Issue 6 Term 1 Week 6 8 March 2018
Good afternoon Parents, Carers and Friends of Greenwich Public School.
Welcome to week six Term 1.
P&C Day 7 March
P&C Day is a day for P&C Associations to celebrate and acknowledge the efforts of those hardworking volunteers and members, who work tirelessly year after year to support their public school and students.
This is a good opportunity to thank our P&C for the tremendous support they give us throughout the year and to publically acknowledge that without their support we here at Greenwich Public School could not offer the additional learning and support program, classroom resources, technology upgrades, additional school learning support officer support and grounds assistance.
Greenwich Public School is extremely fortunate to have such a supportive parent body so thank you everyone for your assistance and support we really appreciate it.
Ms Johanna Smith
Ms Smith has sent some photos this week of the school she is working at and the snowfall she is currently experiencing. She assures us that she is having a wonderful time although it is cold.
We wish her all the best for her exchange and have asked her to keep the photos coming across for us to see.

Parent/Teacher Interviews
It is wonderful to see the number of parents taking advantage of the opportunity to have a discussion with their child’s teacher. Thank you to everyone who is participating.
Notice of Staff Development Change of Date
Please don’t forget we have been fortunate to secure a days training at the Department’s Future Focus Learning Unit in Eveleigh on April 3. This day will be in place of the Term 2 Staff Development Day. Students will not attend school on Tuesday April 3 but will resume school on Wednesday April 4. This extends the Easter break by 1 day for families.
I hope that everyone has a great week.
Vicki McKenzie.

Years 2-6 Sporting Programs – Terms 2 and 3 Today your child/ren have received a note outlining the sporting programs on offer for students in Term 2 (Years 2 – 6) and Term 3 (Years 3 – 6). These forms are a nomination form only as we cannot guarantee your child a place in their chosen program until trials have taken place and numbers evaluated. Please read the note carefully and nominate your child’s first (1) and second (2) preference on the attached form and return to your child’s class teacher by Monday 12 March. Further information and permission notes notifying you of the program your child will participate in will be distributed later in the term. PLEASE NOTE the swimming program is not 12 weeks as advised in the letter but for the duration of term 2 sport which is a 7 week program. Please email the school office if you have any questions. Amelia Rutherford PSSA Coordinator Greenwich Public School Swimming Carnival 2018 Last Wednesday 28 February, our annual swimming carnival was held at the Lane Cove Aquatic Centre. The weather was beautiful, fitting for the last day of summer. House captains ably led their houses in cheers, chants and war cries. Students are commended on the high level of effort and sportsmanship that was demonstrated on the day. A special thanks must go to Mr Alistair McElligott, Ms Julie Morgan, the Lane Cove Swimming Club and all parent helpers for their assistance on, and leading up to the day. The North Shore Zone Swimming Carnival will be held at Lane Cove Aquatic Centre this Friday 9 March. Your child will have already received their permission note, notifying them if they have qualified. Good luck to all students representing Greenwich Public School on Friday. The results from our school carnival are below:

Recorders
All lessons are in the library. If your child is not attending recorder class through illness, or some other reason,
please send me a message 401 501 178.
Year 2 Lessons commence at 8.30am. If a student has forgotten his/her recorder please still come to class. I am
responsible for your student from 8.30 - 9.00am Tuesday and Friday.
Years 3-6 The Opera House Concert is in May. With one lesson a week we can’t afford to miss any lessons. There
needs to be very regular practice.

CLOSURE OF UNIFORM SHOP ON WEDNESDAYS
The GPS P&C have sadly had to make a decision that the Uniform shop will no longer be open regularly on a Wednesday. We are working through our options given we have not been able to find a volunteer to run this for us.
You can place an order by Sunday at 4pm (for Monday 3pm delivery) via Flexischools and they will be availble for either:
Delivery to your child’s classroom – Years K-1 Only
Pick up from the Greenwich Rd Campus Office – Years K-1
Sign and Collect from Kingslangley Road Campus Office – Years 2-6
Delivery to GOOSH – All Years
If you or a group of parents/carers/grandparents would be willing to volunteer to run the Uniform Shop please contact us at [email protected]
Dr Shoe (the company that sells school shoes) will be at the Infants campus (72 Greenwich Road) on Wednesday
March 21.

A School Banking representative will be available at the Information Session to show you how you can do this. In order to verify yourself and your child, you will need your driver’s licence, your child’s birth certificate and Medicare card, but if you don’t have these with you on the day, you can complete verification online at home.
A SPECIAL DOLLARMITES VISITOR IS COMING TO THE K-1 CAMPUS!
The children in Kindergarten and Year 1 will get a special visit this week from a Dollarmites character to encourage children to find out more about the School Banking Programme at GPS. Remember, School Banking day is every Thursday before school under the COLA at both Campuses.
P&C DAY – WEDNESDAY 7TH MARCH
We are celebrating P&C Day today, which is a time to celebrate the contributions of P&C Associations to school comunities across NSW. The NSW P&C Federation Board thanks all P&C Volunteers who give so much of their time and energy towards their local schools. As well as fundraising, P&C’s are the opportunity for parents to advocate for their school as a combined community voice.
GPS P&C would like to thank all of it’s members for the hard work and dedication they show throughout the year to support our terrific school and the community that we are all proud to be a part of. We are excited to have additional support from the community this year and look forward to working with and welcoming parents to the GPS Parents & Citizens Association.
