Smarter Balanced Assessment Consortium
Smarter Balanced Assessment● Students in grades 3–8 and 11 will receive full-length tests for both
English language arts/literacy and mathematics
● Utilizes computer-adaptive tests and performance tasks that allow students to show what they know and are able to do.
● Is based on the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for English-language arts (ELA)/Literacy and mathematics.

California Alternate Assessments❖ Replaces the CAPA for ELA and Math
❖ Aligned with CCSS & based on Core Content Connectors
❖ All eligible students in grades 3–8 and grade 11 must participate
➢ Grades 5, 8, and 10 still take the CAPA for Science
❖ Testing is online in one-on-one test sessions with a Test Examiner, who is familiar with the student.
❖ Examiner will administer a Student Response Check (SRC)
➢ looking for observable response (consistent vs inconsistent)
