District Focus: ReadingGrade level and beyond literacy is critical to success for all students, in all content areas, at all levels.

GOALS - On-going goals from year to year until reachedNinety-five percent of all students and subgroups of students to include ELL, ethnic groups, students with disabilities, and economically disadvantaged will meet or exceed proficiency in all content areas on the WKCE. (Note: This goal will be reviewed in relation to new state and federal mandates).Eighty percent of all students taking the MAP assessment will meet or exceed typical expected growth in all content areasThe ACT composite score in each content area tested will continually increase to 26 and continually increase test participation to 100%.The percentage of students enrolled in AP courses will continue to increase each year with all students completing an AP or AP level course prior to graduation.

InitiativesThe following initiatives are aligned to the updated LRP (2010-11) and continue efforts from 2007-08 LRP.Secondary Scheduling: The administration will implement a secondary schedule that meets the needs of secondary students with changes occurring in 2014-2015.Data-Driven Decision Making: The District will continue to implement a systemic approach to the use of data in alignment with future State of Wisconsin initiatives. Training will be provided on how to use both local and state longitudinal data systems. Evaluation: In 2013-14, the District will further pilot the teacher and principal evaluation system that the State of Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction will fully implement in the 2014-15 school year. Grading Transformation: The District in collaboration with the grading committee will continue to develop and implement the capacity to fully implement grading practices aligned with best practice research. A grading handbook will be provided to staff and on-going staff development will take place throughout the 2013-14 school year. New Learning Environments: The District will open the Wauwatosa Virtual Academy that will continue to expand opportunities for students.

On-Going InitiativesProfessional Learning Communities (PLC): All PLCs will continue to create formative and summative common assessments and provide evidence of using data analysis to further individual and group student learning. Back to the basics training will take place throughout the year to ensure continuous improvement to best meet student academic needs. Building Leadership Teams: Elementary BLTs will continue staff development on Common Core alignment in preparation for the Smarter Balanced Assessment. The focus area will be literacy. Secondary BLTs will continue their work on content area benchmarks, common assessments, and Reading in the Content. Common Core: In preparation for the Smarter Balanced assessment both curricular and instructional practice alignment to the common core in the areas of reading and math will continue. Response to Intervention (RTI): The District will continue the implementation and monitoring of research- based interventions in the areas of reading and math. Staff development and resources will continue to be developed in preparation for the new SLD law, which will go into effect on December 1st, 2013. In addition, middle and high school academic support programs will be implemented and aligned to best support students academic achievement. Positive Behavioral Intervention Supports: All schools in the District will continue their development of PBIS through the stages of growth. Additional work will be undertaken to support PBIS in discipline and recognitionCommunication: Work with parents and staff on alternative ways to communicate about school and district initiativesStudent Services: Using an external consultant, the district will conduct a comprehensive review of student services in Wauwatosa. The review will assess functions, operations, and service delivery of both student services and special education and provide recommendations that are aligned with state and federal law as well as researched best practice.Bullying: The District will continue to utilize proactive strategies in bullying prevention through delivery of the Second Step Curriculum in grades K-5, the Department of Public Instruction Bullying Curriculum (Time to Act/ Time to React) in grades 3-8 and school climate building/citizenship development in grades 9-12. In addition, the District will continue to respond to incidents of bullying through applying district developed bullying investigation procedures and resolution practices.

Project Completed this yearEmployee Handbook: The District will continue to update an employee handbook to include a review of all employee policies and procedures. Athletic Fields Committee: An athletics fields committee will convene and develop recommendations for future priorities related to our athletic and recreational facilitiesCommunication: New communication venues will be established to further communication with community, staff, administration and the Board of Education.Compensation Restructure: The District will implement a new compensation system for teachers for the 14-15 school year. Marketing Committee: The committee will evaluate marketing strategies and continue to build the district's brand both internally and externallyLong Range Plan: An update meeting will be held with the Long Range Plan Committee this school year.Wauwatosa Montessori: Continue to develop and monitor the growth and progress of the Montessori Program and WSTEM.

Website: A new district and school website will be implemented, integrating the variety of resources available to parents, such as PowerSchool.Partnerships between City Agencies and School District: The District will strengthen connections with community organizations to include the Wauwatosa Mayors Office, City Administrator and the Citys new Marketing Committee
