A New Year Prayer Another year is dawning with the chance to start anew.

May I be kinder, wiser, Lord, in all I say and do.

I know not what may lie ahead of laughter or of tears; I only need to know each day that You are walking near.

I’m thankful for this brand new year as now I humbly pray, My hand secure in Yours, dear Lord, each step along the way.

Heaven, Hell, and The End of the World…. Wednesday night Bible study beginning January 13, 2016

6:30pm in the Sanctuary Led by Pastor Nate Leonard

In this in-depth Bible study, David Platt looks at the sobering realities of death, judgment, and hell, as well as the believer’s ultimate hope of heaven.

What happens after we die? When will Christ return? What kind of body will we have at the resurrection? Is hell a literal reality? What will heaven be like? What is the millennium?

These are the kinds of questions covered in this study, but not so that we can simply satisfy our curiosity: the goal is to persevere in hope and to realize the urgency and gravity of the mission that God has given to His people.

I hope you will consider being a part of this study!

Grace and Peace,

Pastor Nate Please contact Vonne Lewis in the church office at 252-726-4142 or [email protected] if you would like to participate in this Bible study and if so how many workbooks you will need. Cost of the workbooks will be $5 and will be collected on Wednesday, January 13.

Step by Step Through the New Testament

This is a 13 week survey of the New Testament that will give you an overview of the

27 books of the New Testament. This study will help you understand how the books

relate to each other and to Christ with an interactive learning model. Participants will

complete daily study on their own prior to the weekly gatherings to discuss the

lessons. The material is designed to help you move into a deeper relationship with

Christ. Pastor Darrell will lead this study on Wednesday evenings at 6:30pm in the

Conference Room beginning on January 13. Cost of the workbook will be $15.00.

Please contact Vonne Lewis in the church office if you would like to participate in this

Bible study.

5 Conversations You Must Have with Your Son

& Five Conversations You Must

Have with Your Daughter

Ann-Marie Robinson will lead this

Women’s Group on Wednesday nights

beginning on January 13 at 6:30pm in

room #104.

In these books, Vicki helps moms to

pinpoint and prepare discussions that

should be ongoing in their sons’ and

daughters’ formative years concerning

the truth about life. Cost of the books

are $12.50 each and are optional to

purchase.

You may sign up for these

Bible studies by calling Vonne

in the church office or going to:

Because we care for you and your family... The Deacons of First Baptist Church are committed to the Deacon Family Ministry Plan. We want to make certain every member and family in our church experiences the love and support of the whole congregation. FBC Deacon Family Ministry Plan: This is a plan through which the Deacons can join the Pastor and church staff in ministering to the physical, spiritual, and emotional needs of each church member and family. If you have a need, let your Deacon know. How can a Deacon help you? You are the only one who can answer that question. However, there are some specific ways your Deacon wants to try to help:

Visiting with you and your family. Rejoicing with you and your family in times of celebration. Giving support to you and your family during times of crisis. Answering any questions about the church you might have. Helping you know and find fellowship with other members and families in the church. Helping you find ways to serve in and through the church. Praying for you and with you.

I don’t know who my Deacon is: Every church member of FBC has a deacon. If you do not know who your deacon is, please call the church office. The staff will be glad to help you.

ALL CURRENT COMMITTEE CHAIRPERSONS

A NEW YEAR IS STARTING AND WE NEED YOUR HELP!

The first Church Council meeting of the 2016 year will be held Tuesday, January 26 at 7pm in the Conference Room. Prior to this meeting we need your help. We ask that you:

Pick up your committee’s information packet from the church office by Wednesday, January 6. Schedule a meeting with the oncoming committee members by January 18. Please note that on January 6 there are no activities and it would be a great night to schedule a meeting.

The main purposes of the meeting will be to:

Elect your committee’s Chair, Vice-Chair and Secretary. (This information needs to be turned in to Vonne in the church office by Wednesday, January 20.)

Go over the information packet.

Thank you for your help!

A huge thanks to Joe Beam for hosting our Joy Club Christmas party this year, and for Valerie

Blankenship, Suzanne McDaniels, and Wanda Eastep who helped get everything ready! We had a

great time and already have a couple of people who have volunteered to host our party in 2016!

Our Senior Adult Ministry Planning Team will be getting together in January to make plans for the

coming year. If you would like to be a part of that team or have some ideas about things you would

like to see us do, please come join us. Watch for the date for that meeting in the worship folder.

Our first Joy Club meeting of the year will be on Tuesday, January 26 at 10:45am in the conference

room. We always have a luncheon following our meeting and this is a great time of fellowship

around the table. Make plans now to come and be with us for our meetings this year!

Senior Stretch meets each Tuesday morning at 9:30am in the FLC. Led by Phyliss Adcock, these

ladies have a wonderful time working together to stay in shape! An added benefit is the great

friendships that have formed among this group and the inspiration they receive each week as

Phyliss leads them in a devotion. Come out and be proactive in taking care of your body and spirit!

Calling all Prospective Singers! The Sanctuary Choir invites you to join them in

worship leadership. Choir members join together weekly on Thursday evenings at

7:00pm to learn new music, increase music skills, share in fellowship as a body of

believers and support each other as members of the family of FBC. After a few

weeks off for the Christmas holiday our regular rehearsals will resume on Thursday,

January 7 at 7:00pm in the choir room. No experience is necessary to join the

choir. If you are interested in learning more about opportunities to be a part of the

Music Ministry of FBC please contact Diane Hawkins, Dir. of Music Ministries, at

[email protected] or 726-4142. You don’t know what you’re missing until you

give it a try!

Children’s Choirs meet from 6:00 – 6:45pm in the upstairs children’s Sunday School classrooms and downstairs in the Children’s Church room. Please bring your child into the Family Life Center to be escorted by his/her teacher to the choir room. After choir the children will go to their mission groups. If your child is not participating in a mission group you may pick them up outside of their choir room at 6:45pm. All children’s activities will end at 7:30 pm. If your child is not a member of our Children’s Choir but would like to participate, please contact Diane Hawkins at 726-4142 or [email protected].

Mission Friends Mission Friends is for our preschool and kindergarten children (ages 4 and 5). Our little ones will get a chance to learn about mission work around the world.

Royal Ambassadors (RAs) RAs is for all boys in Grades 1-6. Here boys will have an opportunity to become involved in local missions while learning about missions around the world. The RA Motto, "We are Ambassadors for Christ," not only gives the organization its name, but also gives boys and Leaders a lifestyle goal.

Girls in Action (GA’s) GA’s is for all girls in Grades 1—6 and is a dynamic mission discipleship group of powerful young girls! In GA’s they will learn about missions, and even participate in missions themselves. GAs help girls in our church begin to develop spiritually towards a missions lifestyle as they learn what God is doing in the world and discover their place in God’s plan.

Contact Cathy Green at 241.5026 if you would like to volunteer or if you have any questions about Children’s Missions!

If you enjoy singing and ministering

through music, like to laugh, enjoy

fellowship and fun times together,

then the JOY-Makers senior adult choir is

for you. Rehearsals will resume on

Thursday, January 14 at 10:30am in

the choir room. For more information

contact Deborah Lockey at 726-4142

or by email to [email protected].

MARTHA’S MISSION Martha's Mission Cupboard, located at 901 Bay Street, Morehead City, is an emergency food pantry, solely run by volunteers, established to provide the needy citizens of Carteret County a temporary supply of nutritious and balanced food at no cost. In an average month Martha’s Mission will provide food to approximately 350 families.
