RECRUITMENTGreat care is taken during the selection and recruitment process by our dedicated HR Department to ensure that we not only recruit the best possible candidates, but retain our valued employees through our phased induction program. This program has been specifically designed for the market segments wespecialise in.
Our minimum recruitment criteria:
• Grade 10 but Gr 12 preferable• South African ID• 18 years of age or older• PSIRA registered• Proof of banking account• Contactable references• No criminal record• Passed a basic aptitude test
SELECTIONAll candidates are interviewed by our training and human resources personnel, as well as the operational manager who will ultimately be responsible for the contract. To ensure that we source and invest in the correct individuals, the candidates are subjected to the following selection evaluations:
• Knowledge evaluation• Job specification evaluation• Criminal and financial clearance • Pre-employment screening• Voice stress analysis tests• Counter-productive work behaviour analysis• Psychometric evaluation (for senior positions)
TRAININGTraining is one of the critical differentiating factors for our business. Our product is our people, and therefore it is vital that we invest as much as we can into the development of our product.
Training is conducted at PSIRA registered and SASSETA accredited Thorburn training facilities across the country. Our qualified training moderators also conduct on-site and on-the-job refresher training.
Training and development of staff forms an integral part of the Thorburn obligation, not only in terms of job creation, but also retention and development. Personnel are developed for next-level positions within Thorburn, according to a training and development plan.
Our induction training is conducted through a phased approach and takes place over five to ten days (up to two weeks of intensive training). The phases have been designed to start with the basics and work up to more advanced skill sets required for specific applications. The basic induction consists of the following:
• Company structures and procedures• Disciplinary standards• Dress code• Searching procedures• Access control• Radio and telephone communication
• Public Relations• Basic English language skills• Conflict resolution• Legal aspects and by-laws• Logistics – equipment• Systems – patrol, incident management
