Fil?ocht Nua: New Poetry
OUR VISITOR
When Uncle John comes back
he likes to walk the fields
searching for mushrooms and watercress.
A bird alone
in his dark suit, white shirt,
English accent.
Once in Oldham
met men who spoke of Gormanstown
without mentioning Balbriggan.
Nor did he,
nobody's fool,
remembering the Tans.
His mother hurrying off,
the old go-cart stuffed
with food and clothes.
Now sampling delights he divines Ardgillan fields,
gauges slow streams.
Savors
white buttons, sweet greens,
swallows dipping their wings.
