Dear Neighbor,Since it opened in 1958, Metropolis Works has been a proud member of the Metropolis

community. More than 270 skilled Honeywell employees live, work and raise their families

here, and we are proud of the role we are playing in enabling the production of clean energy

to meet the needs of a growing world.

Metropolis Works is the only facility in the U.S. that converts uranium ore into uranium

hexafluoride (UF6), an essential compound used to produce enriched uranium for use as

fuel in nuclear power plants. We have made significant investments to upgrade our facility to

ensure the safety of our employees and our community. Customers around the world depend

on us to generate clean nuclear power as an alternative to fossil fuel energy sources.

We take pride in the essential work we do and in being good neighbors. We have twice

purchased emergency sirens for Massac County, and every year we donate top-of-the-line

personal protective equipment to local first responders. We also play an active role in supporting

local businesses and community events.

To learn more about Metropolis Works and our commitment to the community, I invite you to

keep reading and to visit us at www.honeywell-metropolisworks.com.

Sincerely,

Jim Pritchett

Honeywell has demonstrated its

commitment to Metropolis by investing

$177 million over the past 10 years in

capital improvements, including more than

$50 million in safety projects. Honeywell

operates under the principles of the American

Chemistry Council’s Responsible Care®

program, the foundation of health, safety

and environmental excellence in our industry.

Honeywell is the recipient of the 2009

Responsible Care Leadership Award for a

medium-sized company in recognition of its

outstanding leadership under the chemistry

industry’s environmental, health, safety

and security performance initiative.

Employees receive extensive training when

they join Metropolis Works and throughout

their careers, and safety is inculcated into

all our processes. As with all Honeywell

locations, Metropolis Works strives for the

goal of operating with zero injuries, zero

environmental incidents and zero regulatory

non-compliances.

We adhere to rigorous government and

chemical-industry standards and

guidelines, and we have developed an

extensive environmental program that

focuses on prevention.

We have developed a comprehensive

Environmental Improvement Plan to

guide our efforts and drive continuous

improvement. We also maintain a Resource

Conservation and Recovery facility, and our

enhanced waste-tracking process helps

ensure a quick response in the event of an

environmental incident.

Our Safety CultureMetropolis Works operates safely and securely under a license from the U.S. Nuclear

Regulatory Commission (NRC). We meet or exceed all NRC requirements and participate

in regular public reviews where the community can learn about the site and ask questions.

Enabling a Clean and Safe Energy FutureNuclear power can generate enormous amounts of

energy for a growing global population without air

pollution and with much lower greenhouse gas emissions

than fossil fuels. Our mission at Metropolis Works is to

enable this clean and safe power source through the

conversion of uranium ore into uranium hexafluoride

(UF6), an essential compound used to produce enriched

uranium for use as fuel in nuclear power plants.

Metropolis Works operates under a license from the

U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and is

accountable to the NRC for everything from the way

we train our people to the way we run all our uranium-

related processes. Uranium ore is shipped to our facility

in special containers approved by the U.S. Department of

Transportation to ensure safety and security. Honeywell

technicians test and verify the ore concentrates before

the conversion process begins. Using Honeywell’s

proprietary distillation process, the final liquid compound

is more than 99.99 percent pure.

Preparing to Withstand a Catastrophe

Honeywell has completed $40 million in upgrades at

Metropolis Works.

In the wake of the Fukushima disaster in Japan, the

U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) conducted

a comprehensive assessment of all U.S. nuclear-related

facilities. Even prior to that assessment, Honeywell

had initiated an Integrated Safety Analysis as part of

its licensing process and had identified upgrades to

enable the facility to withstand a major seismic event

or tornado. After consultation with the NRC,

Honeywell made $40 million in upgrades to

the facility to allow us to continue to serve our

customers and preserve hundreds of good jobs in

the Metropolis area. At the same time, Honeywell

agreed to extend a shutdown of its operations

until this important work was completed.

Investing in Our Community

The site participates in a number of industrial organizations, local

government activities and community emergency response drills.

Each quarter, we host a Community Advisory Panel, a group of

nearby businesses and residents that meet to discuss topics of

interest concerning the plant.

In 2011, our facility donated $170,000 worth of emergency sirens

to three Massac County communities (Metropolis, Joppa and

Brookport), giving emergency personnel another way to warn

residents about weather situations such as tornados or events that

require mass emergency notification. The sirens replaced an older

emergency system, also donated by Honeywell in the 1980s.

Also in 2011, Honeywell donated an electronic fire/emergency

pre-planning software system and computers, valued at more than

$10,000, to both the Massac County and Metropolis Fire Departments.

In 2013, following a tornado in nearby Brookport, Ill., Honeywell

donated $10,000 to sponsor a special hazardous waste collection

program to aid in the cleanup of that city.

Each year during National Fire Prevention Month, Honeywell outfits

local firefighters with top-of-the-line personal protective equipment.

Since 2011, Honeywell has donated $15,000 in equipment to local

Massac County first responders.

The Metropolis plant’s emergency response teams frequently

participate with local police, fire, rescue and other emergency services

in drills designed to test and improve our emergency planning.

Honeywell and its employees are part of the fabric of the Metropolis community.
