Church meeting scheduled for Sunday September 22, 2019
At the meeting of the Church Council on July 28 a
resolution was passed to form a Communications Committee to
specifically keep our members updated on issues related to our congregation
electing the “Traditional” plan which among other things bans pastors perform-
ing same sex marriages approved at the General Conference held last February
or electing the “One Church” plan that welcomes all persons, regardless of their
sexual orientation, to our church.
On September 22, at noon in the Carlson Fellowship Center we will be
having another meeting to become a “Listening Post” and the District
Superintendent, Jim Powell, has tentatively indicated he will attend as we all
listen to the many issues relating to the plans including the impact this will
likely have to local churches including Glendale. We urge you to attend this
meeting to learn more.
Members of the Communication Committee are Rev. Rich Garner,
Nancy Kachline, Sheldon Haase and Bruce Hinckley. If you have questions or
would like to join this Committee contact one of its members.

THANK YOU FOR CELEBRATING WITH US
Thanks to all who set aside a
Saturday afternoon on July 20, 2019 to
join Diane and I in celebrating our 50th
Wedding Anniversary. We are especially
grateful to Rosa Chou, Vangie Pico, and
Beverly Reynolds for organizing the
event and for all who brought food to
share. The table was well-laden with your
generosity.
We were delighted to greet the
many from the congregation who were
able to attend and to welcome several
from previously-served congregations in
Rancho Cucamonga, California and
Parker, Arizona. The cake and flowers
were and are being much enjoyed. We also appreciated the photographers and would be glad to receive
pictures taken of the event. A warm ‘aloha’ to you all from Hawai’i.
UMW Fashion Show and High Tea Party
On Saturday, August 24th, from 11:30 am to 3:00 pm, the
Cal-Pac Conference United Methodist Women with the support of
the Glendale First UMW unit will hold a fashion show and tea

Rehabilitation Unit. All women and girls of this congregation are
invited to attend. The cost is $10 per person and will be held in our
Carlson Fellowship Center. Please reserve your seat by contacting
Diane Garner at [email protected]. This promises to be a
fun afternoon with good food, fun fashions, and great fellowship.
New Musical Learning Opportunity for All Your chance to try something new is coming your way! You are invited to
come to the church at 6:00 pm on Monday, September 9 and learn about handbells
and chimes in a fun and relaxed setting, and then get a chance to pick them up and try
to play them. There will be refreshments served and you will have a new experience
in the musical world with no commitment, just a chance to learn. Our handbell
program is a mainstay at Glendale First, and there is a place for you, no matter what
skill level or experience you have. Bring a family member, friend or neighbor. All
ages are welcome as there is a handbell choir for everyone interested. If you have any questions please
