Without the incredible youth and adult volunteers who dedicate their time to help with Vacation Bible School, hosting over 110 kids would not be possible! Thank you, members of Our Savior Lutheran Church and School for not only praying for
VBS, but for donating your time and treasures. Also, Thrivent Financial Action Teams which helped fund this outreach mission into our community. Thank You to the 71 amazing volunteers who gave their time and talents: Sophie Anderson, Kayla Auguste, Katelyn Bass, Debi Bauer, Bradley Bhalai, Nicholas Burdo, Alexis Carreira, Ellen Clark, Andrew Clark, Drew Clark ,Shelley Cook, Alanis Crespo, Cody DeLaHorra, Sarah Duffy, Kai-Zoe Fellows, Anelly Fernandez, John-Paul Gonzalez, Matthew Hasselbring, Teija Haye, Betty Hea, Machaela Holden, Juliana Holifield, Mia Horton, Sofia Jahrmarkt, Danielle Jahrmarkt, Kimberley James, Danielle James, Matt Hones, Hannah Jones, Jared Khan-Bagley, Lerryn Latimer, Brooke LeBoeuf, Pat Maahs, Gracie Mannise, Renel Marcelus, Bill May, Katelyn McGillivray, Norma Miller, Christopher Montalvo, Lucius Morales, Andrea Orta, Julio Orta, Jaden Pierre, Michael Pomper, Kenya Reid, Linda Root, Isabela Samper, Ally Samper, Sofia Samper, Jordana Serrao, Grier Simpson, Shea Simpson, Edith Southerton, Lindsay Strang, Jennifer Strickman, Preston Strickman, Parker Strickman, Kayla Tapling, Craig Tapling, Isabel VandenBerg, Brock VanSant, Nancy Volz, John Waldron, Nyla Walters, Dylan Warfel, Judy Watson, Tiffany Weidner, Mike Weidner, Andrew Weidner, Jan Withers.
A SPECIAL THANK YOU TO TAMMY WEIDNER Tammy Weidner is the chair person on the Children and Youth Ministry Board for Our Savior Lutheran Church. She “heard the call” when asked who could organize Vacation Bible School this year. She basically said, “here I am.” The amazing part is that Tammy has never helped with VBS in the past and had to learn, research, attend meetings and observe another church to even know what to do. Tammy is a full time nurse manager at Broward General Hospital; she is married and has an active high school student and a college student. Where she found the time, only God knows! We are so grateful for Tammy’s attention to detail and organizational skills. Our Savior Lutheran Church thanks you, Tammy, for “Serving Christ – Serving Others – Changing Lives!”
This is a letter that was recently sent along with the check from the “Cards for Goats”
project: Dear Helen,
With thanks and praise to our Lord our Greeting Card making group has reached its immediate
goal that totaled $3600 to obtain 48 Goats for Haiti. Actually, it's 48 goats plus. A month or so
ago we sent $2046. Today we are sending $1597, which is a total of $3643. The Lord has blessed us with very talented and dedicated workers.
I am happy to announce we will resume our activities for Haiti Goat project again on July 11. We
are taking the month of June off. During the summer we will be doing Christmas cards.
The picture you sent of the family receiving their goats was so encouraging to our group. It's not
often that we see the fruits of our efforts when working for a charity. But you always come through. We hope and pray that this program helps these families develop good herds and they
learn and earn a solid livelihood.
Any more pictures you can provide are always welcome and appreciated. We wish you
God's blessings and pray for your mission.
In Christ, Dorothy Schawk, Barbara Fischer and

A Sunrise Butterfly Hero shares the Benefits of Gardening I recently had the opportunity to visit with Mr. Steve Withers who has been a Sunrise resident for almost three decades. As we toured his beautiful backyard garden, we saw two types of butterflies dancing amongst the diverse plants and trees. The plants of varying heights: trees such as Plumeria and Chenille, shrubs and smaller plants such as Milkweed and Heather made his yard feel like an oasis. His yard is indeed an oasis for relaxing and entertaining friends and family. His yard is also an oasis for wildlife with the a few cute bird houses and a small bird bath, and a diverse array of plants, his yard provides food, water and shelter for pollinators such as hummingbirds and butterflies. Providing food, water and shelter for wildlife are the main criteria to qualify National Wildlife Federation certification. In one area of the yard, Mr. Withers has a simple yet effective bucket container vegetable garden that he picks from all year! Using organic gardening techniques, he grows kale, collard greens, lettuce, tomatoes and more. “People don’t know what greens taste like until they taste fresh picked. There is nothing better.” Asked why he gardens, Mr. Withers listed a number of benefits including that he finds gardening stress relieving, that gardening is a great activity to share with kids and family, and that by certifying his yard with the National Wildlife Federation’s program, he is proud to be connecting to something larger.
