To recognise God in life around and within us. To know that the bible is broken into two parts: The Old Testament and The New Testament. To know the story of Moses. ENGLISH: SMART Spelling – The trigraph /air/ making the sound “air” as in hair. The graph /a/ making the sound ‘ar’ as in class. Reading – Identifying text evidence to support inferential comprehension. Exploring texts, illustrating features of fact files/ information texts. Making text connections and locating information in texts. Serial reading: Roald Dahl’s – The BFG – students making text connections. Writing – Writing factual statements, using effective conjunctions. (i.e. but, and, so) Writing texts, illustrating features of fact files/ information texts. Identifying homophones and their use. Exploring synonyms and how they enhance our writing. A reflective learnerIs honest about their strengths and challenges Accepts feedback Recognises what they have achieved and sets new goals.

Over the next two weeks we will be learning about the following:

MATHEMATICS: Number and Algebra • Explore addition and subtraction as inverse operations. • Calculate subtraction problems using a variety of strategies. INQUIRY: To Infinity and Beyond. • To identify varied characteristics of the planets. • To compare earth’s characteristics to those of the other planets in our solar

system.

PHYSICAL EDUCATION: In Physical Education this term, your child will:

• Perform fundamental movement skills of bouncing, throwing, catching and kicking.

• Demonstrate body control when participating in activities that require change of speed and direction.

• Begin to describe their feelings after participation in different physical activities.

VISUAL ARTS: This term your child will use drawing, painting, cutting and collage materials to create interesting art work. They will learn basic techniques in paper weaving. They will view the art work of Paul Klee who used shapes in a simple way in many of his paintings and they will create an art work based on this artist’s style. They will create a design using complimentary colours.

ITALIAN: This term, students will focus on the story of Pinocchio. This story will lead into looking at the Italian vocabulary for different body parts, Italian numbers to 10, how to say their age in Italian and celebrating birthdays. The students will be exposed to vocabulary on space. Students will continue to work on Italian greetings. STEM This term, your child will: • Continue to be introduced to the wonderful world of STEM focussing on digital technology. • Continue to understand what STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) stands for. • Be introduced and begin to identify and explore digital systems for a purpose. • Begin to explore how data can be collected, sorted and represented. • Begin to follow, describe and represent a sequence of steps and decisions (algorithms) needed to

solve simple problems.
