Lifespan’s Service OverviewFor CaregiversDo you need help taking on an eldercare situation?Call Eldersource* at 325-2800. OurEldercare Specialists in Eldersource canprovide information and guidance whiletalking with you on the phone. Theyare experienced social workers whoknow what questions to ask.

If you need more than telephone-basedassistance, an Eldersource CareManager can meet with you and/or yourfamily members. A care manager is asocial worker who is trained in geriatricsand the ins and outs of our community’scomplex eldercare system. A care manager can assess your situation, discuss a care plan, link you to servicesor assist with a move to a higher levelof care.

Do you need someone to help youadvocate for a nursing home resident?Ask about Lifespan’s OmbudsmanProgram. We train volunteers to advocatefor residents of nursing and adult homesin six counties. They tackle issues ofcare with compassion and knowledge.

Do you know an older adult who isstruggling with alcohol and/or drugaddiction/misuse?Ask about our Geriatric AddictionsProgram. This unique program providesone-of-a-kind, in-home supportivecounseling and intensive geriatric casemanagement.

For Vulnerable Older AdultsDo you know of a possible elder abusesituation? Call Lifespan’s Elder Abuse Preventionservice. We investigate and intervenein cases involving physical, emotionaland verbal abuse, and in instances offinancial exploitation—one of thefastest growing forms of elder abuse. We work in ten area counties.

Do you know an older adult who needsa guardian?Lifespan can become the court-appoint-ed guardian of an incapacitated olderadult, taking on medical, legal, finan-cial and housing decisions. Lifespandoes not initiate guardianships.

For Midlife Women Do you need help and guidance toreturn to the paid workforce afterspending years in the home? Ask about Lifespan’s Women inTransition Service. We can provide the job search and self-developmentassistance you need and want.

For Lower-Income Older AdultsDo you need assistance with bill paying,budgeting or benefits?Ask about our in-home bill paying/budgeting service provided by ourtrained volunteers.

Do you need a part-time job for extraincome?If you are 55 or older, we can subsidize on-the-job training in part-time jobs in othernon-profit organizations. You must meetincome guidelines for program eligibility.

Could you benefit from minor homemodifications to prevent falls?Ask about our Home-Safe-Home servicethat installs grab bars, railings and othersafety equipment. Must meet incomerequirements.

Do you need help paying for heating costs? The Home Energy Assistance Program(HEAP) for people age 60 or older islocated at Lifespan.

Do you know an older person with adevelopmental disability who wouldbenefit from participation in a seniorcenter?Ask about our unique “integration”service that enables those 60 and olderto participate in activities at MonroeCounty’s senior centers and in the community.

The Wolk Older Adult Center at Lifespan DowntownAre you looking for new friends andactivities? Ask about Lifespan’s Wolk Older AdultCenter, located on the first floor of theformer Sibley Building in downtownRochester. The center is a welcomingenvironment for adults (age 60 andolder) who want to make new friendsand participate in creative educationaland social activities. At the center youcan take an oil painting class, learn toquilt, take a group trip to the ButterflyMuseum, learn about computers, surfthe Net and get a hot meal. Ask about the Gerontology CertificateProgram managed by Lifespan in con-junction with St. John Fisher College.This 120-hour certificate program willgive you the knowledge you need towork with the older adult population.

Would you like to book an educationalworkshop for your organization?Ask about the more than 30 workshopsand trainings provided by Lifespan’sprofessional staff. Topics range from“The Emotional Aspects of Caregiving”to “Aging & Sexuality.”

Do you need to provide interpreters fordeaf customers?Lifespan provides this area’s largestnon-profit American Sign Languageinterpreting service. Call us for greatrates and expert service.

Volunteer Opportunities at LifespanGive-a-Lift: Volunteer to drive olderadults to medical and other appointments.

Financial Management: Volunteer tovisit an older adult once a month to helpwith bill paying tasks. Training provided.

Ombudsman: Volunteer as an advocatein a nursing or adult home. Trainingprovided.

Partners in Caring: Volunteers helpolder adults with shopping, yard work,light housekeeping, meal preparation, transportation, etc. Volunteers alsoneeded for friendly phone calls.

Health Insurance Consultant:Help older adults with choices regarding Medicare and associatedhealth insurance. Training provided.
