GENERAL INFO

Our school is the 3rd Junior High School of Pyrgos. Its students reach 385 and its professors 37 in number this year. It consists of two floors, 15 classrooms, a chemical laboratory, a computers' room and a small yard. It has been located in Giannitson Street since 1993.

HISTORY

Our School first started operating as a Commercial School in 1939 until 1961 when it was renamed Economic School. In 1976 its function changed in a mixed school and in 1979 it was renamed 3rd Junior High School. At first it was accommodated in Manolopoulou Street, but an earthquake in 1993 rendered it uninhabitable, so it was eventually moved in Giannitson street.

Taking into serious consideration the students' benefits and their mental

cultivation, the 3rd Junior High School has been running different programs

which have to do with the environment, charities and fund-raising, the

European union etc. It also offers a great variety of extra curricular and

sports activities, such as a school choir, a newspaper team, a theatrical group and various sports teams. Last but not

least, our school has taken part in many competitions where it has scored great

successes.

Mrs Magda Simota and Fotini Kourtali, teachers of Literature

They are the oldest professors of our school teaching in it for 25 years. They have met a lot of students all these

years, they love them very much and they think that the students are their family. That’s why the 3o Junior High

School is a very important part of their life.Especially, they remember the pleasant moments from the school and they are happy for the success of their students, whenever they pass at university and when

they are successful . Maybe sometimes the case of some students who fail in their lives or don’t care about the

lessons makes them sad, but they feel satisfaction because our school has many excellent students who are

occupied with arts, science and politics.

Page 26: Our school

They teach with passion. They most love Ancient Greek language and Modern Greek literature, because they believe

that Ancient Greek language is a rich language whereas Modern Greek Literature gives them the opportunity for dialogue and

thinking on social problems as well as the possibility of traveling to different worlds and epochs.

They get satisfaction from their work and from the relationship with the students. They respect and appreciate them and they also believe that the students must express their opinion free. As for the teachers, they believe they must work hard in the

class, be strict and at the same time tolerant and put the limits, because sometimes the children get over the limits, especially

today that the teenagers are more reactionary and undisciplined than the previous generations. However, the most

children are cooperative.

Well, that was a little about our school. It has its pros and cons, of course, but to us it is

the best. It plays a very important role in our daily life

and, even if we sometimes feel like uhhh, “I can’t do this

anymore!”(!), we know it offers a lot to us.
