Thank you to those parents and carers who dropped in and had some refreshments and a chat with Ms Murray, Ms Page and myself. We enjoyed sharing aspects of the school planning with you and having the opportunity to receive feedback from you about the school and its programs. We will be holding our next Principal’s morning tea in Term 2 and would love to see many parents and carers dropping in for a chat. We will be running three-way Learning Conferences in Week 9. Information has recently been sent home to all families. Please organise a time to meet with your child’s teacher so that we can work together to improve your child’s learning outcomes and engagement with school. Our Easter Hat Parade will be held on Thursday 29 March followed by the drawing of the P&C Easter Raffle. All members of our community are welcome to join us on the day. This year our students will be completing NAPLAN online rather than completing the traditional pen and paper test. Today we have completed a practise for this online assessment so we could evaluate how the school’s computer equipment worked and whether our students had any issues logging on to the system. Teachers will continue to practise relevant computer skills with their students leading up to the actual NAPLAN assessment in May. The school’s teachers and staff members are able to communicate with our parents and carers in person and through the school’s email account and over the phone as well as sharing school events through the school website and official ‘Facebook’ page. I encourage all members of our community to use the above channels to communicate with staff. Staff are advised not to have parents and community members as friends on their personal Facebook page and not to respond to attempts at communication using ‘Messenger’. Work done with Miss Dunn! 100 Acre Wood This term 100 Acre Wood students have been learning about who to speak to when we are feeling sick. We learned that medicines help us and that we can ask our families, doctors and emergency services to help us.

Dempsey calling the doctor.

Asgard In Asgard, we have been learning about what to do in case of an emergency. We enjoyed role playing calling 000. We also learned that it is important to never touch medicines and hazardous items in the house or classroom.

Maurice and Jackie role playing being ambulance officers. Metropolis National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence Last week Metropolis participated in a variety of learning activities to promote the 2018 National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence. They learned about what bullying is, its different types and strategies to help us to live safe and happy lives. Metropolis students were able to create avatar characters using our XOs and send virtual messages onto the Bullying No Way website to inspire other young students in Australia to take a stand against bullying. Well done Metropolis!

Aden’s avatar “It might be a virtual world but the people are real. I’m taking a stand against cyberbullying”. Summer’s avatar “It might be a virtual world but the people are real. I’m taking a stand against cyberbullying”.

Science in Whoville In Whoville we have been learning about how materials can be used for specific purposes. We worked in groups to create a marble run and discussed which materials would be best to use and why.

On Thursday 29th of March at 11:45am our Preschool, Infants and Primary students will be having an Easter Hat Parade. We would like to invite you, your family and friends to join us for this event. The parade will take place on the basketball court. Students and community members are invited to wear a hat or come along with crazy hair. The P&C will be hosting a morning tea from 11:00 - 11:30am, and the Easter Raffle will be drawn after the parade. Students are encouraged to make their Easter Hat at home ready to bring to school on the day of the parade. Please remember not to put real chocolate eggs on the hats, as not only is melting chocolate upsetting for students, we do have students with allergies attending the parade. REMINDERS: * Up to Date Contact Details A number of families have moved or had phone numbers change over the holiday period. If this applies to your family, could you please update any new or changed information on the note that was sent home today? K-2 Fun Friends Program

Students in Kindergarten, Year 1 and Year 2 are learning about:

• Their sense of identify; • Being brave; • Maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Here are some suggested activities you may like to try at home to reinforce the skills and strategies taught at school. Family activity Families and teachers should practise ‘introducing yourself’ games. Families and teachers need to explain and practise being brave. Being brave includes:

• Giving things a go even when you are scared • Trying a new ‘hard’ thing • Trying a new food • Trying new games • Sharing things you really want just for yourself

Activities for home

- Incorporate ‘brave charts’ where children can earn a stamp every time you notice them being brave. - Plant a tree or grow an organic vegetable garden to reinforce the message of healthy living. - Record the amount of time spent outside together. - Talk about what makes them happy.

Tickets $1 each or 6 for $5
