*Why clothing???

*Clothing is an important part of everyone's daily needs. It can help you look your best, feel good about yourself and tell others a lot about who you are. In fact, clothing can help you express your personality, your values, self-concept and individuality as well.

*However there are many other reasons for clothing, such as; physical needs, safety and security needs, love and acceptance needs, modesty, conformity, attraction, esteem, self-adornment, status and prestige, identification, individuality, personality, values, self-concept and body language

*Physical Needs…

*Protection from weather – hot/cold climates

*Maintain body temperature

*Required safety gear for certain occupations.

*Conformity: Following or obeying some set standards or authority.

*Peer Pressure: The force that makes you want to be like friends your age (peers).

*Self-Esteem: A feeling of personal self-worth.

*Self-Adornment: Decorating the body in some manner.

*Culture: The beliefs and customs of a particular group of people.

*Personality – Wearing clothes that express your traits!!! (environment, interests, friends)

prestige.5)Explain how your appearance can affect your self-concept.
