees how it feels. 3. Context | It’s believed that around one in 10 people in the UK are affected by dyslexia. It’s often associated with similar conditions such as dyspraxia (difficulty coordinating and organising thoughts and movements) and dyscalculia (difficulty handling numbers). People with dyslexia may have particular strengths, such as, big picture thinking, increased creativity and innovation, good lateral thinking ability, intuitive problem-solving skills, good visual and spatial skills and determination Many famous and successful people, including Albert Einstein, Sir Steve Redgrave and Sir Richard Branson, have/had dyslexic difficulties, as do a number of artists and stars in the performing and visual arts. 4. Rationale, Why is project important to you and to Graphic Design: New Media? The project is important to me because I am dyslexic and nothing has really been done to change the way I have learnt over the years which has made it more difficult for me to recall information because I find it harder to remember a lot of written information however I used to make notes to my self using pictures so I could picture them easier. Although dyslexia only really affects my spelling, concentration and short term memory, it affect many other people in a different way such as the words on a page moving or the letters mixing up or being to confusing to read, this can become frustrating sometimes and I would like to show how it feels. 5. Methods | I am planning on creating informative posters to show what it is like to be dyslexic, i will create then in Indesign 6. Predicted Resolutions | I am working towards a visual outcome for a specific subject which needs help the most for dyslexic people, I want to create something that makes it easier to remember specific dates and important information to help them with their subject area. WHAT IS DYSLEXIADyslexia is mainly percieved to be a problem with an indeviduals literacy skills such as reading writing and spelling, although dyslexia can also affect a number of different areas including organisation, concertrationa nd memory. Dyslexia usually arises from a wekness in the processing of language based information.Dyslexia is a type of learing difficulty which stems from the brain and nervous system. Having dyslexia does not have an affect on how intellegent someone is, it is meerly a dysfunction of how the brain see and interprets words and numbers. Everyone with dyslexia does not exhibit the same symptoms in the same way. Approximately one in ten in the UK are diagnosed with dyslexia. Some symptoms include reading slowly, difficulty reading, inept writing and spelling skills, and confusion of words that look alike. Having dyslexia makes it more difficult to translate words on a page into thoughts and ideas. Even though someone with dyslexia may be able to read the

words on the page, understanding them is difficult.Dyslexia is not an optical illusion but it may be related. The way in which our eyes are deceived an optical illusion picture is similar to the way dyslexics see words on a page, they appear to move around.People who are dyslexic have a strong sense of visualisation,You cannot cure Dyslexia because it is not a disease. You cannot repair the faulty genes because it is not a genetic disorder. Dyslexia is a heightened sense of visualisation that should be a gift but it has become a burden because it is not understood, accepted or addressed, until now.

THIS IS A POEM BY TEDDY HOLMES, I FOUND IT HELPFUL IN A RESEARCH POINT OF VIEW FOR DYSLEXIA BECAUSE, IT CLEARLY EXPLAINS WHAT ONE PERSON IN PARTICULAR FEELS LIKE WHEN THEY HAVE DYSLEXIA. THIS IS HELPFUL BECAUSE EVERYONE WHO IS AFFECTED BY DYSLEXIA IS AFFECTED INDEVIDUALY. I LOOKED AT MANY DYSLEXIA POEMS TO SEE HOW DIFFERENT PEOPLE FEEL WITH THEIR DYSLEXIA.

DyslexiaIt really is annoying when you can’t read black on white,You just get lost so easily because you can’t tell left from right. When words all look like pictures and letters jump around,And mathematics baffles you because it has no sound.

I’m capable, articulate and speak with true conviction,

Yet its written works and reading words that highlight my affliction.Sometimes I worry silently, the fear just makes me sick,I fear that people judge me because they think I’m ‘thick’.

So I offer up this silent prayer to ease my troubled mind,Let others see me, as I am, intelligent and kind. Please feel the struggle that I face each and every day,Dyslexia is not a myth, its real and here to stay.

Alas, I know that faith alone will not bring understanding,The world is fast, intolerant and always too demanding.I realise no higher being will clear my mind of fog,In which case, I have to ask if there really is a doG.

Teedy Holmes

I wanted to look at doodles and how they relate to Dyslexia, I really only found out that everyone Doodles because our minds are always active and when we, for example, are listening to a long lecture, or writing an essay we doodle because are minds never shut off so it is a way to let the mind work.

When we doolde we become more receptive and often makes us listen more when we are doodleing becuse we are keeping our minds active.

I gathered some very interesting imformation on doodles which is on my blog but i feel itsn’t relevent to the final outcomes because Doodling doesnt directly affect or help dyslexia.

IDEAS FOR POSTERThis is a spider diagram of the ideas i have on how I could represent dyslexia. I wnted to use the research I have gathered to help me make something that shows what it’s like for some people to have dyslexia. For my ideas i have decided to create 4 posters to represent a few ways that people feel when they have dyslexia.

The first poster i wan to do it how it feels to read, this is because some people find it extremely hard to read black writting on white paper, the writting moves around, gets larger and smaller, and it also gets lighter and darker so I want to represent this in some way.

The second idea for a poster is for left and right. As a dyslexic it is almost mpossible to tll left from right the first time, it is highly confussing although there are only two options.

The third idea I want to do something about spelling because most dylsexic people find it very hard to spell, so they spell it phonetically so it isn’t always right but it is close enough to make sense.

For fourth poster I want to show that a work load can bcoe overwelming at first but dyslexic people have to try really hard kepp their work load under controll and have to try very herd to keep it organized.

YOUR TITLE HEREIDEAS

DYSLEXIADyslexia is not an optical illusion but it may be related. The way in which our eyes are deceived in this picture is similar to the way dyslexics see words on a page, they appear to move around.

There is a way of understanding what the child or adult is going through and how they are experiencing the world.

People who are dyslexic have a strong sense of visualisation, it is how they see the world and there is an excellent and succesful method of understanding their visions, engaging better control over their images and finally overcoming Dyslexia.

You cannot cure Dyslexia because it is not a disease. You cannot repair the faulty genes because it is not a genetic disorder. Dyslexia is a heightened sense of visualisation that should be a gift but it has become a burden because it is not understood, accepted or addressed, until now.

I have moderate dyslexia which means that it only really affects my spelling and my short term memory. It doesn’t affect my reading however when i do read i shake my foot and fidget a lot which i was told helps me take more of the information in.

The Posters below are the draft posters. I changed the idea and fonts of a lot of the posters below, the only major change I made was for the reading poster
