On Friday 4th March, Coonabarabran
Public School students showed their
support for ‘Clean Up Australia Day’ by
participating in a whole school clean up.
Each class was allocated a designated area
for clean up and were motivated to take
pride in their school grounds. All classes
did a fantastic job making it difficult for
Mr Willoughby to choose the cleanest
area. 2N were rewarded with Super
Doopers which they thoroughly enjoyed!
Congratulations to all students who
participated and displayed excellent
school spirit!
K-2 Classes were given a special talk by
staff from the Commonwealth Bank. Mr
David Jackson spoke about the importance
of learning about money and how the
students can save for special things.
Many students at our school have bank
deposit books which they bring for banking
each Tuesday.
David reminded the children about tokens
they can earn and then swap for cool gifts
such as rulers, caps and even backpacks.
Each time a student banks at school the
school is rewarded.
We were very happy to be presented with a
cheque for $300 by David and Amanda
O’Neil all possible because of our
enthusiastic young bankers.
SWIMMING FOR
SPORT YEAR 5 & 6 Children will attend the town pool
this Friday. Children will need $2
entry, swimmers, towel and hat.
Last Wednesday the Iki magic crew visited our school from Dubbo and everyone had a
great time participating in two workshops.
Workshop 1 was a theory lesson with Kim on respect and expectations using the IKI
principles of I’m OK you’re OK, Look Listen and Learn, No Play No Play and Eat well Live
well. This lesson concluded with each student signing a personal contract that highlighted that
as a member of Coonabarabran Public School they will follow our school rules along with the
Iki principles and our ‘You Can Do It’ welfare system , and by doing this we will have a safe
and happy place to learn.
Workshop Two was with Pete and was the physical side of Iki magic where all classes
discussed being power positive and participated in IKI moves and physical activity.
Everyone had a fabulous time at the Iki magic
workshops and went home feeling very positive
about themselves and our school.
We will continue with the IKI activities each week
throughout this year.
Application Forms to attend the athletics selection trials where a team will be chosen
to represent NSW at the National championships in Darwin in September are
available pm the PSSA website.
The only way that a gifted athlete can represent NSW at the national championship is
by selection at this carnival.
State trials for PSSA Athletics will still be held in October but in this year, 2011,
they will only be a state trial.
For further information please contact Mr Ginn.

Concluding Chapter: At that moment the ugly goblin realised the hill was not a hill at all, it was a huge
ocean blue dragon. The mighty beast roared and stood up, almost rising to the roof
of the cave. The other goblins tumbled down and fell in front of the dragon.
"Stop!" shouted the ugly goblin to the others, "Look behind you".
The treasure thieves turned and let out a high pitched scream as the big giant beast
towered above them.
Suddenly there was a blast of fire as a big ball of flames glided towards them. The
goblins swiftly jumped out of the way. At that moment there was a massive explosion
above them and rocks began to fall from the ceiling of the cave, burying the
valuables.
The goblins turned and fled towards the cave's entrance, running as fast as their
little legs would carry them. Quickly pocket-sized Jim grabbed the huge green
sparkling emerald and then dashed after the others before he was trapped inside.
When the dust began to clear the gem protector turned and gathered the remaining
precious jewels. Then he fell into a heap on top of them, satisfied in knowing the
goblins would never return.
The goblin troop returned to their swamp and sat down in relief. Jim arrived shortly
after and shouted "Look!" He pulled the gleaming stolen jewel from his pocket and
the others cheered. Jim and the others danced with delight until midnight, amazed
at their lucky escape.

What a busy few weeks! Year 3H have settled into primary school with amazing ease and are excited about the challenges that this year will bring. In Science and Technology we have been studying the unit ‘Light Fantastic’. We have been investigating sources of light and students will be presenting a project in Week 6. Students over the next few weeks will be working in groups to experiment with coloured filters and make their own periscope using recycled materials. We will also be integrating what we have learned into Creative Art projects. Creative Art this term also includes our entry into the Coonabarabran Show. Students have been thinking about their strengths in terms of Coonabarabran Public School’s ‘You Can Do It’ keys and have placed a coloured handprint onto calico which forms the basis of our ‘Class Quilt’. We have also been practising some basic sewing skills and talking about other famous tapestries and quilts of our world. Students are very excited about creating history so please look for our wall hanging at the show.
